The fact that Karen Rose's books are always so formulaic usually never bothered me as much as it did with this one. Watch Your Book was overlong and I thought the suspense and black and white good guys vs. bad guys aspect was incredibly overdone. I just... intensely dislike that her books tend to follow the exact same structure. Beautiful, feisty, self-confident career-driven woman, with a dark and broken past, meets brooding, flawless, strong, usually wealthy, successful man, also with a dark past. They love each other, they hate each other, she manages to get kidnapped at the end, or else threatened by the killer, there are always some dogs involved (seriously, the poodles, the bassett, the retrievers, the rottweiler, etc). They then get their happy ending, end up married with children and they lived happily ever after.

I just wish there could be some change, some more diverse characters and relationships. Like remaining unmarried, maybe lgbt couples, anything different really. Speaking if lgbt, the whole "cocksucker" jib in the book really bothered me. Not only was it childish and unprofessional, but also incredibly unfunny... and I found it slightly homophobic as well. It just got really annoying after a while. That is not to say that Rose's books aren't good. I've enjoyed many of them. I've often loved the suspense and brutality, as well as the characters from previous books being interwoven... But Watch Your Back simply disappointed me.

I enjoyed this book more than Karen Rose's last one (Did You Miss Me?) but I feel that her books are longer with less substance. The length of this book took a lot of the tension out of it for me, I felt that a LOT of Stevie's arguments could have been cut as there's only so many times I could willing read her starting fights over literally nothing. However I liked the plot and characters overall and if you liked her other books then chances are you will like this one.

Decent read... Didn't disappoint

During most of this book Stevie annoyed the crap out of me. I felt she played the victim role well and was very selfish. I loved Clay but felt him waiting for her for 2 years wasn't very realistic but hey people say love conquers all

Ah! This is the book I have wanted to read ever since I read Monster In The Closet – yes, I know I have read her books out of order; but every single one of them are standalone and can be read without spoilers (if you don’t count their HEAs!)

Steve Mazzetti had my sympathy ever since I found out that she lost her husband and her son in a robbery gone wrong and I have loved Clay Manyard; because I got to know him as a father in Monster in The closet – but I have also known them individually; I have to be honest their start to the journey to forever never impressed me.

Clay is a good man – and it struck me wrong that Stevie never wanted to see that – all around people said that she was a good woman and a good cop and an amazing mother and she was, really; but the way she treated Clay just struck me wrong!

And with all these apprehensions in my mind, I started this book – and it threw me a curve and i had a multitude of feelings to sift through – all the while trying to understand who could have this manipulative enough to actually orchestrate such a complex weave of circumstances!

But I enjoyed every second of it; for it gave me time to enjoy the angsty journey of Clay and Stevie to their HEA – I just hope that Cordelia gets her own HEA one day!

Great read but Stevie really drove me crazy at times! It was great to get Clay’s story finally, he first appeared in Nothing To Fear. He still has unfinished business to resolve, can’t wait! And as per usual Rose leaves a trail of dead bodies in her wake, the twists are numerous and the romance steamy. My binge continues, on to book 16.. I’m very attached to these characters and will seriously miss them when I’m all caught up!

I can't review this book without putting personal stuff about me in it. Sorry.

My mom died two months ago. I didn't expect the grief to be the way it has been. I didn't expect that I wouldn't be able to read--one of the things that has always helped me in the past. At first I couldn't focus on a book and then I would start a new book and want to talk about it with mom and have to put it down. This is the first book I have finished since mom died. I'm not quite sure why. Karen Rose is an author I like, but not one I'd say I love.

I picked up the book at random and started it. I have read Ms. Rose's other books so the characters were familiar to me. They'd been in other books and I got into the story. When I tried to put it down, I was wondering what was happening. Before I knew it I was turning off the TV and immersing myself in the story. I just finished it. I feel more myself than I have in over two months. I recommend this book to anyone who likes romantic suspense--but with a caveat. If this is the first Karen Rose book you have--put it down. Go to the library and get some of her earlier books so you really know these characters.
