I was a quite confused from the start. I couldn't remember much of the previous books and this one seems to start with a lot of different characters. Maybe because it's been so long since the last book, I just couldn't get into this. I still don't know what the story was and decided to stop halfway through. I'm giving it 2 stars as maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I knew what was going on at the start, or it might have improved by the end.

Ok, admit it and get over it! I will never finish this. Life is too short.

I was so hoping that this book would be great but it was just okay. I have never read a book by this author before so I was willing to give it a shot. I nearly gave up after the first few chapters. It didn't seem to flow and there were sections I would have to reread to see who or what was being referenced. Towards the end of the book, the story got a little better but I doubt I will be looking for the next book in the series.

I enjoyed reading this book, and now I want to find the next ones in the series because I definitely want to know more about the world and the characters.
I loved Mirrorworld and how it was steeped in fantastical creatures and legends from our own fairy tales and mythology, but how it was still progressing in the same way that ours did with guns and trains, an element that so many fantasy worlds don't have that i really liked.
And then I also really liked the characters. My favorite was probably Fox, though I probably wouldn't have known she was a shapeshifter until about halfway through the book if I hadn't read a few reviews on it. Not that it was a spoiler or anything, I just couldn't tell from the writing. I even liked the character of Jacob, though I wasn't too fond of him, especially during certain parts of the middle, but I loved how he was doing this all for his brother and how he was doing anything that he could to save him.
The only thing I didn't like was the romantic tension and whatnot that gratefully did not show up until the last third or quarter of the book.
we have Jacob developing feelings for Clara, and then Fox having feelings for Jacob and just all that blech sort of stuff
I wouldn't mind one book without that for once.
Other than that, there wasn't really anything I disliked (there was even less swearing in here than in Inkheart/Inkspell, which surprised me), though sometimes it was a little hard for me to read, but that's my own fault for only reading it in short bursts.

I love this book, however I don't think I like it as much as the previous two. It delved into Russian fairytales which I liked, but then there was a love triangle. However, it was not as bad in this book as they are in other books, but it made me like it less than I would have.
Also, i got a bit confused as to who some of the characters were because I took such a long break between books, and the cliffhanger really wasn't fun.
But, I absolutely love the mirrorworld and how it's not technologically devoid and just the depth of world building and the multiple layers of all the characters. You think someone's bad, but in the end you wknd up rooting for him because you're able to spot the good in them.
Overall, it's a good book and this series is definitely worth reading.

Typical Cornelia Funke. Beautifully written and captivating!

I loved this book. It was a bit difficult to follow at times and it wasn't the easiest to dive into but I loved it anyways. The dark fairy tale, the terrifying monsters, the sinister villains were all incredibly described. This is no children's book; it's a sometimes gruesome but always vivid tale of one man going to the ends of earth to save his brother. Cornelia Funke has such a talent in creating magical worlds that seem so real, with characters that are so real you swear they're talking to you. I can't wait to start the sequel.

This might be my favorite book of the year and one of my new favorite book series. This is just so good and eerie and amazing! I'm in love.

I had been waiting for the third edition in the Mirrorworld series by Cornelia Funke ever since I breathlessly finished Fearless. That it took a longer wait for us English readers meant that I didn't get my hands on a copy (well, e-copy) until October. The Golden Yarn was different than the first two. More ambitious in its scope and plot, and with more slow/calm bits in between to develop the large cast of characters. But overall equally enjoyable, and with the outcome of many of the story threads in it, I'm very curious to know where this story is going and what the endgame is. If you enjoy fantasy derived from world myth and fairytale (CF does this brilliantly) and a lot of darkness mixed in, I'd definitely recommend this series, which is for an older audience than her Inkworld trilogy (which I still enjoy).
