Good series 4.5

I really like this series - it has snark, mystery, an odd sort of romance that may or may not be really happening... and tons of strange things that ARE happening. Fun

This book left me speechless. I don't even know where or how to begin. There's so many things I could mention, but they'd be massive spoilers and so I won't do that. But oh my gosh, we get some answers to some long held questions. And wow, did they blow my mind or what!

There was a ton of humor, as usual. I laughed so hard, so many times, especially about the tie. Just trust me, it's absolutely hilarious. I'm laughing again now just thinking about it. It wasn't all fun and games, though. There were serious moments, twists I didn't see coming, and some shocking revelations.

Despite a slow start, Between Walls ended up being a fantastic read. If you're a fan of urban fantasy, check this series out. Start with book one and you'll be hooked!

3.5 stars, rounded up because I enjoyed finally getting some ANSWERS at the end of the book. I was already Very Suspicious of a few things, and it was satisfying to know I was right.

3 stars for the case for this book - Morgana wants help, and Pet and the Troika look into it. Throughout the case, they meet new characters who, I am sure, are going to be important in the future, but... honestly, the case is a little bit boring.

4 stars for the overarching plot for the series - This book is really about setting up the plot of the series, Pet and heirlings and what's going on Behind and so on. It kind of feels like a pivot point, with the case being less important and the series plot being more important, I suspect that trend is going to continue. Especially since the overall series plot is getting more complicated, as certain plot lines become interconnected and new details emerge.

I was Team JinYeong, now I am Team Zero. I LOVE ZERO AND NEED TO KNOW WHO PET ENDS UP WITH

This book feels somewhat darker than the previous ones. I loved that there was no instant forgiveness or anything from Pet; there was definitely some much-needed character growth going on in this instalment. I did struggle a bit to wrap my head around the investigation/mystery plot but there were enough side plots that kept me hooked that more than made up for it. The reveal about Morgana has me just about dying to finally find out about Pet's truth and what happened in her past - with each book, we get steadily closer to that revelation!

Now its Pet's friend Morgana that needs help, and since Pet is back with her Psychos/Troika and they have a deal Zero has to investigate humans endangered by BehindKin, they're on the case.

It's actually Morgana's online MMO gaming friend Blackpoint who has disappeared. Meanwhile, this book opens with references to Five and 'Zul-- who are the leprechaun and merman from the short stories I haven't read. Luckily, I might have missed some inside jokes, but this books opens with explanations that make it okay I haven't read those yet.

JinYeong's feelings (OMG he actually is reading a stack of romance books!) are blatantly wildly apparent. It's hard to believe, even with Morgana's misdirection about thinking Zero has actual feelings, that our clever Pet hasn't figured it out yet.

Nor that they are still in denial about her heirling status since she's able to call the heirling sword at the start of the book to fend off a troll.

So glad they're dealing with this all by the end of the book, but not really dealing with it if you know what I mean (at least talking about the heirling thing, everyone else is aware of JinYeong's feelings, still not Pet, at least out loud to herself) Although the mystery of Morgana and the kids that live upstairs is solved and Pet confronts her with it. It doesn't go all that well :) At least Daniel is still around to pick up the pieces.

I am now, I suppose, going to have to go back and read those short stories, darnit.

This series is soo adictive!
I read all 6 books in less than 10 days, and yes they are short books but consider that I have a full time job.
I can't wait for the next one!
