This was really good. I love all the shifter stuff and magic but I wish there would have been a bit more focus on Rocky and Cade. I felt like they were almost a side story to the pack attacks and the Simon/Gray issue.

This time we focus on Rock and Cade, but we also still have Gray and Simon's POV too. We learn why Rocky is truly in the pack and learn that he is an omega wolf. He was in a bad place and I wanted to hurt that arsehole alpha of his. He didn't see Rocky's true worth and my heart broke for him.

There is a war raging on the sidelines and it ends in a big fight at the end. We learn more about the Demon stalking their pack and see some more of Simon's powers. We got a new pack member; a lion cub.

The fight leaves many of the pack hurt, but it also shows us one of Simon's new powers. The final showdown is in the next book and is a great end to the series.

I really like the overall story here with the pack, the demon and Simon/Cormac entering that world.

Additionally, Macy Blake can write some of the best book-kids ever. I thought it couldn't get better than Garon, and then enters Riley. (They do not take the cake from the kids from [b:Sweet Nothings|41953790|Sweet Nothings (The Chosen One, #0.5)|Macy Blake|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1537475739l/41953790._SY75_.jpg|65460325], though, as they are some of the best book-kids I've ever read.)

However, I never got into the Cade/Rocky pairing. I think it was because a lot of the focus of the book is on other aspects of the plot, so they didn't get too much page-time together.

I enjoyed this well enough. There's nothing special about this series and the narrator is "okay". I have a few frustrations - like only have one even remotely developed female character who is a "cardstock mother" type who is everyone's "auntie" (literally or figuratively depends on the character). This was Rocky and Kade's book but it felt more like they were secondary characters to Simon and Gray who are cute I guess, but after an entire book about them before this one I'm kind of tired of them.

It always annoys me when there are 827 gay/bi/pan guys and 0 lesbians/bi/pan women. It's just an absurd the ratio.

I did however like it enough that I'll probably read the next one to see what happens. I'm hoping for a little less Gray/Simon kid fic though.

This book had a few qualities I love finding in m/m romances—a romantic lead that's not cookie-cutter white (not one of the main couple, but still a main character), a mixing up the standard sex roles (letting the little guy top), etc. And I honestly found the writing less stiff and off-putting than in book one, though I still think names were used too often in dialogue. So, for the right reader this will probably be a real winner.

However, despite involving werewolves, mages and vampires it still felt very, very much like the main focus of the book was domesticity. A LOT of time is spent watching Simon marvel at how wonderful it is to suddenly find himself part of a family, or how much he now loves Gray, or what it feels like to suddenly realise he's a stepfather, etc. Which is fine, of course, but not what I would have expected from the synopsis.

Further, and even more irritating, Cade and Rocky, who I thought the book would be about, are mere side characters and their romance is little more than a distraction. I felt the same way about the 'danger to the pack' subplot. It was barely hinted at and overcome easily. Again, the main plot was happy homemaking. And unfortunately I'm just not into that.

I really love the world created in this series. Great paranormal story. And I love the main characters. The story is about a new couple, Cade and Rocky. But it also continues the story of Gray and Simon.

This book is a continuation from book one and as such the books need to be read in order in order to fully understand what is happening.

This book focuses on Cade and Rocky, the werewolves that the “body magic” refers to primarily but it just as much about Simon and his continuing to learn his powers and his and Gray’s mate bond. There is a lot going on in this book as we discover more enemies for the pack and old threats reappear.

For the most part the storyline is suspenseful and keeps the reader engaged though there were a few points where it lagged or became repetitive. I’m looking forward to book three which it appears will center on Cormac.
