Life, Unscheduled speaks a volume to me. I could not be more happy picking up this book after what I been through. Like many career women out there, I too had a demanding job. It took me years to realize that I do not want to be slave to my job. It was a sobering revelation.

Miss Rockaway done a wonderful job painting a plot where the heroine is burned out and losing what is important for her. The book is long but it speaks volume. Especially for you out there who feel burned out by demanding career. Sometimes when I browse social media, I am dumbfounded with people who have it all. Posting all that cheery and happy pictures. I can not help asking are the pics fake? Just acting to get many likes?

Maybe some people are lucky to have it all.

This is a wonderful book.

So Relatable

I imagine anyone currently between the ages of 25 and 40 would vibe with Nicole, the main character, in at least some way. She’s a slightly exaggerated version of a real-life high-achiever work-oriented person who falls over the edge we all probably tread alongside. But her story is fun, funny, raw, and uplifting. I really enjoyed this book and it led to some necessary self-reflection.

This story is about a young woman who worked in STEM and was a workaholic. She was picked to be her best friend’s Maid of Honor for her b/f’s wedding. There was a lot of chaos going on with her best friend’s family regarding the wedding. Nicole, the main character, also had a love interest. This story is about doing what you need to do for you, while being there for the people you love. [Written on: Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 5:45 PM]

At first, I did not like the story. Parisa’s sisters were too much and Nicole was glued to her job over at Virtuality. I was hoping that she would quit her job throughout the story. Glad she finally did, though it took her so long. Also, Nicole kept talking about Brandon’s biceps. She was so shallow. That was annoying to read. And she had a difficult time standing up to people. Glad she finally did at the end. What I did like about the book was that the main character was a female working in STEM. I thought that was awesome. I would love to read more books where women in STEM are the main characters. I also liked the relationship that Nicole had with Parisa. I admire the fact that they loved and respected each other. They had such a beautiful friendship. Overall, this was an enjoyable read, though the beginning sucked.

3.5 stars It took a while to get there but the ending was worth it. There was just too much time setting up the protagonist as an over-worked tech worker who was out of touch with her feelings. All the resulting comes in the last few chapters - she could have been doing a little growing throughout.

I've loved every book by Kristin Rockaway, and this one didn't disappoint. Her books are always easy to read but with a lot of meaning behind them.

This time around, the journey depicted was about going from workaholic to finding more meaning to her life beyond work. It's something many of us have experienced and it was extremely relatable. I loved Brandon and how his passion for life was infectious, and his scenes with Nicole were so romantic and real. This was a really mature romance with none of the miscommunications and misunderstandings that usually create conflict. They were both honest with each other but sometimes a lifelong pattern is hard to break, no matter how much you want to. I also loved the focus on mental health and found families, how sometimes your own family is too toxic that it's better to get away from them. If you like women's fiction with romance, believable characters, and books set in the workplace, then you'll love this one!

This book is full of so many dumb clichés about being a millennial in the corporate world. If I had to read something like “hey, look at me. We’re not our parents, okay? We’re carving our own paths” one more time I was going to lose it. I tried to finish this because I hate not finishing books but it was horrendous. It was like reading the Instagram captions of the girl you hated in high school.

Such a wonderful read! As a worker in tech I highly related to Nicole. This was a great story that really exemplifies what its like to learn about work/life balance. I was hesitant about the love story but it ended up being more about self discovery and less about a man fixing her problems and I LOVED that.

This book was an easy binge read. Although frustrating at times yelling at characters to communicate, such is the way of life. Definitely reminiscent of a Hallmark movie, sans holidays.

“I think family isn’t made up of the people who raised you or who share your genetics or your last name or anything like that. It’s the people who share your beliefs and your values, who build you up instead of trying to hold you down. The people who love you for who you are and who always want what’s best for you.”

Such a sweet story of friendship! Kristin Rockaway writes some of my favorite books that deal with millennial anxiety, career insecurities and more.

Nicole & Parisa’s friendship is so pure! I haven’t had any close friends get married yet, but I hope when the time comes, I can be the kind of bridesmaid Nicole is
