My review echos Joel’s review referencing cake, but I finished it so I guess that gets a 2-star

The Night Circus is a book that is more imaginative than anything I've read in a long time. It is magical and whimsical as well as dark and disturbing. It is dreamlike and fantastic with haunted undertones. It is enchanting and charming and dangerous.

The story is told in alternating points of view and times, in the third person present tense. The scattered scenes work together seamlessly to add both knowledge and mystery, without causing the sort of confusion that makes a story difficult to follow. The pacing is perfect. The setting is grandiose. The prose is lush, magical, and dreamlike. The imagery of the circus is delightful, engrossing, and easily imagined by the descriptions. The world building surrounding the circus is incredibly well done, hitting on all of the senses.

While The Night Circus follows several characters who are involved with the circus, the story centers around Celia and Marco, two magicians pitted against each other in a mysterious duel. The cast of characters surrounding Le Cirque des Rêves is as unique as the circus itself. They range from architects and clock makers to dreamers and ballerinas to illusionists and contortionists. The circus is the catalyst for the relationships that develop between them. It connects them. And by the time that I was finished with the book, I had become connected to them as well.

The Night Circus had me engrossed in the story and characters, and especially the setting. I read it slowly, not because I was disinterested, but because I did not want it to end. I savored every word, and would recommend it to anyone, particularly those who find appealing the idea of crawling into this dream of a circus for a little while.

“Love is fickle and fleeting. It is rarely a solid foundation for decisions to be made upon, in any game.”

Reading this book was like stepping into the dream realm. Whimsical yet so mysterious. Erin encapsulates the imagery in the most beautiful manner.
Her imagination and words weaved together is what truly constructs this book. Don't go into it looking for action and intensity or even a grand plot but something more magical and heart-felt.

The characters were a delight to read yet all portrayed themselves as a mystery in ways.
It was also interesting to see how the game progressed and pieces were moved, I will admit I was scared to see how'd the book would conclude but it wrapped up perfectly.

However as much as I do adore the book, I found myself not completely connected to the romance. Don't get me wrong, Celia and Marco are wonderful..but their romance seemed so sudden to me. It seemed as if there wasn't much build up and moments between them before one random night Marco decides to declare his unconditional love
And Isobel was treated quite unfairly..i do wish the best for her

but nonetheless I did love them

(This book isn't exactly a 5 star but it feels wrong to give it anything less..)

The heart of the tale and the ideas behind it are simple. Time has altered and condensed their nuances, made them more than story, greater than the sums of their parts. But that requires time. The truest tales require time and familiarity to become what they are.”

This is a whimsical, dark, and delightful story of obligation, love, abd community with the creative and magical Night Circus as the backdrop.

I think I read a different book then everyone else. I'm honestly sad because this has been sitting on my shelf for so long and after finally getting around to this very popular book I was super disappointed. The beginning had my interest for a little bit but then it quickly went down hill. I was bored for 90 percent of this book. Nothing really happens with the plot and while I was hoping the characters would help me still enjoy it they ended up being boring as well. The main relationship that is mentioned in the synopsis was barely there and had very little chemistry. Honestly the synopsis felt like a different book than what I ended up reading. I know so many like the writing in this but I don't enjoy flowery writing just for the sake of it I need the plot and characters to be as good as well. It was mostly descriptions. So many descriptions. It was honestly a chore to get through this. I know so very many absolutely love this book so maybe it just wasn't for me.

An absolute gem. No words can even describe the experience this book took me on. It’s ineffable.
I felt the atmosphere. I smelled the scent, I heard the sounds, …. All my senses were immersed.

I know that there will be nothing like it ever again.
