Short Review: This story was nice.
After taking a really long break for a bit, I wanted to come back with something a bit softer to prevent a reading slump. A contemporary romance that's been sitting my shelf was perfect. I heard a lot about Kasie West being the queen of romance, and I'm inclined to believe everyone. But if I liked the story, why the low score?
The whole book is exactly as I said, nice. I wasn't a big fan of the characters staying in the library for so long, and kind of wish the outcome was different. Everything was just bland. I can see why people relate to Autumn, really I can, but I just got really annoyed at how she often let her friends walk over her (minus Lisa). There wasn't nearly as much build up for the romance as I would have liked.
But other than the fact that the story is comparable to unseasoned food, I enjoyed it. The happy ever after ending was a nice change of pace compared to character death.

Short Review: After weeks of attempting to read Breaking Dawn, the Twilight franchise has finally come to it's conclusion. For now. I will be covering the side novels to this, including the newest one, Midnight Sun. But this took so long that I physically had to take a break from reading for the rest of April.
This one is my least favorite out of the four and it's super easy to point out why. Stephanie had no reason to drag that horrid honeymoon plot for soon long before reaching the interesting bits. The pregnancy drama is super good, and the war between the Cullens/Volturi is the best part of the series. However, you have to read at least 70% of the book before reaching it, with the honeymoon arc taking 20% of that. Why???
Also, I hate the Jacob and Renesmee plot, for obvious reasons. It would have been cute to seen an Uncle/Niece relationship instead. If Meyer had to have the vampire/werewolf romance, it should have been with Jacob's son. Or at least someone that wasn't previously in love with Bella. Hell, I would have written Jacob out entirely and made him the younger son (of who I'm not sure, but at least make him the same age as Renesmee), and have the romance blossom that way. Sure, I'll give Meyer that the idea of Jacob, a werewolf who hates vampires with a passion, falls in love with one. It's good, but it's fucking ruined by the fact it's super predatory.
I won't be returning for a while, since Meyer's writing makes it impossible to just cannonball into but now that it's over, I'm super excited for the future projects I have for this series, as I've already begun work on one of them.

Short Review: I'm having trouble coming up with words to say about Eclipse that I haven't already said. In comparison to the other entries in the series, Eclipse is perfectly ok.
It is my second favorite, with Twilight coming in first, in terms of rank but that can easily be done since the Bella/Jake drama was not it. Everyone knew Bella was going to choose Edward, even Jake. Yet he still attempts to romance her, despite her making it perfectly clear that she doesn't like it, that it becomes super uncomfortable to read. At one point, Charlie even encourages his behavior which pissed me off entirely. I can no longer watch the movies without those bitter moments coming to the surface. Seriously, Meyer should have cut that out.
Other than that, the plot wasn't bad. More along the lines of 'mid' but nothing like what I've heard coming from the Twilight haters over the years. It was certainly more interesting than the break up plot and spoiler alert, leagues better than the honeymoon plot. But with Jacob's unwanted advances, and Edward's behavior also acting up in this book, it's only second best.

Short Review: All I can say is thank. Fuck. it's over. For now. Obviously, I will be covering the last two books in the series and maybe the short stories. But it's safe to say that I'm not ready to return without detoxing from the massive headache I get from reading about the stupidity of it all.
The same issues I had with the second book continued with the third book. America, the stupid bitch that she is, not once thought to tell Maxon that she, at the very least, knew who the guard was. And Maxon should have picked Kriss in the end. America does not deserve to be anything to Maxon after lying to him.
On the other hand, Maxon doesn't deserve fucking shit. I blame his character being all over the wall due to Cass not knowing exactly who his character is. But instead of being a shy, naïve person. He came off with this asshole whiney energy that I was not vibing with. Sure, no one can tell you what to do Maxon. You're clearly looking for control through the massive abusive family you have. But you are going to be king, and you do have to make a decision. If you were so fed up with America, you should have sent her the fuck home. If you were in love with America, you should have worked the issues out instead of draping some fucking girl over your arm. Like she has to put up with jealous. Relationships are a two way fucking street, not one.
The whole story is a flaming shit hole and I'm just glad it's over. I really hope Kiera Cass learns from this, and we can actually see something good come from her. Because I really love her writing style as it's easy to read through. It's just the lack of structure in the story that bothers me.

Short Review: I. Seriously. Hate America.
I knew my nostalgia would only take me so far with some series, but I genuinely can not figure out why I liked this series. My guess would be the idea of walking around a palace in a princess dress while falling in love with a prince is what made me interested, because I love fairy tales. But god damn, a main character can't possibly get this fucking stupid.
Sure, America, you have no idea if you really like Maxon. And admittedly, he's being really shady with how he's going about the competition. He wouldn't even need a Plan B if he, 1.) raised his damn standards to realize no one should need a Plan B, or 2.) Don't fucking run around ignoring her and you won't need a damn Plan B. Seriously, I was screaming for Maxon to double down on the attention he gives America because this is where he needed to be there the most.
Granted, America isn't a fucking angel either. In what fucking world do you just gladly walk a very thin line for two guys who don't give a single shit about how you feel? Aspen broke up with you, and didn't even take your feelings about the Selection/or his life in general. Maxon, even though he's being super fucking patient, should not have made you feel like you weren't worth his attention anymore. But that gives you no right to go behind his fucking back!
Thank fuck this is a trilogy and not a longer series, because I would have fucking gave up. Never in my life have I seen a MC be so fucking stupid and pointless in my life.

Short Review: This year, as a reader, I wanted to take an attempt at reading more Indie authors whenever I can. This book is free over on Amazon, and is only 43 pages, and so it's a really great option for those of you who want to dip your toes into the Indie side of books.
The story, though short, is decent. A few times, the abuse we see from her parents, seem almost cartoonishly silly. But the message involving suicide is bittersweet, and a more realistic take than I've seen in regards to this topic.
I implore you to give a try. It's not perfect, but it takes an hour at most to read the whole thing.

Short Review: In my journey of reading Harry Potter for the first time, I knew this book was going to be my least favorite.
I was never a fan of the plot when it was portrayed in the movies and I'm STILL not a fan of it in the books. Everyone is such a dick to Harry for seemingly no reason, other than circumstantial evidences that could mean something, or mean NOTHING AT ALL. The lack of action that Dumbledore didn't take to prevent finger pointing, or the lack of action of the adults being adults. The idea of a huge ass snake not being spotted by anyone, even the ghost that lives in the bathroom where this takes place is a huge fucking plot hole. Not to mention that Harry being the one to open a chamber that said adults of the school couldn't find for years, having little to no experience.
I'd like to point out that later in life I will absolutely do an in-depth look in Harry Potter, and articulate my points with more grace, but I would have really preferred this book be cut or the very least edited over one more time.

Short Review: After reading Natasha's previous works, The Cellar, I thought I would give her another try. It's always good practice to not judge an author so quickly after one book because some books just don't work out.
I will say that I prefer The Cellar over this, because I was just so bored the entire time. All of the characters are really that interesting or have a personality. Everyone kept pointing fingers, and there was a weird heavy romance subplot that I was just not interested in.
Suffice to say, this one didn't work out either. I have plans to check out The Attic, but I don't think I'll be getting to it anytime soon.

Short Review: I should have listened to Caleb Joseph. But did I? Hell no. In my defense, I was trying to read books that were previously on Wattpad but are now published for a personal project of mine.
Where to start with this? The plot was just okay, with Clover being sort of generic in the mystery thriller genre. It was interesting for a killer to name his victims after flowers but the backstory could have used a bit more work. I could even deal with the weird descriptions of actions, like when Summer smiled warmly but sadly at the same time.
But even the subpar plot wasn't the thing that tipped me off the edge. The first red flag was Summer calling herself a boring and plain girl, because no MC in the history of books ever have confidence. The second red flag was the fact we only saw her do three things the entire book. Cooking, showering, and crying about her old life. The third red flag to pop up was when she tried to hatch an escape plan with Violet, and did nothing to help. That wasn't the tipping point. All those things were bearable to me.
What royally pissed me off and set my mood for the entire book was around chapter six. Rose tries to inform Summer of what exactly is Clover's problem. Keeping in mind that Rose has been missing far longer, Summer proceeds to pass judgement, acting like Rose is defending his actions of kidnapping and murdering girls. This is something she does the entire time, passing judgement on the girls for trying to survive. Don't want to fight back against a man that could kill you? How dare. The girls keep calling her Lily, even when Clover isn't around, because it's not like he could possibly hear them? Constantly snap at them with your correct name. Showering twice, getting ready and having dinner with their kidnapper because he will kill them if they don't? Disgusting. Girls letting Clover drag them off into a separate room so he can have "his way with them"? You must have wanted it.
I can not stand when someone's actions are questioned in a tense situation, and they decide to play it safe. I wasn't even expecting anything good because, it's Wattpad. The author could have very well have wrote Summer falling in love with Clover and no one would bat an eye because it's so normalize there. But even when the bar was literally touching the ground, I still get disappointed.

Short Review: Oh, Marieke Nijkamp. What can I even say?
I'm usually a fan of mystery thrillers, even the most cliché ones. But this was just raw chicken bland. The plot is extremely empty, with the only interesting aspect being their LARP game. But we only spend 5 chapters in their LARP game. The rest is just...okay. It follows the formula of people get murdered, group tries to leave house, killer reveals themselves last minute, group kills killer, group goes home. The killer, which is one of the important parts, couldn't even save this story because I guess who it was before even touching the book. There is no thrill, there is no mystery. It's just bland.
But what's even worse than a bad plot, is bad characters. I wish I could say they're simply okay. But it seems the theme of cardboard "diverse" characters are a theme within Nijkamp's books. I hated reading every page, no matter the POV, because the only thing this group knew how to do right was shit all over each other. The ONLY characters that I ever gave a damn about was Carter, which seemed to be the groups punching bag. And Maddie, who was the only round dynamic character there. That's it.
Very formulaic, very boring. But at worst, just a waste of time.
