This book definitely surpassed my expectations for being the second in this series.
While it does start off with some slow pacing that quickly picks up in the second half. Even when it was a little slow every decision felt important and influential to the plot in some way. This book did a great job at getting me to connect and care about new characters. The twists while could be predicted sometimes still caught me off-guard.
This book made me happy but also cry. It forced me to rethink what I thought about the love interest. But I’m glad to see some changes in vivi’s character. We not only see her become more mature but also see her take the lead more.
Overall this book was great and I definitely recommend this series to everyone that is interested in fantasy with a subplot of romance.

Surviving Verdance looks easy compared to what the Isle of Ember has in store.
Immediately upon landing on Ember the crew of the Zephyrus meets the Drakin people (think dragon plus humans) and are immediately imprisoned for the crimes of their country a generation ago. Vivienne has to figure out how to gain the trust of the monarchy, control her newly found power, and protect Ember from its own rising political tension. Not to mention it getting harder and harder to keep her eyes on her former fiancé and away from the ship's commander.
Anderson writes longing almost unlike anyone else. If you are looking for slow burn with barely any spice, absolutely look no further. Isle of Ember has the kind of writing that flows incredibly well and is easy to read and stay invested.
While the Enchanted Isles book have a few side characters that add to the diversity of the books, between the main character and her three love interests I would have appreciated at least one person of color. Unfortunately, I also had a few issues with the plot. The crew is captured almost immediately and the officers (aka the main characters) are allowed to live as guests but the officers don't seem that concerned that their captain and crew are being held as ransom. If it were me I would be panicking trying to figure out how to free everyone. There were a few other minor issues I had, but I'll leave them out since they're spoilers. No matter the issues I had with this book, it was still an extremely fun read.
Thank you Alycia E. Anderson for the advanced copy.

What a series this is shaping up to be. Looking for a book that’ll make you laugh and cry within minutes of each other? This is the one for you.
Vivienne, Owen, Lewis, and Cirrus embark on a new adventure on the Isle of Ember and it’s a true test of loyalty, honor, strength, and tradition. The new members of the cast of characters add depth to our faves and even leave you subbing by the end. I love this series and I can’t wait for the next book.

I enjoy the first book, but I loved this book. I devoured every word of it and can’t wait to read more. It was fun and exciting and utterly devastating all at the same time. It was hard to read parts through the tears, but I’m so excited for everyone else to get to read it.
So grateful to have been given the opportunity to read this as an ARC.

✨ I received an ARC e-copy of this book for an honest, spoiler free review.
Release date: 9/2/24✨
Wow. Just. I really liked the first book in this series, The Enchanted Isles. This second installment surpassed even that.
This series so far has really abandoned the usual cliche tropes we have been seeing in romantasy as well. It is fantasy forward, with a romance subplot but there's really no predictable path. The story is about discovery, about people and culture. It's about how war changes the people and the very land and ritual and religion can be both a balm and weapon. It's about sins of a nation and atonement. While told from a personal struggle with self-worth and self-doubt. Where the greatest powers are knowledge and compassion. As well as magic and swords.
The story telling evolved, the prose were so elegant and powerful. The descriptions of clothes, buildings, land, were so vivid and atmospheric. The dialog was done so well, adding to the characters as well as the scene as a whole. So many laugh out loud moments, or gasping on shock... and tears. I haven't cried because of a book in a long time and this book has me sobbing.
There are a lot of characters in this book, and each one is kept unique, bringing something different to the story, their strengths and weaknesses to move development forward. You fall in love with each one, for everything they are and care how they feel. I found myself wondering what other characters that weren't the scene were doing just because I missed them. (Owen, I missed Owen.🥰)
If you're looking for a new epic fantasy to start with a soft, intelligent FMC who fights with knowledge and by solving puzzles, if you want fun banter and vivid, complex side characters who push the story forward in their own unique ways, and if you can endure not having the 3rd book literally RIGHT NOW! Then try The Enchanted Isles series.

If I could give this book 6 stars, I would. It absolutely shook me to my core. I cried, ugly cried, like 3 or 4 times while reading this book.
This is Book 2 of The Enchanted Isle series, so beware I am going to be putting some minor spoilers.😅
The new installment of the series, picks up right where we left off, but on a new island; bringing fresh challenges, fire breathing settings, and unforgettable new characters. The new additions to the cast are so well written that when the emotional moments hit, they hit hard. I especially loved the new love story interactions and how the magic felt even more developed, blending perfectly with the atmosphere of the island.
Nova, Kalon, and Demetri were my all time favorite newbies! I really want to see a Lewis and Nova love story develop. And ohhhh my Owen. Hands down Owen has my heart.
There were so many lines I highlighted because it’s clear this book is as meaningful to the author as it is to the reader. The banter was perfection. The slow burn is torturously good. The challenges they face were handled like a crew should, together. Vivienne’s character development has improved so much.
I honestly felt broken after finishing it, like I need to either lie down or drown my emotions in a gallon of ice cream. I can’t decide 🤣🥹
I’m beyond grateful to the author for this early copy. Thank you so so much.
Book 3 can’t come fast enough. Vivienne, my girl, go get them!!
Isle of Ember will go down as one of the best reads I have read of this year. ❤️

*** This is Book two in a ongoing series and will contain spoilers for book one***
Isle of Ember is book two in The Enchanted Isles series! We pick up right where we left off in book one. Viv and the crew have set sail for the Isle of Ember after the events in Verdance on in hopes of finding the second tribute they need to break Fendwyr's curse.
This is a amazing follow up, the book is perfectly paced and flowed easily from book one.
Viv's heart is still very conflicted with her feelings in matters of the heart. In the end of book one we saw she chose to be with Cirrus but in book two we get more of that conflict. She continues to second guess if she made the correct choice to rekindle their relationship. She is especially worried about Cirrus's family obligations after returning and what that would mean for them in the future. I still very much really dislike Cirrus as he is still very possive and I am on team Owen, IYKYK. Our Lewis does have his own emotional rollercoaster and is not forgotten.
I did find the switch in POV sometimes confusing but it wasn't distracting enough to be a issue. We also get several new characters from the Isle of Ember in this book and they are welcomed additions and we still have our beloved family crew. The banter is still amazing and will have you laughing.
This will be a on going series so there is a cliff hanger and you will have a emotional rollercoaster especially at the end, so if you are crier keep your tissues handy.
Overall I absolutely enjoyed this book and I am so excited for book 3.
