Nanase decides to become a nurse after being inspired by a doctor who helped out an older lady in a medical emergency. She pretty much endured the rigors of nursing school, with the end goal of getting a job at the same hospital where this doctor works, and then the two of them will fall in love, happily ever after, etc etc.

She got part of her dream fulfilled: she ends up in the hospital where Dr. Kairi Tendo works— unfortunately, it turns out he's a total hardass who's tough on nurses in general, and once he finds out she's been pining for him for years, he's especially tough on her and doesn't think she went into nursing/medicine for the right reasons and therefore should quit.

I mean he's not wrong.

So, Nanase isn't a terrible nurse. She must've been smart enough to pass the licensing exam, but the way she handles herself as a new graduate nurse makes me cringe. If I were her and my co-workers knew of my one-sided crush for this doctor and constantly teased me about it while I was on orientation— I seriously would just quit my job and find somewhere else to work. Also, it kinda bothers me how clumsy she is with patient care; when the elderly lady had to make a comment about how long she was taking with the IV insertion, that's not good. Patients generally don't say anything unless they really see you flustered and struggling, which Nanase probably was.

And let's not get me started on the girl hanging off the ledge. That's an ABSOLUTE never event and I would've gotten fired on the spot if I didn't catch that my patient had suicidal ideations and didn't intervene well beforehand.

Anyway, I'm just nitpicking now. Japan hospital system is not the US hospital system. Story is by-the-numbers workplace romance, and I find it amusing enough to continue reading.

I love Maki Enjoji's artistry and story telling. An Incurable Case of Love is no exception. The story revolves around Nanase Sakura who became a nurse after a fateful meeting with a young doctor. After graduation and internships she finds herself taking a position in pulmonology with the very same doctor she fell in love with all those years ago. However, Kairi Tendo is not what she thought he would be. It follows the signature rules of Shoujo manga. Fun, romantic quick read.

Story 2,4/5
Charaktere 2,4/5
Zeichenstil 3,4/5
Lesegefühl 2,0/5
Humor 2,0/5
Gesamt 2,4/5

*Dies of secondhand embarrassment*

Ohmygod what even is this. It's so painful to read. A young girl goes into medicine because of a cute doctor whom she met. I mean, I'm a huge simp but this is too much.

Dr. Lifechanger is really boring. I understand him being weirded out by someone being in love with him when they only met once and talked for 3 minutes. He still sucks, though.

After Nanase Sakura witnesses a handsome and charming young doctor save a stranger’s life, she decides that she wants to become a nurse! Her intent is to hopefully meet this doctor one day and thank him for the motivation to pursue such a lofty goal (and possibly something more…)

But, when Sakura actually does meet Dr. Kairi Tendo in person, she realizes he isn’t anything at like that charming man she met five years ago! He’s quite grumpy, unmoved, and unamused by her attempts to gain his attention. Despite her disillusionment though, Sakura finds Tendo to be a capable and diligent doctor who is always kind and caring with his patients. She believes she could learn a lot from this man.

What will become of these two? Will Sakura convince Tendo that she more capable than she seems? Will Tendo surprise Sakura with his concern for her success as a healthcare professional?

So far, this is a fairly entertaining manga with some lovable main characters. It’s not a hard-hitting, super compelling story —- but, that’s also not the point of this one. It’s supposed to be fun and a little melodramatic. Personally, I find it charming and certainly amusing at parts.

I’d definitely recommend this one to someone who likes medical dramas and wants a light love story~

Trigger warnings for this book: sexual assault, death, grief, suicide

I don't remember where I first saw this manga and added it to my want to read list, but it was one of those additions where I added the book then completely forget about it. Then it started to pop up on a few places online for me, and when I went gift shopping with my boyfriend, I ended up getting him to buy it for me for our anniversary because I knew that it was a book that I was interested in. I'm really glad that I did now because it reminds me, in a really positive way, my favourite manga series of all time, Itazura Na Kiss. I'm also really happy that I got volume 2 because I will be reading that tomorrow on the way to work.

I think that the story set up is like an average romance manga but then it deepens into something greater and I really loved it once Sakura started to get to know the real Tendo and forget the romantic ideal of him she created for the last 5 years. The story also deals with some serious topics in a really healthy way, and the ending even made me emotional and cry.

The only criticism that I have about this story is that I think that the kiss should have been in a different scene because it took away from the emotional impact of the previous scenes. I was literally in the middle of crying then I stopped abruptly because of the kiss. I felt like it was bad timing and emotionally manipulative of the character to do that, but then he admits to this, and Sakura accepts this, so I still don't know how I feel about this.

Overall, I really enjoyed this manga and I can't wait to read the next one. I'll be really sad once I've finished that book though as then I would have to wait months for the next one to come out...

I just love shoujo. It's predictable, but so good.

An interesting and promising start to a new to me series. Hopefully it continues to keep me hooked and doesn't take an weird turns or unfortunate turns that will turn me off of it. I really like the Grumpy x Sunshine relationship that the two characters have going on. I've never read a manga where the characters are doctors/nurses, so this is a new and fun change for me. There are a few triggers though (which is to be expected considering this is set in a hospital) such as death, attempted suicide, etc. So just be aware of that going into the story.

Can't wait to see what happens in the next volume!
