Liked this one much better than the first in the series Rainshadow Road.
The characters were more developed and intense, their affection for each other so much more real and endearing.
I loved Alex, the tortured hero is always my weakness and he was a great character. He had such heart and vulnerability.
Zoe was his perfect match, patient and kind, accepting and encouraging. They were perfect together and my heart had little pangs at quite a few moments between these two.
Loved this one.
The only thing that didn't make this a 5 star read for me was the ending. It seemed to dramatic and then all of a sudden it was done. Everything tied up in a neat bow. It's a romance afterall so that wasn't a shock, but given the storyline I didn't think it should have been tied off so cleanly and mushy.
I liked the side story of the ghost. It was done in a way that didn't make it seem overly supernatural or cheezy which was a good fit for the story. I figured from the beginning who the ghost was and who he had a connection to, and it wasn't intended as much of a mystery. I like the side story of the ghost and his rediscovery of his lost love. Touching and heartwarming.
Overall a very sweet read.

Flew through this in a day; Kleypas really made me want to keep reading. The supernatural component is a little odd but it works. The pattern of the Nolans finding someone, tentatively getting into a relationship then screwing it up (in the exact same way) gets a little old. The timeline had this story going on simultaneously with Rainshadow Road which felt a little awkward at times. Happily realized that there's a 3rd book in the series. I had thought that Alex would be the last, but we have to see Justine happily settled too.
Loved it! Lisa is very talented. I'm looking forward to the next "Friday Harbor" novel
Another sweet romance from Lisa Kleypas. I really enjoyed reading Alex and Zoe's love story. Alex was the most damaged of the Nolan brothers and I was looking forward to him getting a happy ending.
My 2017 blind date with a book. It was a good one. I got lucky with an author that I know but this was a new one for me. I've never read any of her contemporary romance, but I liked it. Her characters were complicated without being depressing and there was romance but also a lot of depth in her characters. I'd definitely read another in the series.
I bit unusual for Lisa Kleypas. Its not like her to dig into the paranormal and having the ghost there seemed a distraction at times.
I don't understand how Zoe was so patient with Alex when he was such an ahole to her majority of the time, but I guess it was good to see a slightly different type of character. I'm still a fan of the strongminded women though.
Look forward to Kleypas' next Friday Harbour installment which has another touch of paranormal added to it.

I liked this book better this time than the first time I read it. Maybe I understand Alex's bitterness a little more now at this stage of my life
My favorite of the Friday Harbour series. Both Zoe and Alex are great characters, it's a great plot, etc. The only thing I didn't understand was Alex's sudden decision to stop drinking. I understand that it had to be for himself and not Zoe, and that it was obviously a good decision to make, I guess the reasons were clear to him but not me. Anyway, all-in-all a great read :)
Ok so this might be my favorite of the series. I actually really liked the ghost element in this story. Each book in this series has gotten a little more into the paranormal. I didn't like the element much in the last book, but it worked for me in this one. Alex has taken his families history the hard way, he's struggled to connect to anyone and found his life failing down a bottle. He's bitter and angry most of the time. But meeting Zoe has opened up a crack in his wall. Having an instigating ghost trying to figure out his own past as well as push Alex into his future was kinda fun.
This is a bit of a heartbreaking story too as Zoe's dealing with her grandmother's failing health. Zoe's determined to do the best by her grandmother and Alex finds himself drawn in more and more, willing or not. I enjoyed watching him fall in love, reluctantly, until he just couldn't escape the fact that he has feelings.
I really enjoyed this book, ghost elements and all.
