I've never thought Aquaman was particularly lame. To be fair, I've never read anything with him or really had any introduction to him at all except for various things that I heard. One was how much he was ridiculed (i.e. the way The Big Bang theory treats him, for one), but underneath all that I've always had a thought of him as being this awesome super-powered being who lives underwater (which is basically what he is in the New 52). Add that to the casting of Jason Momoa, and I've been excited for that movie ever since, even though I still knew next to nothing about the character except for random feelings that had absolutely no basis.

Well, Aquaman is awesome. Even moreso than I thought he would be. I loved the main villains of this (very Lovecraftian, which is never a bad thing), and it really did a great job of making a very un-respected hero into someone incredibly cool. I suppose one nitpick would be that there was a little more telling than showing I would've liked (especially in the "Aquaman is cool" department), but overall it was really enjoyable and he did have great moments. This may just be my favorite New 52 title after Scott Snyder's Batman that I've read so far (which granted, I haven't read all that many titles, but Aquaman being able to hold his own against the utterly amazing Batman run of Snyder is really saying something).

I'm so glad that my feelings of Aquaman being low-key awesome were justified, and I can't wait to read more.

This was a good introduction to Aquaman for me. The premise is that Aquaman gave up the position as king of Atlantis to protect humans from threats from the sea. I liked that the people he wants to protect have no respect or understanding of him. Feels like a good place to start with a new series when everything I've heard makes him seem like a joke. This might have been a little overdone though.

Part 1 introduces Aquaman and begins to hint at the creatures featured on the cover. I don't think they developed meaningfully, but they are a tool to bring in other antagonists. There is a bit of background on the hero too. The series has room to develop and could be quite good.

I just struggled to finish Scott Lobdell's take on Teen Titans so I don't know if it was in the aftermath of it all that I found this to be great. Arthur's always been a favourite of mine, I'm really happy with what Geoff Johns has done with the character. And huge props to Ivan Reis and Joe Prado. Seriously, underrated.

I think they were trying to redeem Aquaman and make him cool instead of the butt end of every joke. But the entire comic was littered with the common jokes against Aquaman. It didn't really help the problem.

My biggest disappointments were that the plot lacked depth and Aquaman (who is largely unexplained) didn't get much backstory to explain his superheroness.

Beautifully drawn, interesting story. Picked this up because I enjoyed this scene in the Aquaman movie but now I really want to read the rest of the issues.

I felt like this story really showed me something about the characters of Aquaman and Mera (who I knew almost nothing about) -- which really drew me in to the story.

I didn't know a lot about Aquaman going into this, besides the fact that there's been a lot of jokes made at his expense, and that he had one of the two marriages that survived the New 52 reboot. Now that I've read this volume though, I definitely want to learn more.

This book deals with the whole "Aquaman is a joke" thing is way that is very meta - maybe a bit too much so, but hopefully things will get toned down in later issues. The book does do a lot to establish Arthur's backstory, and comes up with a really freaky threat. Mera also is pretty awesome, and gets to shine in her own story at the end of the volume.

All and all, this is a very fun book and it sets up a very interesting mystery at the end, leaving me eager to check out volume 2.

This was surprisingly awesome. Funny but creepy, and I love Aquaman and Mera.
