YOU ARE THE BEST WIFE : a true love story by Ajay K. Pandey
4.0
This is author's debut book based on the true account of the author and his wife's love story and subsequent marriage until destiny reveals its plan.
It is a story of Ajay, a Brahmin boy, and Bhavna, a Kayastha girl with divergent beliefs who fall in love. Ajay believes in living for himself; Bhavna teaches him to live for others. Ajay is a planner for life; Bhavna makes him live in every moment. The story starts with engineering college in Allahabad where they met and fall for each other. A sweet story of college and lack of money but rich by heart. A four-year relationship become long-distance relationship when Bhavna started work in Hyderabad and Ajay goes to Pune for his MBA. This story told with frankness and doses of humor. An inter-caste marriage was a very big deal for their families but they do everything to convince their parents and never surrender.
It's a profound journey and struggles with life shows excellently after his beloved wife left him midway. But the last word of Bhavna, 'You are the best husband' gave him the strength to live on and fulfill his promise of love. He searches for a reason to be happy and start working with an NGO after Bhavna's death. It's not easy for him until he decides to live his life with Bhavna's memories. He understands that quality of life is what matters, not the quantity.
It's a very innocent love story and described very well. The author uses simple words which are easily understandable. This story gives you goosebumps. It takes an exceptional amount of courage and determination to pen something like this and all proceeds from this book will be donated through Bhavna Charitable Trust. All in all, it's a very emotional story and I would recommend it to all.
There are two kinds of personalities. There are those who have everything and still complain as if they have nothing. And there are those who lose everything and act like life has given them everything. Sometimes both these personalities exist in the same soul. Kill the first one, I love the second. - Bhavna

Esme's Wish by Elizabeth Foster
3.0
Esme's Wish is a debut book and first in the Esme Series trilogy written by an Australian author, Elizabeth Foster. This fantasy work has based on an underwater city named Aeolia. A fifteen-year-old Esme felt something unusual at this father's second marriage. She tried to express herself but ignored by everyone. Esme lost her mother when she was little. No one knows the details of her disappearance. People assumed that she lost her mind, and Esme's father hide the truth from her.
But somehow Esme knows that there's a lot she doesn't know; to find the truth, she accidentally entered into Aeolia, a city of dragons and enchanters. At first, Esme thought that she is gone deranged, and it is all just in her head. Soon she finds out that her mother visited this place, and her world starts changing. With the help of her new friends, Daniel and Lillian, Esme unfolds many mysteries.
The plot revolves around Ariane's dual life and how Esme finds a lead on her. Everyone shares their pieces of information with Esme. Aeolia is suffering from earthquakes, and Esme finds the connection between her mother and Aeolia's legends. It makes her a target in this unique land. Will she able to find missing pieces at the right time or lost her mother forever?
Characters - Esme, Lillian, and Daniel's trio are ambitious, stubborn, kind, and brave. Their friendship felt real. Daniel and Lillian helped Esme to trust and rely on others. They helped each other grow.
Mare's character has a dark and mysterious side, but when he appeared in the cave, I felt he is a frail person; that scene didn't work for me well. I felt the thrill was missing. I hope to read more about him in the second book. Apart from this, I don't think any other character plays a significant role.
The language is explicit and error-free. The description is pleasant. The narrative is slow-paced but engaging. I appreciate Elizabeth Foster's attempt at writing, being a debutante she did a good job. If you like to read about magical creatures and appealing adventures, this book is for you. I can't wait to read the next book, Esme's Gift.

You are the Best Friend by Ajay K. Pandey
3.0
You are the Best Friend is a sequel of You are the Best Wife written by Ajay K. Pandey. In the first part, he shared a love story of him and Bhavna. The way they met, got married, and parts away. I read the first book in 2017, and it is that kind of story that touches your heart and left you with tears. Now I finally got the chance to read the second part, which is based on the author's life after the untimely demise of Bhavna.
Ajay was in depression after Bhavna's death. He lost touch with his friends and tries his best to look happy in front of her mother. He lost interest in his job and one day went to Rudraprayag for the Art of Living program. Ajay lost his faith in God after what happened with Bhavna and seeks an answer to life after death.
He befriended Anisha. She is a believer and challenges Ajay's lost beliefs. They share a gentle and soothing connection and relished each other's company. Ajay was struggling to find a publisher for his first book, You are the Best Wife, while Anisha came up with unusual ideas of book promotion. I loved their first attempt at mini launch, which in the author's word turned into a micro one.
Ajay's story is heart touching. One can easily connect with it because his emotions and pain felt real. I love the first book, and I like this one too. After Bhavna, Anisha played a significant role in his life. He mentions that he meet Bhavna's parents and spend time with them, it shows that he values relations even after they lost the person who unites them.
Although I don't like the way Ajay K. Pandey stereotype ladies by stating, "Being a girl, Anisha stood by her dharma. First, she called me to hang out at a place like Dilli Haat. Second, she was late. Both reasons were sufficient to commend her dedication to womanhood." I know a lot of men who never show up on time while being a woman; I am very much disciplined and show up earlier rather than late. Also, a statement by Ajay's doctor felt stupid, "Depression is a problem of the intelligent. Fools never suffer from it."
I cried a lot when I read the first novel, and this book is no exception. I would recommend this fast-paced moving book to everyone.

Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
3.0
Everything is going well in the life of Gregor Samsa, until one day he woke up as a bug. He neither realize what happened to him nor does his family have any idea. He worked as a salesman who travels a lot, his family dependent on him. He works hard, so he pays the debt his father owed. He has dreams and wanted to leave his job, but unable to do anything.
The family struggles to meet day to day needs when Gregor metamorphized. His mother starts doing sewing, her younger sister and father also took jobs. In the beginning, they all hope that Gregor will back into his real form soon. But when things getting worse, they decide to get rid of him once and for all.
People say that the character of Gregor's dad is inspired by Kafka's father. They both were ruthless and have a strained relationship with their sons. Gregor was misunderstood by his kith and kin. It breaks his heart and spirit. The story is fictitious, but the sentiments of the isolation felt real, which makes this book appealing.
The reading community has different opinions on this book. Some liked it, some just hate it. For me, it is a one-time read which I appreciated because of a unique writing style. The language is easily comprehensible, but I have my issues with the story as well, like, the abrupt ending, half information on Gregor's circumstances, the way Franz Kafka sums up the book with a handful of characters, etc. This book is considered a half autobiography by some, and it is one of the notable books of the twentieth century as well. If you enjoy reading classics, pick this one.

Trinity by the Horns: A Tale of Gods & Bots by Prana Natarajan
3.0
Trinity by the Horns by Prana Natarajan is based on a space research project. The author represents an entertaining tale of science and mythological fiction where findings of Earth are a part of a start-up. The cover page left me in amazement, and surely grabs the attention of readers. It's engaging and artistic.
Bramhanand, Bala, and Shiv were chosen by the board members to deploy bots on the planet to study its geography, topology, and accessibility. Bramha takes care of product launch and development. Bala is in charge of all the necessities during the lifecycle, while Shiv's role to end the lifecycle and shift to the next one. With the help of Gurpreet and Shukra, the trio deploys DEVA (Drivers of Economic Value Addition) and ASURA (Autonomous Sensorineural Unsupervised Robotic Algorithm) to the planet. But their different characteristics create havoc for everybody.
The female protagonist, Shakti was appointed as a CEO to control the action of the trio. Under her guidance, they designed innovative bots that change the progression of life and death. But the threats come from her people left Shakti at a cliff-hanger. The investment of Indra and Quber will give the desired outcomes or the planet will be ruined by intemperance?
Every character has a resemblance to a God or the devil we heard or read about in Hindu mythology. Prana Natarajan exhibits the story in a thought-provoking manner. Sometimes you feel that you know about this person or that situation, but the way the author blends it with scientific notions makes it worth reading and witty.
Shakti's character has more potential than the trio. Other characters take the story forward, but won't leave a mark. The author needs to focus on character development. The spelling mistakes and grammatical errors break the flow of reading, but it serves its purpose of entertaining the readers. I would recommend it, and I am hoping for its second part as well.

Forever Is a Lie by Novoneel Chakraborty
2.0
The first book in the Forever duology Forever is a Lie is written by Novoneel Chakraborty. The story revolves around Prisha and Saveer's love life accompanied by some mysterious shadows. The eyes of a girl on the cover page are alluring.
Prisha was 18-years old when she first met Saveer, also known as Mean Monster in the Bengaluru party circuit. Being a 34-year-old, Saveer ignores her first and considers her as a teenager; who doesn't know anything about true love. Prisha had a break-up, and somehow Saveer's words helped her to move on. She was obsessed with him, follow him everywhere with her friends, Diggy and Gauri. He brings her dark side in front of her.
Soon the circumstances changes and their relationship started to flourish. They were so engrossed in each other that they avoid unusual signs which state that they were not meant for each other. Saveer has no kith and kin, no friends. They all were dead, but the reason was not mentioned in this book. Prisha's life is also at stake, but Saveer didn't share his secret with Prisha, just like his dead ex-girlfriend, Isha. He has a pang of guilt, but he didn't learn his lesson. Honesty is the key that Saveer lacks in his relationships.
The story felt flat and monotonous. It picked some fascinating elements in the end, but it was too late. The characters were okay, they do all the stupid things which we expect from 18-19 years old. The language is simple. I read Cheaters last year and enjoyed it very much. I have high hopes with this one, but I am utterly disappointed. The book lacks a thriller. I am not sure if I am gonna pick the second book any soon or ever. If you're new to reading, looking for something light to read, then pick this one; or just leave it.

Karmic City: The City of Lord Vishnu by Hema Myer Sood
5.0
Karmic City: The City of Lord Vishnu is a second book in the trilogy by Hema Myer Sood. The plot based on the spiritual awakening in the domain of Lord Vishnu. The cover looks lovely. It indicates sea and aquatic animals which are considered as Lord Vishnu's home in Indian mythology.
The story continues with the Soul (an ageless and nameless entity) describing different aspects of life, death, and Karma to Aditi, Virat, Vaidehi, and Karthik. It is considered that the city of Lord Vishnu leads to the domain of Karma and sustenance. The author describes all the nine avatars of Lord Vishnu and their purpose on the Earth. When we wallow in misery and rave and rant about our misfortunes, it may eventually increase our Karmic debts. To decrease it one must follow a spiritual path, do the right things, and always show gratitude towards nature and supreme lord. They will illuminate our path in darkness.
Lord Vishnu always supported those who were righteous and seek his help. Our spiritual guides help us to choose the right environment to be born in and when they feel that we have completed our tasks death occurs. This book gives a new perspective towards our relationship with God which is now only becomes a one way. The human aura which can be seen and influence our surroundings.
The author describes the need for Sathwic food and thoughts. Stale meat is indicative of high negative energy that is imbibed by the person consuming it. When an animal is killed, fear enters in them, and a chemical reaction takes place within them, and negative energy begins to build up. The book is divided into two parts. The first consists of the Supreme Purusha and in second, Prakriti (Mother Nature). The author scribbles poems on different topics that provide noteworthy explanations.
I really like the previous book in the series, Karmic City: The City of Lord Brahma, but I love this one. I read this book slowly because I want to understand its explanations according to my level of consciousness. The words can't describe how good this book is. Once you read this book, you'll definitely feel or connect with nature or a higher entity in a different way. This book changes my views on meditation and gives me a fresh start.
The author uses different examples to make the readers understand heavy stuff. Few things felt repetitive. The language is simple and comprehensible. Hema Sood further describes Kundalini Chakras, the temple of the soul, human's relationship with Gods and the way to reach them, Geeta's shloka in an ultra-fine way. The Mahabharata always fascinates me, so I really enjoyed the part when the author describes the Arjuna's low spirits and confusions which are altered by Lord Krishna. It's another magnificent and rich piece written by Hema Myer Sood. I recommend it to all. All spiritual seekers and readers must read this book.

SHE STOOD BY ME by Tarun Vikash
3.0
She Stood by Me is a romance fiction and debut book of Tarun Vikash. The subtitle "Love is not a relationship" is intriguing, and in a deep sense, it tells us that it is a lifelong commitment. The cover page and blurb give an idea about the story, but it is a journey, that as a reader, we enjoy a lot.
Plot - This is a tale of Aparna and Abhishek. A boy who is shy and madly in love, while the girl has no idea about it. Two friends, Manish and Nidhi who helped them to avow their love. Their love story begins with a sweet note, but soon reality smacks them. First, they went to different cities to study, and then the job. It was hard for them to sustain a long-distance relationship. They didn't meet often, which leads to further chaos. They decide to tie the knot, but their parents want something else.
The story portrays a hardcore Indian family with a relative's drama and social pressure. Love marriages are still a big deal in India. No matter whatever the situation is, Aparna and Abhishek stand with each other. If you ever love someone or deal with wedding drama, then you can connect with every single character.
The fear when parents knew about your affair, the naughty friends who create more trouble, but in the end support you in every possible way. The relatives and parents worry about what will they think or say are narrated very well. The story is written by male POV, that's why I felt that Tarun Vikash didn't do justice with Aparna's character in many places.
What I like - the language is lucid without any syntactic errors. The narration is steady and fast-paced. Being a debutant, Tarun Vikash did a good job, but he has the potential to compose a tale way better than this. This is a simple love story of a middle-class people, and the stuff that I mentioned earlier is their actuality somehow. The struggle is authentic when it comes to love marriage, so if you're looking for some light romance novels, pick this one. Recommended to newbies.

End of Saamba Dance by Sridhar Ramachandran
4.0
End of Saamba Dance by Sridhar Ramachandran is a story of Saambasivam Venkatraman (SV). He is the chairman and MD of Saamba Holdings Limited. He is a great visionary and successful leader. He started the company with his childhood friend Anantha, and soon accompanied by SV's brother Subbu. Saamba Ltd. becomes a multi-millionaire company in a few decades. SV's elder daughter Radhika married to Venkat, son of a minister, M.Arunachalam Chettiar. SV's wife Meenakshi is a homemaker, the author eloquently describes their marriage and love.
The story starts with an accident of a TV reporter, Sriraman in 2017. The author switched back to the year 2013, and we learned all about the Saamba group. Soon the SV's visions crossed the lines, and his greediness will take the company to downhill. SV has loyal employees, but he has hidden enemies too. The high-profile frauds did by politicians and businessman will lead to economic disaster and murders.
In his debut book, Sridhar Ramachandran dealt with corporate corruption and the policies of banks and government which proves to be a financial disaster for Saamba group. The book starts with a thrill but changed the pace soon. The plot setting has a Tamilian Brahmin culture. The author used footnotes for a few South Indian and financial terms for better understanding.
The story has a lot of characters, and sometimes, it creates confusion. The suspense element is low, I feel bad that the author didn't give much importance to Ram's death, but with the smooth execution of the plot, lucid language, radiant cover page, and rare insights into the business world; this book will grab the reader’s attention. The author nicely put down a tale of corporate failures and success. Although the book is for everyone, I feel the readers who have a financial background and have an interest in the business will enjoy it much.

The author nicely put down a tale of corporate failures and success. Although the book is for everyone, I feel the readers who have a financial background and have an interest in the business will enjoy it much.

The Pearl of Immortality by Nishi Chandermun
4.0
The Pearl of Immortality is the first book in The Sands of Time series penned by Nishi Chandermun. This fantasy novel revolves around light and dingy magic, where two boys from Earth find themselves in a whole new world. The cover page is excellent. I loved it.
Two friends Kaspar and Xerxes, find a mysterious lamp on the Earth that teleports them into a new planet called Ishtar. They were dissociated and found themselves in different dimensions of the same planetoid. According to legends, they both must fulfill their responsibilities and save the magical world. Xerxes's destiny is to become Dragonheart. So, he can get rid of Naga's race. To do that, he was sent on a mission to retrieve a pearl of his dragon Sesha. He was accompanied by Nab, his master, and an elf Siri.
While Kaspar was accommodated by Horus in Amarok. He learned that he brought a bow that leads him close to the king of Amarok and his daughter, Zara. He soon discovers that he is a Veerkah warrior, a species of wolf. Xerxes and Kaspar have to fight evil and accept their fate. The Naga king and queen also wants the pearl, they want to destroy everything that is created by Elder Gods.
Kaspar and Xerxes both were at different places and try to understand their reality, but they also think of each other and wish for each other's well beings. They face a lot of quandaries in the whole book. With the help of their new friends, they overcome all the obstacles. The dragon and Xerxes share a special bond, and it is notable. With the help of Nab, Xerxes embraces the magic inside him.
There are so many personalities in the book, so the compendium, in the end, proved helpful. I like that Nishi Chandermun developed a mighty, female elf role. Everyone characterizes as a solicitous, apart from Nagas. Xerxes and Kaspar's confusion towards everything written down well. The magical world has different stories related to every object, it makes the narrative intriguing and page-turning. The language is lucid and error-free. I felt that the story requires a darker side of the Naga race. So I would love to read more about it in the next book.
Being a debutante, the author did an astounding job. If you want to dive into a world of dragons, gods, magical objects with hidden purposes, then this book is for you. I thoroughly enjoy the novel and eagerly waiting for the second one. I recommend it to every adventure fantasy book lover out there.
