I tend to enjoy a variety of books, including YA titles.
And the idea of a young girl who feels like a fish out of water compared to her one friend and those in her school is the type of story I tend to enjoy.
Overall, this title was okay.
I liked the diary format used.
I could appreciate some of the feeling different from others.
I can feel empathetic of her feeling like love is for losers and that she'd never want to fall in love. Because her untraditional upbringing contributed to her ideas about love and relationships.
Even with all this, I had times where Phoebe's writing was heading to extreme whining. Having both been a teen and having parented teens and worked with them, I get that they make poor decisions and are still rather self-centered. But, Phoebe's character seems to have taken it to an extreme that bothered me a bit.
But, if you are looking for a title that has an LGBT component, then this could be a good option.
I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC of Love is for Losers. āOpinions expressed in this review are completely my own.ā

Tbh the only good thing about this book is the diary-type writing style. I DNF this as it cringed so hard I couldn't carry on

Don't judge a book by it's cover - BUT LOOK AT THIS COVER. IT'S GORGEOUS and I have to admit, it certainly caught my eye and for that I can only be grateful. I've actually found 3 different covers for the book but am only using 2 for my bookstagram picture because . . .well, I'm lazy.
Written as a diary, we meet Phoebe, a 15 year old girl who has decided that love turns people into idiots. Take Polly, for example. Until very recently, she has been Phoebe's best friend, but now she has a boyfriend and now he's all that Polly can talk about.
Phoebe is a great character. She's stroppy, sarcastic but so gloriously honest about things even though at times she really ought to think before speaking . . but she's 15 so give her a break.
Phoebe has reasons for being so prickly and keeping others at arms length which we learn about but also see Phoebe mature a lot and widen her social scene. The supporting characters are all well developed and love them or hate them, they all bring something to the story.
I found the entire book to be refreshing. I applaud the author for including certain subjects and normalising them. At the end of the day, this is the diary of a young girl and the way that she lives her life and I bloody loved it.

This book was pretty delightful. About a fifteen years old girl, Phoebe, who's doctor mother goes on long medical aid sojourns. She is frequently left with her mom's best friend who runs a cancer research charity thrift shop. Phoebe's best friend falls in love and, feeling left behind, Phoebe makes friends with the charity shop volunteers and employees, including Emma, on whom Phoebe may or may not have a crush. Throw in some designer cats and kittens, a lot of snark, and plenty of teenage confusion and this was a fun and easy read.

I really liked this book. I liked the format. The days go by even though there is journal entries for everyday. Reading this book was a breeze and I felt like I was gliding through the words.
Phoebe is such a wonderful character to be in the head of. She is funny and smart. She is also very attuned to her emotions. Miss thing made me teary eyed many times. I cried in the bus twice and had to stop to not embarrass myself. Blech!
There is absolutely no censorship in his book and sex is talked about so openly that it feels weird in my prudish brain. Still, this book manages to be wholesome and sweet. I felt the humor and I felt the loss. I felt the annoyance and I felt the hurt. I really liked this book. I suppose I love this book actually.

āP.S: I canāt believe Iām sixteen.
Turning sixteen was always for other people.
But I suppose so was love.ā
Can I rate this book 27282736 stars, please? I picked it up at Waterstones bc I thought the cover with the kitty looked cute. I never imagined myself reading about a cynical, humourous and pessimistic 15 year old girl who falls head over heels in love with her female co-worker in a charity shop.
āLove Is For Loversā covers so many important topics for teenagers and young adults. Grief, sex, friendship, the relationship with parents and guardians, growing up without a father, stressfull exams and exploring your sexual identity.
This book made me giggle and laugh out loud more often than not and made me teary eyed during the sad parts. Absolutely loved it.
