"legend" is a dystopian story set in an authoritarian government called the republic and follows its darling and its greatest criminal.

i've loved marie lu's writing since i read "warcross" in middle school but am now just finally getting around to reading "legend". lu's writing is so addictive and compelling and it really carried me through the story. "legend" was fast paced and filled with many twists and turns that made it a fun reading experience. i love how lu didn't shy away from the deaths that happen under authoritarian regimes and she has set up a terrifying enemy with the republic. i LOVED june and day, and while i thought their romance was rushed, i love the potential for their fractures and growth throughout the series. both stand as strong and compelling characters on their own (which is very nice) but together they are just as interesting. (also i love june SMMMM!! day is good as well but june comes from this place of high power and went through this journey of reestablishing her morals and it was so well done!!!!).

sometimes the book was a bit too fast paced for me, and i felt as if some parts felt shallow as a result, but overall this b

a slice of life book, but like, in the apocalypse.

this is a dystopian book where an asteroid hits the moon closer to the earth which fucks with the gravitational pull and causes an all around hell. miranda keeps a diary where she chronicles her life and how her and her family survive. i ATE this book up when i was younger and i can certainly see why. miranda's voice is very strong, and the way it changes throughout the book is just great. i also lived how the author showed how all the family loved each other very much, but after bring cooped up with each other for months they started to get snippy. miranda and her mother's relationship also hit a bit to close to home personally. the ending was very abrupt and i found myself wishing there was more. it seemed like the author didn't know how to finish it so she just snipped it off there. that being said it also made sense w

an asteroid is going to hit the earth in two months and the odds of survival are slim, what do we do with our last days on earth?

be basic.

idk, i read this when i was younger and i remember being GAGGED but i read it now and it just lacked the oomph factor for me. i think the ideas about what drives us to continue in life were interesting but ultimately not as compelling for me; i read so i could be DONE rather than see how the stories progressed.

also the author wrote women a tad weird (sexualizing)

dude.

im gobsmacked.

this book follows the infamous queen clytemnestra, wife of agamemnon, who kills him when he returns from the trojan war. in the mythos she is regarded as a cruel woman and a violent queen, and generally not a good role model. this book takes a look into her life, and the events that lead up to the murder of her husband. we start in sparta where clytemnestra is raised with her sister helen (of troy) and then end in mcyane with the murder of agamemnon.

this was a phenomenal read. to start off the writing was fantastic and brought you into the world and didn't let you leave. you can tell casati did SO much research because their was a plethora of details about what life in ancient rome, and greece as a whole, was like. we see the attitudes women have towards men, each other, and how men feel about women and each other. the author also contrasted this against spartan views and mycanean views. the writing and the specificity drew me in quickly and made the experience feel fully realized instead of just being told i was in ancient greece but modern day english is spoken.

and clytemnestra? phew. best deep dive of a character i've read in awhile. we grow up with clytemnestra and witness the tragedies she experiences and we see how it changes her. casati wrote the development of clytemnestra SO well, especially as she grew up and was forced to fit the mold of a wife that went against her instincts and desires. i love how casati showed that clytemnestra continued the cycle of misogyny against her own daughters and children and i just- AUGHHHH. love, love, this book and the character of clytemnestra. again, i didn't like her towards the end of the book, but i still loved her character and was able to understand her and how she became this way. casati didn't try to push the narrative nowadays of a villain actually being a good person all along, clytemnestra was a woman with love and loyalty that was used against her and eventually turned her into a not good person. I"M THE NUMBER ONE CLYTEMNESTRA DEFENDER!!!!

GOD I LOVE THIS BOOK SM. I COULD WRITE ABOUT IT FORVER.

definitely checking out more of casati's work and I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book!!! i was really hesitant to read it because this resurgence we have of books written about greek women and making them "feminist" really just take away the depth and nuance of greek women and force this surface level idea of feminism. clytemnestra however completely destroyed my expectations and restored faith to me that we can write greek heroines without re-explaining feminism for a whole novel. love, love this book.
