I don't know what it is about "classic literature" but unless it's Charles Dickens or F.Scott.Fitzgerald then I can't get on with it.
I read this before in High School and I remember enjoying it slightly then that seems to have changed upon re-reading it.

What an absolutely fantastic book! I honestly didn’t expect to like it this much, especially considering that it’s a classic. This book did everything for me—from the characters and writing style to the entire plot line, I was thoroughly impressed.
Brontë has a beautiful, elegant writing style that flows really nicely. I found myself constantly wanting to read more of it. The audibook that I listened to was narrated by Flo Gibson, who did an amazing job at conveying the emotion in each of the character’s voices.
The age gap made me uncomfortable at the beginning, but I got used to it the further I read. I loved all of the interactions between Mr. Rochester and Jane, especially when he dressed up as a fortune teller! I genuinely have no criticisms for this book, which is extremely rare. I enjoyed every single aspect of this book, and I would even reconsider re-reading it sometime in the future.

I honestly didn't believe I'd like Jane Eyre.
I highly dislike Austen's works so I thought Jane Eyre would fall in the same category. (Now that I think about it, I disliked Austen years ago. Maybe now my view might change...) Anyway.
Jane turned out to be a lovely character ! I immediately fell for her, her qualities, her flaws, her passion. I did sometimes thought her a bit naive but then I thought "Come on, she's in love ! Of course she'll be a bit naive !!!"
My favorite choices of Jane are :when she realizes she may have been too harsh to her aunt and decided to visit her despite the way she was treated back when she was a child, her refusal to marry Mr Rochester when she finds out he's already married, her choice to share her money with her cousins, her refusal to marry St John !!! That felt GOOD.
I didn't give it 5 stars because of a few things that bugged me. Jane is of course the focus of the novel. But I felt like she was the sole focus. I mean, characters wise, I didn't get attached to anyone else because I felt like they weren't developped enough. Even Mr Rochester and St John. I actually dislike both of them haha but also feel like I didn't get enough material to judge them.
Now plot wise, I found the story quite exciting except forthe moment right after Jane found out the truth about Mr Rochester's marriage. I don't know why but it took me weeks to get past this...
To conclude, it's a classic that I found much easier to read than I thought with a very interesting character and a plot which keeps us in suspense !

I'm going to be completely honest with you when I tell you that I didn't actually finish this. I have the worst relationship with classics, and I really want to love them, but I just don't. I really tried my best, but after 2 months and 3/4 of the book, I just got bored so I looked up the summary. I didn't like what I read, so I decided to put this one down. Maybe I'll try again in a few months/years, but I'm not sure.
Also, I really really don't like Mr. Rochester.

I'm so bad at updating these things lol
It's been almost a week since I finished Jane Eyre so yeah. I really enjoyed this classic, I liked how Charlotte took the gothic romance and made it her own, how she played around with the idea of beauty and how beauty used to govern (some may say still does) society and how we see and judge other people.
All in all if you're looking for a classic I definitely recommend Jane Eyre!
(maybe RTC)

MY GOD next time we do a "who knows __ best" and they ask what's vysh's favourite book - the answer is Jane Eyre. The entire time I was almost sad that I was getting through it because I wanted to read it forever. It's an everything book - every time you're going through it or having a crisis there's a Jane Eyre moment for you. I am so so tempted to immediately start reading it again.
I was pleasantly surprised by how well a story about social class and match making held my attention. I was reluctant to pick it up and then pleased I had. For those that just aren't called by classics, I think the audiobook is the best option and I will continue to try and read a classic a month.
me, as an 8 year old who was Definitely Way Too Young to be reading this:
so jane eeyore is about this old woman called jane who becomes the private tutor of this other young girl and then falls in love with that girl's creepy uncle (?) and they decided to get married but then some lawyer dude says they can't because the uncle forgot that he was married to his arsonist upstairs neighbour who keeps trying to murder them. so jane runs away and nearly gets married to her cousin (ew) but then the ghost of the uncle haunts her and she goes back to marry the uncle. i think the cousin migrated to india, which honestly sounds super fun (except for the cousin marrying thing) so i don't know why jane didn't go.
me, as an 18 year old rereading it for the first time: oh
