In a Rush by Kate Canterbary
5.0
Kate Canterbary’s mmc’s more than any other author’s mmc’s ruin me for all other men. They are so down bad for their women, they are so big, and grumpy, and grumbly, and so perfect! No one in real life will ever compare. I love the idea of a marriage pact, and Ryan was so sneaky about it! He knew Emme needed to be tricked into realizing she was in love with him, and that the pact they made when they were younger was the best way to do it. Then the way they so easily fell into a relationship was so believable because of the history of their friendship. Another 5 star read for me. It had everything I wanted. I do wish Ryan had been the one to punch Teddy, but I think that he got what was coming to him in a way that was the most satisfying.
I already can’t wait for Kate’s next book, I cannot get enough of her writing, and want to reread her books the second I finish them, this is no exception!

Hold Me Until Morning by A.L. Jackson
Did not finish book. Stopped at 7%.

I cannot with the short choppy sentences. Apparently it’s her writing style, and idk why I didn’t notice it til the 3rd book, but now I can’t unsee them, and I hate them!

I had fun. I liked JP and Hazel a lot more than I thought I would considering neither are the types of characters I normally love. My one complaint is that this was advertised as enemies to lovers, and it was barely dislike to lovers. Like seriously they were making out so quickly, and it wasn’t a hate make out at all. Other than that it was good for what it is. I absolutely saw one twist coming, but did not see another one, so that was fun.

This was so good. The kind of book that will stick with you for a long long time. I don’t read a lot of historical fiction anymore, and read even less books that take place during world war 1, but this was incredible. I think you should go in blind because knowing too much about it sort of gives things away, but if you like VE Schwabs Addie Larue, you’ll like this too. It’s atmospheric, and dark, and sad, and fully immersive.

I didn’t like the beginning of this. It was almost a dnf because the story felt disjointed for me, like not enough was flowing between the events, and the in between moments Ava and Jamie were alone in the hotel or the car. Everyone loves this though, so I continued, thinking maybe it was a me thing, and I just don’t connect with this authors writing. I’m still not sure I do, and really not sure If I’ll read more by her. But the ending really made up for the mediocre beginning. It was so much fun once Jamie and Ava got together, and once all the pieces of what was happening to her on the road started to become clear. Overall it was a pretty fun time, Ava was the standout, and of course princess Peach!

I just said in a review of a Romantasy that 1st person single pov isn’t my favorite because I feel like it doesn’t leave room for the whole story, or for side characters to be fully dimensional. And yeah I stand by that, but also, when it’s done right, it can really keep things going. In this case the story from anyone else’s pov would be a spoiler. Although I would LOVE some bonus chapters from Hades’ pov. There was a lot going on, and the focus was obviously on Lyra because she is telling her story, but I still formed attachments to characters other than Lyra and Hades, quite a few of them actually! There were some really really fun twists, and the Challenges were heart palpitating, I was truly stressed, but in that way that makes you want to not put the book down, and forget about sleeping, and real life! The chemistry and slow burn between Lyra and Hades was so perfectly done, their tension throughout was palpable, I couldn’t get enough! I can’t believe we have to wait til September for the next book, but I am so excited for it!
I was one of those mythology nerds when I was younger, and while I know a lot about them, I learned a few new things here too, and this was a fun twist on the world and lives of the Greek Gods. Overall this was such a fun time, and I recommend it for anyone that likes a mythological twist, and the gods in the modern world.

Marie is so funny! I spent this entire book giggling! Her chapter titles as usual had me laughing out loud. She also just writes the best women. Unapologetically badass, stands on their own women. Ariella was incredible, I loved her journey so much, and loved seeing her own her space, take no shit, and hold her own in a male dominated field. I also loved that she realized she didn’t have to sacrifice anything of herself in order to be in love. The right one will love all of you, just as you are, and Dalton was the right one! Dalton was swoony, the perfect book boyfriend. He was so sweet and kind, and his dad can suck it. If you like Marie’s dark romances, you’ll like this too. It still has her humor spread throughout, and there’s a small bit of drama that feeds that itch.

This was good, not great. Part of that is that I don’t like 1st person single pov in a fantasy series. Especially in a book this long. It takes away from some of the world building because we only get it from one view, and it’s hard to build side characters because we are so focused on the fmc, and her love interest. There is no opportunity to know anyone else, and in a world that is supposed to be large and rich, that disappoints me. This also dragged a bit in the middle, I was bored, I wanted out of Saeris’s head and to move into someone else’s to see what was going on somewhere else. I also didn’t love how one minute Kingfisher was just a huge unlikable dick, and then he changed from one page to the next. But again that’s the cost of single pov, we don’t see his struggle at all.
The last 200 pages were exciting, and it was interesting enough that I’ll continue the series, but if it remains single pov I’ll probably quit pretty quickly.
