This book gets so much hate but it really wasn’t the worst book I’ve ever read. It also wasn’t the best. It kind of felt like if acotar and twilight had a baby but like in an incredibly mid way. Poppy isn’t a very compelling FMC. I do like that she’s independent but there are so many inconsistencies in her character. Like how is she so submissive when it comes to the duke but she sneaks off and fights Craven in the middle of the night. She is supposed to be smart but never seems to question anything going on around her? I liked her compassionate nature and I definitely think there’s real character growth potential in the rest of the series. Hawke was a bit more compelling in my opinion. He was unexpected and I grew to like him. I did find the whole book extremely predictable (seriously there was very little in the end that I hadn’t predicted) but I enjoyed the world no less. This book was also slower than I would have liked, over all, didn’t hate it, didn’t love it.

It has very good moments, but this needs more polishing. It's a very funny and adventurous tale of a girl caged in a world she doesn't want and someone that frees her through blood and pain. But he is infuriating in the bad sense. Also very predictable story, these plot twist are as straight as the main couple are.

Had me hooked. The world building was a bit weak but I was still enthralled. The twists and turns were great.

I was putting this book off for a good minute. One of my friends recommended it to me after I read/listened to ACOTAR and Crescent City. First things first: I am NOT a fantasy girl. I do however love to read what’s popular. I love to read things other people read so I can have discussions etc. This book was phenomenal. Some things I struggled with in books like ACOTAR and CC is trying to keep the lore and story straight. There is so much world building, so many characters introduced as well as lore and culture building, and if not done well, it can lead to confusion. Throughout ACOTAR, I found myself grasping the main storyline but side parts about side characters would get lost in the midst. I’d forget who or what certain things are, but with FBAA, I was able to understand and grasp most of it! I loved that. Also great representation with Poppy. She is not a skinny blonde girl with a perfect body. She has scars. Stretch marks. She is not perfect, and I LOVE that in a FMC. And the ending with the plot twist is *CHEFS KISS*. The very last line?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Great. Five stars. I can’t wait to start the next one. Not to mention supporting a fellow West Virginian? Love it all.
