Absolutely gripping from beginning to end.
I felt such swathes of emotions throughout the book, wanting to know at all times the Brooke was safe.
I am a follower of hers on TikTok, and am dévastés for her and the family that Earl is to be released from prison. Although he’s served his official sentence, I felt like he deserved much more.
I pray that the family stay safe and we’ll, and we don’t have to read a repetition of this book down the line from another victim!
In Plain Sight: A True Story of Kidnapping and Rape by Anna D. Stoddard

Obviously there are HUGE trigger warnings necessary for this book.

This book was a real easy read, but likewise a tough one. The writing was extremely good and showed off Anna’s ability to write. I think I would love a follow up to this book, to understand her journey to love and TikTok!

Alternatively, for her to write a book on the lack of compassion in US police for SVU’s and her obvious passion for uncovering the inadequacies of the police to convict rapists would be really interesting.

With what was discussed in the book, I can’t say I “enjoyed” it, but it was insightful, interesting and more importantly shed light on an horrific subject. I follow Anna on TikTok which is where I learned of this book, and I’m grateful to understand her journey more.
Ellie and the Harpmaker by Hazel Prior

I loved this book, and have only marked it down a star because it just wasn’t as good as Call of the Penguins! I absolutely devoured the book never mind…
I love the topic of presumably and autistic person and their way of life and how she comes to him. I think that it’s such an unusual place to start, but after reading that Hazel Prior is a Harpist, it all came together a bit more… write about what you know and all that!
With regards to the flow of the book, I found it hard to get into, then happily read along, then at the most dramatic parts I flew through the prose.
Can’t wait for the next one now!
Strangeways: A Prison Officer's Story by Neil Samworth

Although I found the topic really interesting and really enjoyed Sam’s perspective, I found it much harder to read and buy into than say Dr Amanda Brown’s book.
I’m glad that issues of prisoner overcrowding, mental health issues and PTSD were all talked about, and I hope that this book means that Sam and his family can live off the royalties rather than working back in the prison service again!!
Murder by Witchcraft: A Pendle Witch Short Story by Karen Perkins

I read the book, it was ok, but to be honest, as a descendant of Yorkshire folk, I found the writing in “Yorkshire Dialect” to be neither nowt nor summat! I think I would have preferred a book written in modern English over this.

The story itself (its sen!) was fine, but neither explained enough about the Pendle witch trials or went into the character’s personal life enough to make it interesting enough for me.

Wouldn’t really recommend, but ok if you want a quick read!

Really great book. Not my favourite of Sophie Kinsella’s hence not giving it 5 stars, but certainly worth the read!
I loved how the story started, the ups and downs, the complete 180 of the story and how you really must remember to talk to your family and loved ones about everything!
Great, easy read!
