A weird Austen knock off, that completely lacked Austen's wit and depth of characters. Takes place after their marriage and is supposed to be a mystery.

Language felt inconsistent, like it was trying to match the language of Austen, but not consistently. Related to this, I’ve noticed use of “ton” more in regency set historical fiction, rather than in Austen/contemporary Regency writing.
The plot and Elizabeth’s feelings felt far-fetched: the plot because the supernatural elements felt pasted over top the realistic Austen setting. I think it can be done, I read quite a bit of fantasy historical fiction ([b:Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell|14201|Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell|Susanna Clarke|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1357027589l/14201._SY75_.jpg|3921305] and [b:Shadow of Night|11559200|Shadow of Night (All Souls, #2)|Deborah Harkness|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1320604137l/11559200._SY75_.jpg|16499524] have done it well). Pride and Prejudice isn’t my favorite or best known Austen so I don’t remember a lot of particulars of Elizabeth’s character, aside from liking to read, but some of it felt like it might be out of character.

So this wasn't the most difficult "whodunit" to figure out, but I have to say I enjoyed the book anyway. Bebris stayed true to the way Austen wrote her characters and I was pleased with that. I liked seeing Lizzie and Darcy work together sleuthing. I also liked how she gave a realism to their marriage - she didn't just make them hopelessly in love with each other, there were fights and make-up's that seemed to fit who they were individually and who they were becoming as a couple.

I enjoyed the new characters that Bebris created. Very rich and full of interesting details.

I'll definitely be going out and getting the 2nd in her Mr. and Mrs. Darcy Mystery series.

A mystery is only as good as the reveal at the end, and the reveal was not very good.

This book is absolutely brilliant! Bebris stays true to Austen's beloved characters, mixed with humor, intrigue, and mystery! (and who doesn't want to see Caroline Bingley suffer a little). Can't wait to read the next book in the series!

This book started out with such promise for me. I really liked how she wrote the characters of Lizzy and Darcy. As with Austen, you could see that they were in love, but she left all those scenes private. The part that did not work for me was the supernatural aspect of the plot. I hear that later books in the series don't have this aspect, so I may read more because I like the idea of the Darcys interacting with other characters from the Austen universe. All in all, a light easy read.

I really enjoyed Pride & Prescience. Bebris did a good job, in my opinion, of capturing Regency England and the way that people would speak and think - although there were a couple glaringly obvious problems with some dialogue: a few instances where words from modern-day America were used and that kind of ruined the scene - for me, at least.

Going into it knowing that it was going to be a little bit... unexpected definitely helped with the ending. That's really the only problem I have with it - the ending was a little unbelievable and wrapped things up a little too neatly for my liking. I mean, I knew that certain people couldn't be involved in certain things (and I know I am being vague... you'll have to read it to find out!!), so that narrowed down the detective work to just a couple people.

However, Mr Darcy and Lizzie made adorable newlywed detectives, and I do look forward to reading the second book in the series!! :D I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a good romp through post-Pride & Prejudice Regency England with familiar characters.
