Fun thriller leading up to a murder mystery, filled with teenage angst and sex shenanigans and sketchy encounters. Oh, and cheerleaders.

Predictable, unlikable characters, but I couldn't stop reading it.

Sheesh. Twisty delicious creepiness with an undercurrent of true malevolence powered by the deepest and most shallow of creatures-- girls. Girls are way scarier than women. Or men.

I wanted to like this book. But pretty immediately there was A LOT of TW E***** D*****  conversations and actions that were not necessary to add for the story to be told. I also didn’t like how toxic the characters were, and they were unlikable which made it difficult to keep reading.

I know there’s a tv show based on this book, but I won’t be watching it, nor finishing this book. Not worth it.

I hated this book. I'm still not sure if it's a young adult book or not. I realize many people gave this book good reviews but it just didn't do it for me. I really wanted to like it. The endless long descriptions of cheerleading moves was a complete bore and I felt added very little to the plot. I found myself towards the end just skimming those sections and really not missing much. My other issue is that I did not like one single character. No one had any redeeming qualities and I wanted to smack them all in face. While its been a long time since high school I don't remember girls acting like this or adults! I love edgy books where people do awful things but this was just dumb and not edgy. And the little surprise at the end was dumb too and didn't add anything to the story. I just hated all of it.

Another gripping, troubling read from Megan Abbott. Gillian Flynn-esque in its dark trawling of young women's treachery toward one another. I both wanted to keep reading and wanted to escape the nightmarish world established.

Great start, then hard to suspend disbelief

I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of cheer formations, tumbling, positive warrior talk. Then a 27 year old coach starts behaving in unbelievable ways. At that point, the book lost credibility. I continued reading because the insider's look at the world of cheer makes for good reading. I read this book based on Roxanne Gay's review in Bad Feminist, a boo k of essays.
