This one really wasn't for me unfortunately.

This is the story of Essie and Nate. Best friend of the bride and brother of the groom, respectively. We met the bride and groom, Rix and Tristan, in the first book in this series.

I'm usually a fan of Helena Hunting's work. But this felt like a novella padded out with lots of wedding stuff.

The book centres around the wedding for a good three quarters of the story. And I found it a bit claustrophobic.

The rest of this series has been great and hints are certainly dropped about the next couple to get their HEA, which looks like it could be a doozy!

Thank you Helena Hunting for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

I Could Be Yours is another incredibly funny, sweet, steamy, spicy, heartwarming romance by Helena Hunting. Helena just consistently knocks it out of the park with main characters that are strong, relatable, flawed, and extremely lovable.

Trix and Tristan (from If You Hate Me in the Toronto Terror series) are getting married and Trix’s best friend Essie, and Tristan’s brother, Nate, are the maid of honor and best man, respectively. 6 years ago when they were 19 they shared a hot kiss and Nate said he’d call Essie but then ghosted her.  Now they’re forced together as they help with all of the wedding festivities.

I absolutely loved the forced proximity and that the chemistry between these two is there from the very start. I also really appreciated that even though Nate’s ghosting is mentioned and addressed, it’s not a significant roadblock that takes a long time for them to get past. I loved that Essie felt comfortable in her own skin, and in what she wanted, and was able to communicate that in most situations to Nate. She also called Nate out on his grumpiness and didn’t let him sit in it too long. She wasn’t shy about her sexuality and went after what she wanted, which was hot. For Nate’s part,  his grumpiness and resistance to relationships made sense with his background, and his grumpiness just made his sweet and caring moments with Essie even more satisfying. The way everything unfolds with the wedding and family dynamics makes Nate’s character growth feel realistic and earned.

We also get scenes with all of the main (and some secondary) Toronto Terror and Tilton U characters, which was a supreme delight. The call backs to those books and Easter eggs for future books were perfectly incorporated and so fun for anyone who has read those books. If you haven’t read those other books, this is still a standalone and you can absolutely go straight to this one (though I recommend the others!).

I’m so grateful to be a part of Helena’s Badass Babe Brigade and to have received an ALC and e-ARC of this delightful book! Teddy Hamilton and Savanah Peachwood delivered excellent performances, as always. There’s a scene where Essie asks Nate to explain some science concept while they’re getting frisky, and Teddy Hamilton’s narration of the chemical composition of steel was actually so hot, lol.  It was the perfect example of “This narrator could read the phone book and I’d be hooked.” 😂 And Savannah felt perfectly cast for Essie, where Essie’s strength, sass, and vulnerability came out so well through Savannah’s performance.

Please add this to your TBR for the perfect summer romance.

Thank you to Helena Hunting and to NetGalley for the ALC. I wrote this review voluntarily and all opinions are my own.

Helena knows how to write a sweet love story!

I loved Essie and Nate’s story… and one we’ve been waiting for for a long time.

If you love grumpy x sunshine and second chance romances- pick this up!

The narrators were a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!

Thank you to Helena for this ALC!

This was such a fun book to read! One moment it’s cute and swoony, the next it’s so frustrating I wanted to scream “JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER!” 🤣 But honestly, I loved reading their messy progress. The way they didn’t communicate kept me completely hooked.

Essie Lovelock is determined to be the best maid of honor ever—even if it means working closely with Nate Stiles, the best man who ghosted her after the best kiss of her life six years ago. He’s serious and grumpy, she’s sworn off fairytales, and now they’re forced together for wedding planning, bachelorette parties, and even salsa lessons. This is a standalone, grumpy/sunshine, second-chance romance full of unresolved tension and slow-burning sparks.

My heart really went out to Nate and all his baggage. And I’m absolutely in love with Essie. On a personal note, I have such a soft spot for her because I see so much of myself in Essie. This story hit me right in the core. And that last plot twist? It shattered me to pieces. It HURT—I legit cried. 🥲

The tension between Essie and Nate was chef’s kiss. Playful, flirty Essie paired with grumpy Nate was so fun to watch—and it exploded in the bedroom. 🤣 Their chemistry was perfect, and all those snuggly moments just warmed my heart.

I also loved their group of friends. The whole Toronto crew felt so warm, fun, and real. If you have time, I really recommend reading the entire Toronto series from the start—but all the books work perfectly as standalones. I seriously can’t wait for the next one!

I absolutely loved this one! So much so it was a one sit read/listen for me! You cannot go wrong with this author! I have loved every book I’ve read by her and this one is no exception! If you want a book that will hook you in right away and not make you aware of the time passing by it’s this one!! You will laugh and feel all the feels. I loved Essie and Nate so much! I say this all the time and mean it! This is one of those books that the only thing that will disappoint you is that it had to end! I could have read so much more about these two!

If you are an audio lover this audio will definitely enhance your reading experience! This one was done in duet and the narrators were so good! Definitely made the book come to life and play out like a movie in my mind!

If you’re in the mood for a dislike to love, grumpy sunshine, second chance, opposites attract, sports romance look no further! This one is a definite must read!

I loved Essie so much in this book. Not only because she is an amazing friend to Rix, but because she so unapologetically herself. Nate had a lot of self reflection and growing to do, which leads to character development, which I love. Much like Tristan he had a lot of self reflection to do before he could successfully have a relationship. It definitely made me wonder how he had a serious relationship at all previously.
I really liked the whole they kissed right after high school and then only saw each other after Rix and Tristan got together.

This is definitely a summer read. Lots of summer vibes throughout the whole book. There is definitely spice, though no fixation on a certain fruit (though it’s not an official Terror book, and the cucumber is of coursed mentioned). I’m very excited for Dread and Connor book!

I read an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

I Could Be Yours is the newest book by, one of my favorite authors, Helena Hunting, and I was obsessed with this story. We have gotten Essie as an important side character in the first Toronto Terrors book If You Hate Me as she is the female lead, Rix’s best friend and in Chase Lovett Wants Me as FL Camie’s older sister. Nate on the other hard, while the brother of the male lead of If You Hate Me, Tristan we haven't had as much on page time. He's been around but nothing too in depth, in the few scenes with both Essie and Nate you can sense major chemistry between them but also a history of some sort.
From the start of the book there still the chemistry that we sow in previous books, but now that they are working together on Rix and Tristan's wedding a rivalry begins to form. Mostly its on Nate's part for his own reasons but Essie definitely participates. But from that forced proximity from working together the tension between them grows and grows.
I really enjoyed Essie and Nate's book and I can’t wait to get more of the Toronto Terrors and any books in Helena Huntings’ world.
