A rich and heartfelt journey from boyhood to maturity. The many, many characters are memorable (if mostly one-dimensional), and you can’t help but feel emotionally invested in each phase of David’s life. Despite its length, this is a satisfying book, worthy of its status as a classic.

What a ride of a novel. Reading this feels like one of those very long days. The ones that you remember what you did that morning, but it feels like it was yesterday, or two days ago? As Dickens wrapped all of his storylines at the end I kept thinking, oh, yeah! That happened in this novel! Especially when he would bring up Mr. Murdstone aka pure evil.
The middle dragged a bit but Dickens’ writing, as usual, is so beautiful and surprising and funny that I can’t blame him for going on and on. Things picked up again around 3/4 of the way and the ending was totally satisfying.
I love his unique characters and the narrator of this audiobook did a fantastic job with all the voices and accents. I think my favorite part might have been the donkeys.

It has only taken me 50 years to get around to reading David Copperfield – my copy of the book was a good-work prize that I received at school in 1970 and for half a century it sat on my bookshelf unloved and unread. But what a wonderful, sad, happy, funny and descriptive story story it is. I should have read it years ago. I'm laughing out loud in one chapter and holding back the tears in the next. Brilliant!
While it is a very delightful read, it could use some editing. There were chapters thrown in more for the purpose of the author to give a personal viewpoint than to advance the story (I'm looking at you, prison chapter). 3 other things that bothered me were: 1) David's inability to denounce Steer forth after running away with Emily; 2) how Ham dies rescuing a dead Steerforth (so convenient); and 3) why it wasn't made a bigger deal that David almost pulled a Murdstone on Dora. Otherwise, it's really a fun book about a poor child that grows into a naive man that is able to find true happiness in the most purely Victorian English way.

It’s was a good story for a journey of somone who did not know if he was the hero of this tale or not.
"I have infected everything I touched. I have brought misery on what I dearly love, I know - You know! I thought it possible that I could truly love one creature in the world, and not love the rest; I thought it possible that I could truly mourn for one creature gone out of the world, and not have some part in the grief of all who mourned. Thus the lessons of my life have been peverted! I have preyed on my own morbid coward heart, and it has preyed on me. Sordid in my grief, sordid in my love, sordid in my miserable escape from the darker side of both, oh see the ruin I am, and hate me, shun me!"
