There are way too many acronyms in this book that you’re supposed to remember. Also, the ending twist was pretty obvious from the start.

Demetra has done it again. I loved the relationship of the girls. I miss them already. I think I related to Blue most in the story.
Would definitely recommend.

This novel did sisters so well. Sometimes they were frustrating. I dare you to say you read this book and didn't, at one point or many, want to strangle Birdie. But that's sisters for you. The bond between them, in all its frustrating glory, is what makes this book. In comparison, the rest of the plot(which I can't really elaborate on because it's a whole nest of spoilers) is merely okay. This is a YA title so it can be forgiven for treading familiar ground(after all, it's probably many readers' first encounter with what I'd consider to be tired tropes), but to a seasoned reader there isn't going to be much of a twist here. You might want to read it anyway though, just for the characters.

What I really didn't like, though, was that one of the plot elements felt fantastical. I can't explain too much without spoiling, but essentially an otherwise mundane story had what amounted to a pouch of special dust that you sprinkled on things to cause a magical effect. It felt very out of place to me as I was reading.

Important question time! Does the dog and/or bird die? (Minor spoilers ahead!) Two different characters own a pet dog and a pet bird of prey. Both are okay. However, the sisters do live on a homestead and there's discussion of livestock being used for sustenance.

I was provided with an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, so thank you to them and to the publisher!

Real rating: 3.5

The main storyline of Last Girls follows three prepper girls as they live in their community and attend school, ready at any moment for the world to go sideways. This turned out to be a very different novel to what I expected, which isn't a bad thing, but there's less actual survival plot in this then I had anticipated. It does show up especially towards the end, but the book is mostly about the connection between the sisters, the will to survive and what they would do to protect each other, even from members of their own community, than it is about an actual world ending event.

Reading this book made me feel like I needed to have a stockpile, and a bug out bag and a LifeStraw (google them, they're really cool) and I enjoyed getting a look into the mindset of characters in this type of situation, but I never really felt a real connection to most of them and I wasn't a fan of the romance sub plot either as there wasn't much chemistry. The last third of the book is really exciting and fast paced, which I loved, but the rest can be a little slow. There is a twist which I'm not going to spoil here, but it did give the plot an extra flavour of intrigue.

I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in prepper lifestyle on the day to day basis, and to anyone who loves relationships between siblings because on those two aspects it's really good.

This book was not at all what I expected - and I was pleasantly surprised by that. And it's one that I'm finding really hard to rate. Personally, I'm not a fan of doomsday preppers. I don't understand their extreme mindsets and so it was really hard for me to connect with Honey throughout the book. She's also very abrasive and pushes people away, so she didn't make it easy.

Last Girls follows three sisters: Honey, Birdie, and Blue. They live on a compound of preppers and live by a very rigid set of rules. All at once, it seems like those rules go out the window and Honey is left trying to put all the pieces together while protecting her sisters.

This book was like three stories in one and I'll be honest, in the beginning I was a little confused. Especially when it started switching POV's to this Toby person. Over the course of the book, I started putting the pieces together and found myself completely invested in that storyline and was constantly trying to figure out how all the pieces connected. Sadly, I just didn't connect to Honey as much as Toby so for most of the book I was anxiously awaiting Toby's plotline to jump back in.

I will be honest. This book goes in place I was not prepared for. The synopsis hardly gives anything away which I think was a good idea. I went in thinking it was one thing and then suddenly it was much deeper than just preppers. This was my first book by Brodsky but I look forward to more!

Going into this book I wasn't sure if I should expect full cult or if I should expect an actual end of the world, and in the end I did get one of these things and I really enjoyed the story.

I loved Honey as a character, though my favorite was probably Blue, between her falcon and her eloquent and almost eerie observations. The only one I didn't really like was Birdie. I found her very irritating and too willing to put her family in danger for what she wanted. Though some of her actions helped them in the end, most seemed to create more problems.

I loved the twists written into the story, though it took me an embarrassingly long time to put two and two together. It was really interesting to read and finally making the connection was very satisfying, though it took me a while.

My one big complaint was the second pov. Until I finally made the connection, those chapters really confused and frustrated me. I understand the reason they were written that way, with how the book ended, but they were still distracting to read that way. Because of this, I wasn't interested in these chapters, which played a role in my delay in putting the picture together.

I was gifted an eARC copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

** Spoiler Alert**

A tale of sisterhood, survival and lies. I really and truly enjoyed this book. It had twists and turns and kept you on your toes from chapter 1.
Blue, Birdie and Honey are sisters who have prepared for the end of the world their whole lives and who would have known that the end of days prep would have turned out the way it did?
It was a really unique story that had my mind racing trying to figure out what would happen next at every turn of the page.

You manage to fall in love with each sister who are each so unique, artists in their own rights. Honey, the eldest who feels the constant need to protect her sisters, who loves to paint. Birdie, middle sister who has fallen in love with a boy who goes missing and Blue, my favorite sister who is true to her name with her cobalt blue hair who loves to embroider and constantly quirks mysterious omens (which turn out to be all accurate in some way or another).

Of course there has to be a bad guy, there always is. Who plots a nationwide disaster just to prove a point. I felt like this plot line was a bit mhe, honestly it could have been executed better and felt a bit like an afterthought.

This book takes you on a journey of fierce protection, sisterly love and a mother who even though misguided was trying her best to keep her girls shielded and protected from the outside world.
