"None of This is True" by Lisa Jewell totally blew me away! From the get-go, this book had me hooked with its mysterious vibe and constant guessing games. Seriously, I couldn't put it down! Every time I thought I had it all figured out, Jewell threw another curveball, leaving me questioning who to trust.

But what really sets this thriller apart is its format. The whole podcast-style thing gave the story such a personal touch, like I was right there in the action. And let me tell you, the dynamic between the two main characters? Absolutely brilliant. They contradicted each other in the best way possible, adding a whole new layer of complexity to the plot.

And don't even get me started on the atmosphere! Talk about uncomfortable—in the best way possible. The power dynamics shifting had me on edge the entire time, literally giving me goosebumps as I read.

Lisa Jewell is hands down one of my favorite thriller authors, and "None of This is True" just solidified that. Five out of five stars, no question. If you're into crime thrillers, do yourself a favor and pick this one up ASAP. You won't regret it!

Title: "The American Roommate Experiment"

Author: Elena Armas

Rating: 3/5

"The American Roommate Experiment" by Elena Armas offers a humorous take on the classic roommate trope, but ultimately falls short of its potential due to predictability and character flaws.

Armas injects the narrative with witty dialogue and comedic situations that provide plenty of laughs along the way. From awkward encounters to cultural clashes, the story unfolds in a series of entertaining mishaps that keep readers engaged. However, despite its comedic moments, the plot follows a formulaic trajectory, making it predictable at times.

One of the main drawbacks of the novel is the protagonist's tendency to make assumptions, which becomes increasingly irritating as the story progresses. This flaw detracts from the enjoyment of the book, as it leads to frustrating misunderstandings that could easily be avoided.

On the other hand, the male character presents an interesting dynamic, adding depth to the story with his complexity and charisma. Unfortunately, the twist surrounding his character feels overly built up and ultimately fails to meet expectations, leaving readers feeling disappointed.

Overall, "The American Roommate Experiment" offers a light-hearted and amusing read, but its predictable plot and frustrating character flaws prevent it from reaching its full potential. While it has its moments of humor and charm, it ultimately falls short of being a standout novel in the genre.

I sooooooo wanted to give this 5 stars but something stopped me. Don't ask me what because I'm not sure I can put my finger on it yet...maybe I'm just jealous that Garrett is perfect and Hannah gets him...I don't know.

Gosh, my list of book boyfriends is stating to get a little out of control 🤦🏼‍♀️

So Hannah is a smart, sassy girl with a crush on a footballer at college. Garrett is Captain of the Hockey Team, total playboy and has fluncked a midterm, which is a problem because it screws his GPA and affects his ability to play Hockey in the upcoming season. So a deal is struck early on between the two; Hannah tutors Garrett ready to retake the midterm and in return Garrett helps Hannah make the footballer jealous by taking her out on a date. Of course this actually works perfectly until it doesn't.

I love the detail in this book. It was hot and heavy in all the right ways and balances itself out with complex issues and storylines. Can't complain. Lots of stuff gets explored and it gets quite meaty at times which I personally love but it still felt quite light with the flirty banter between characters and the running jokes throughout. Not enough to be a complete comedy but definitely not hard and serious.

TW:
- sexual assult
- physical abuse
- drug use

P.S: I started this at 1pm today...finished at 10:54pm...sorry, not sorry...

This was nearly a 4 star, but just fell short.

I have always been of the opinion that smut and spicy are very different.

Spicy = story > sexy
Smut = sexy > story

This definitely started out as smutty but about halfway through the story became slightly more complex which I enjoyed.

So we start with a one night stand after a flight to New York needs to stopover in Boston. Simple enough. Then we jump forward and our MC, Emily has got her dream job in Media firm, Miles Media, and has moved to New York permanently. Only she soon finds out that Mr One-Night-Stand is in fact the CEO and things begin to unravel from there.

I did like the story. It was definitely 50-shades like with the Man of Money, always in control, bossy sort of thing and the woman who won't "submit" to his demands. There was a lot of back between the 2 characters and I found the chemistry was real between them.

Yeah, so I liked it. Not a 5 but a very high 3 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

My heart is pounding with the pace of these books!  This is not a drill! I repeat! This is not a drill!

I won't lie, I did think perhaps I wouldn't fall for this series because I had an expectation of them. Usually, when something has been hyped up by others, I feel slightly deflated by the book itself but no. This is not the case...

So much to say and so little space!

1. Celaena is a boss bitch! This girl has more about her than most female characters I've read in a while! I mean, let's be clear, I knew she wasn't simply an assassin, but dropping a bomb like that made me sit up sharp and reread the sentence! The best part is...then I got to do it again! A stellar way to close @therealsjmaas Inspired!

2. I need to take a moment to appreciate the men here. I can't decide who I want to take home at the end of the night...The Crown Prince or the Captain of the Guard 😍. They are such dreams in totally opposite ways! Can I take both or is that greedy?

3. Nehemia. Such a smart woman but so much could have been saved if she just spoke without riddles!

I screamed upon reading the final 2 lines of this book. Like, really screamed! The second has now taken its place on the bedside...but only while I type this 😂. I have a week off work so I will definitely be posting about that one in a few days! Now excuse me...I have a new book to start.

As much as I enjoyed this book, it was long. I listened to the audio book and it took a whopping 29 hours. Once I had started l, I knew I was in it for the long haul. So in light of that, I'm going to keep it short and sweet 😅

The book itself is definitely for readers with an interest in American Politics and it's useful to know a little about the history. Obama tells his story with such a passion and you can feel his will for the world to be good. I found the general themes so positive and inspirational.

My critique would be that Obama is a very wordy man. He knows this, he jokes about it in the book and even explains that he needed to dial back during his presidency. At times, I was struggling to keep up and focus on the words and that took away from the overall experience of the book.

Would I read it again? No but I'd definitely feel like I had missed out had I not read it at all.

Sooo I found this book on Kindle Unlimited, first in a trilogy and boy am I a sucker for a fantasy series...especially those with some mature, steamy scenes! 🤫

I started reading this at 11pm last night and just finished it at 11am this morning, I had maybe 5 hours of sleep in between 🙈 I couldn't put it down! @jmjohnson1993 absolutely gripping! Massive congrats 👏

Story is about privileged girl meets tortured boy and they are drawn to each other by an unmistakable bond.

Oh did I mention they are werewolves?...and incredibly beautiful ones at that 💖

Of course, that is not the end, that is basically the first few chapters.  All hell breaks loose from that point and the mix of action and the heartbreaking love story was more than enough to keep me going. I found it tantalising.

Without giving too much of the story away (because over 18's MUST give it a chance) I absolutely melted for the moments the beast was tamed slightly and the slow melting of his heart was exquisitely written.

I related to Violet so much. She is a strong woman who has grown up to people please in a sense. She is opinionated and challenging and also a little spoilt...gimme a sec because I 100% could be describing myself in that sentence. Her determination to break this man and make him feel was unyielding and defines unconditional love.

I am aware that I am just talking about the nice, sweet things so far. Just to be clear...there is A LOT in this book. Abuse in every form is portrayed and evil doesn't cover some of the acts committed by wider characters. It was hard to read. Do not dive into this thinking this is a beautiful tale, it will quickly rip that away from you. If you can read through that then you can enjoy the pockets of elation throughout.

I will be reading the sequel soon. The introduction at the end of the first one LITERALLY had me saying "Oh my Goddess!" repeatedly...which shows I am now officially invested in these characters.

Please support small authors. This author has done extremely well and I am so glad I took the chance.

Words cannot describe how much I needed this book, nor how much I loved it!

Light-hearted, fun, tender, tense, everything you would want in a romantic comedy. I am somewhat late to the party I imagine as I've seen many conversations on social media about this book.

Firstly, the typical contrasts between the small, sweet Lucinda and the tall, muscular Joshua were as expected. As typical as they are, it's exactly what you need in this type of story. The personalities of each we're made unique by the small intricacies which are revealed as the story goes on and the jousting with words gave each character their own distinct voice.

Now I love a book with a bit of spice to it, but good lord was I waiting. I loved the way @sallythorneauthor kept the games going and how each one got saucier. How she gave Joshua the strength to turn away on some of those steamy occasions blew my mind. I could have screamed 😂. Saying that, the slow pace of the romance is what made me sit, curled into a tiny space, bringing the book closer and closer to my face, attempting to block out the rest of the world until I was completely and utterly absorbed by each fraction of movement made by each person. Gosh, I cannot say how much I wanted to be Lucy in this book.

For me, this book was a true tale of hot and cold feelings. The splitting comments, the lust, the games, they were all such a good way of giving these two characters permission to do the things the reader is begging them to do. Each tiny moment was amplified and every small gesture was intensified. I just loved it.

I would 100% recommend this book, in fact, 1000%. Anyone (of adult age) would enjoy this as a light-hearted read. I would say it's quite a quick book to go through as you just can't wait for the next moment of...weakness? Liberation? Whatever you call it, you know it's only round the corner. You just have to keep reading for the next part.

Now, please excuse me while I purchase the physical copy because the ebook is just not enough!

This is the story of a privately educated young girl and her best friend. That's the short version. But the amount of trouble and pressure in this book is insane.

Reading this book really gave me some form of insight into the pressures that private education can put on a person. Of course, I am slightly biased in that area as I am a teacher myself, but it broke my heart seeing these young characters make all sorts of backwards choices just to be successful in the eyes of the adults around them.

I actually really enjoyed reading this book but I couldn't give it 5 stars because I found the beginning was very stifling. By chapter 5 I felt like I was rereading the same chapter over and over. But I pushed through and when things began to change for our main character, Josephine, my opinion quickly followed suit.

I loved having to follow a duel timeline through the story. Each bit from the past fed beautifully into the present, including the final two chapters where things seemed to wrap up neatly with a lovely yellow bow. Most chapters were left on a slight cliffhanger (lovely writing tool) so you could easily find yourself saying "just one more" and watch the pages fly by.

Some difficult themes come to light in this book, so if abuse in any form is a trigger for you I would read with caution. That being said, I think it's important for these themes to be in the books we read. The events in this book have never happened to me or anyone I love, but it unnerved me and awakened a deep fear in me at how sometimes control is not something we have. Particularly as girls grow into young women.

I am a reader who loves almost anything, so I'm always up for recommending books but if tales of teens in trouble is your thing or school-based dramas for that matter, give this a read 😊

So I always know when a book has me enthralled because my partner utters the line "I don't know how you can read so much." That line was said for this read.

The story is told from three perspectives - one of which the reader is spoken to directly near Part 4. The tale is about a young woman who, on the face of it, inherits a multimillion-pound mansion in Chelsea and begins a journey to discover more about herself and the somewhat bizarre circumstances in which she was found as an abandoned baby. With numerous characters, numerous perspectives and numerous timelines, this could be viewed as a challenge for some readers but @lisajewelluk has written this impeccably well and keeps everything very distinct and undeniably detailed to ensure that this plot can be followed and anyone could read and enjoy it.

It's no secret that I am a fan of @lisajewelluk and her writing and I have always found her subjects thought-provoking. The theme of abuse was close to my heart but the gentle hints to narcissism and cult behaviours prior to the more pronounced exploration of them further on we're, quite frankly, chilling. I found myself thinking how easy it could be for someone to slip further and further into those devastating circumstances.

I would usually take this point in my review to discuss the areas of the book I didn't like...and there isn't anything. Sorry.

I would recommend this captivating thriller to anyone who is game for a good, suspenseful page turner. The gripping back and forth from past to present, the trouble and difficulties of life for each character and the ultimate cliff edge of a final line will keep your fingers primed for the turn of the next page.
