We Were Liars was a boring and a short read (thankfully). The characters didn't interest me and the plot was mediocre. There was nothing really going for the novel. Writing this now, I don't really remember much which says a bloody lot. I was interested in the family dynamics of the rich, white folk to an extent. There were some things that annoyed me about the themes, specifically race and class. I thought that the Grandfather's views had the opportunity to be more explored. I'm not necessarily criticising his or anyone's views, I just thought that it was underdeveloped, and I guess that's what I should have expected being a young adult novel.

The relationship between the main characters was also toxic. Despite the fact that Gat had limited time, he would dismiss or ask to dismiss arguments he had with Cadence. Mostly everyone seemed fake- all the daughters were the stereotypical unemployed housewives (except one). The writing style was also forgettable- with the broken sentences especially. I really don't understand why people could love a novel like this. It really baffles me.

This novel was mediocre, substandard and boring as f. I really liked the premise of the book and some of its issues it explored, however, it was lacking in just about everything. I liked hearing from Joe's perspective, however, it wasn't anything amazing. I didn't really like any of the characters either, including those being murdered, especially Beck. I rather her dead.

This book did raise some good topics including the use of social media and technology in our society but failed to deliver it in a more shocking, thrilling manner. The major thing that I can think of that was wrong with this book is that I didn't think it was interesting. I should have been shocked when Joe invaded Beck's privacy, but I wasn't. I was shocked, however, by the crude, sexual descriptions that were given, which I gladly enjoyed the original description. This was also great to hear, being narrated in second person. This perspective didn't really scare me which was really disappointing.

Having watched the movie before reading the book, I had high expectations, not to mention the hype. But I did not like this book. It took me forever to read as it was slow and hard to continue. I was doing this for a buddy read over the span of two weeks and I fell behind miserably again and again. Segmented reading is not for me lol.

I was expecting more creepy aspects to the novel, more action-packed adventure etcetera. I loved the photographs but I felt that the text was substandard in comparison. Not only was the beginning slow, but the entire book was slow. It was really hard to continue with this book. The characters were intriguing, but not memorable. I can't even remember most of the characters. I just wished that the plot had more depth.

One thing that I was in shock was Emma's and Jacob's relationship. All I could think was of Jacob's grandfather and how this was some twisted romance from that. GROSS! Just thinking about it gives me chills.

This book was my first ya contemporary novel that I've read in years. I have to say that this book is definitely overhyped. I loved the first part of the book. It was really heartwarming and intriguing. My main issues lie within the second part.

The perfect circle was so unrealistic and irritating. I found myself ranting as I was listening to it in my reading journal! If I was reading the physical book, I think I would have put it down- I think that listening to audiobooks is easier to persist as I multitask. Every little thing has an explanation, came back to the other character, intertwining their lives to each other. This was just a crappy plotline and it really put me off.

I did love the mysterious element to the book, and I definitely think that it's one of the reasons that I continued it as it was a slow start. I also loved the fact that Jude had her grandmother's ghost watching over her which added a layer of humour that was well needed.

I'm not sure how I feel about Oscar though. I mostly liked him in Jude's narration, but I really didn't think that he was memorable in Noah's narration. I didn't like Jude and Oscar together - it was really hit and miss for me. I personally thought that they were wanting to be together, then not, together... blah blah blah.

As I've said, my main issue with this book was that it was so connected and accounted for. THIS IS SO UNREALISTIC! Everything became perfect in the end (I think I'm more for realistic, edgy narratives that don't follow a set structure, telling you how it is). I didn't really like the characters and found that they were unmemorable except Guillermo who I bloody loved.
