Thank you NetGalley and Alcove Press for the advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Trixie and Bear wind up being roommates after a chicken retrieval in downtown chicago and a coincidental classified ad. There love for Chick-Chick and each other grows.

This book had me laughing, reminiscing, angry and tearing up. I appreciated the mentions of scenes from the Office, Super Mario Bros, Buddy the elf and Jurassic world. I was laughing out loud to so many of Trixies mannerisms and thoughts. And phew, Bear was portrayed like a very sexy Luke from Gilmore Girls with a beard.

I really liked that the backgrounds of each character and how the past trauma shaped their lives. (Although I think Both should see a therapist still). I hate how books make family’s out to be picturesque but both Bear and Trixie’s family’s have issues.

The only reason it’s not a 5 is because I wish there was more detail in the romance scenes. Haha

In a big city, Trixie sees a chicken running across the street. Being that she works with animals at the animal shelter, she couldn’t help but get this chicken to safety and give it the help it needs. She names this chicken Chick Chick and brings it home to her apartment where she isn’t allowed to have any pets.

Trixie is caught with her chicken and is told that she needs to move out within week!! So she looks for an apartment that she can afford and luckily finds one where she will be someone’s roommate.

Her friend tells her that she should invite this potential roommate to a game just to see how he really is. Trixie thinks that’s a great idea and invites this roommate, named Bear, to the game and he accepts. Trixie ends up moving into Bear’s apartment.

What happens with Chick Chick? What happens to Trixie and Bear’s living situation?

I thought this was a cute concept, but I really didn’t see the appeal of both characters and I didn’t see their chemistry. I liked that this book dove a little deeper about how they are psychologically like why one pushes the other away, but I also felt like their flaws were awkwardly added instead of naturally added. I also thought it was weird when Trixie and Bear’s little niece had a lemonade stand to make some money and Trixie accepted half the money from Bear’s niece. I get that she was desperate for money, but I also cringed when I read that.

I didn’t really enjoy reading this book and saw the opportunity to listen to the audiobook. I figured that might help me enjoy the book more, but the male’s voice annoyed me and I didn’t find it appealing.

If you're looking for grumpy/sunshine with Disney vibes, this book is for you! Trixie is the perpetually sunshine-y heroine with an affinity for animals, and Bear is her grumpy savior/landlord. But neither character is exactly how they seem, and there's a lot more depth to their personalities than what you see.

This book was slow to start for me, and for the first few chapters I really wasn't sure if I would like it. It ended up picking up quite a bit, and became the fluffy chicken-filled novel I was hoping for. Ultimately, it ended up being a good read.

The book started off well but soon went downhill (like within 10 chapters). The author's execution of the storyline was simply not up to the mark. The characters are bland, their is no personality, no chemistry between them. The plot is boring and you'll eventually get tired and annoyed reading about the chicken who FYI is named 'Chick Chick'. Trixie is very unlikable and unrelatable. She's not like any other girls, she's quirky

Synopsis:
Trixie isn’t exactly sure what she was thinking when she stopped her car in the middle of downtown Chicago, scooped up a chicken struggling to cross the road, and drove off… but she does know that she has to find a new home for herself and her new feathered friend. The landlord at her apartment doesn’t allow pets and has caught Trixie in one too many pet-smuggling attempts in the past.

Bear likes his quiet life with his close-knit family, who own a flower business, but he’s in for a rude awakening when his meddlesome sisters post an ad to rent the spare room in his simple home, without asking his permission. Still, when Trixie responds to the ad, he agrees to let her move in, despite immediate worries about keeping things platonic.

Determined to keep her new room, befriend Bear, and give her rescue chicken the care she deserves, Trixie fights to keep her walls up and resist her romantic feelings for Bear. However, it’s not long before the pair’s proximity and chicken parenting ignite flames that have Trixie and Bear testing the boundaries of their platonic ground rules. They have to figure out how to save a family business, pay for mounting vet bills, and navigate their own emotional baggage if they want to find the love that they all deserve.

Review:
I really enjoyed Trixie and Bear's stories. They were well rounded and flawed and utterly human while trying to make the best of their lives in the midst of trauma and hurt.
I enjoyed their individual stories and found a lot of the aspects of their relationships funny, heart warming, and adorable. That all being said, Chick-Chick the chicken was one of the best parts of this book and she doesn't talk so that goes to show how diificult I found it listening to Bear and Trxie rehashing their trauma and feelings inside their own heads without every talking to each other, their friends, family, or certified professionals about it.
It was a cute story with some hilarious parts and a wonderful ending, but the middle felt flat for me. There wasn't a lot of richness in their growth together - until the end when everything is resolved.

I liked the idea of this book and that was it.
Both of the MC made me want to pull my hair out but I couldn’t stand the FMC. She was so obnoxious in her obliviousness. She was well aware of the trauma she had been through but chose not to go to therapy? Says she wants a husband someday but can’t open up to literally anyone? I’d like to say the MMC was much better but if you’re still hung up on issues you had in high school like people making fun of you for flowers…. I’m sorry who is going to make fun of you as an adult? Please just both grow up and spend some time with a therapist.
There was a breakfast burrito that turned into a bagel after a couple paragraphs… so not only did I not like the novel but somebody missed a pretty obvious mistake in the editing.
I don’t know why I finished this book as I abhorred the entire thing. Nice in theory but not well executed.

The romance is cute but in my opinion, the two characters have a lot to settle, communication is the key whatever the relationship. Trixie and Bear learn together over the days to live together, but it’s not easy to choose when the attraction is in the game.
Trixie is an independent young woman, with Chick-Chick they both form an unlikely duo. It’s not every day you meet the woman in your life chasing a chicken.
I loved Bear’s sisters. Each of them deserves a book.

There will always be people out there that will prey on weaknesses. And both of the characters experienced bullying & betrayal in their past.

They both had emotional scars. I just wish they talked about it to avoid the miscommunication between them.

The way the author introduce every character in her story is so unique.

Overall , it was a fun , cute and quick romance read. I enjoyed reading this book.

This is a cute, easy read that starts out with a silly chicken story. I think that overall, this book fell a little flat to me. There was no big problem that was resolved. The *spicy* scene was soooo cringey. I would not recommend this book to be added to your TBR.
