This definitely isnโ€™t my usual genre of books I like to read, but if you know anything about me, I will consume any media that has to do with Jack Wolfe. Two days ago, the musical adaptation of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry closed at the Chichester Festival Theatre, staring Jack Wolfe as David. Therefore, I checked out the audiobook on Libby.

I was VERY nervous to read the book after watching Fear Street: The Prom Queen on Netflix a couple weeks ago, but I can happily say that these two stories are completely different.

The movie adaptation of this book isn't great; I was honestly disappointed in the plot line and lack of everything that the original trilogy gave us four years ago. I could seriously go on about the movie being bad, but this is a book review, so back to that.

This vibes of this book were immaculate. Every Fear Street book I've read is written with childish suspense, nothing too scary for the younger audience, but spooky enough to get them into the thriller genre. Probably my favorite book in the Fear Street series so far.

Thank you, Simon Teen, for sending me an ARC of this new edition of The Prom Queen!

I really wanted to like and enjoy this book. It's been on my TBR for years, as I love a queer sports romance, but I was severely disappointed in the writing itself. It felt very childish to be a young adult book. The vulgar language felt forced, some of the character's choices were off, and I really would've liked to see more from the story in general. Maybe I'm not up to date with the "Young Adults" terminology now-a-days, and don't keep up with them as much anymore. . .

The whole story is a cute idea, like I love a wlw football player x cheerleader relationship, don't get me wrong. I'm always on board to reading one of those stories. This one just wasn't my thing unfortunately.

As an avid reader of retellings, I really enjoyed A Treachery of Swans! (Based on Swan Lake, if you couldn't tell from the title.) The first half of the book was a bit difficult to read as it felt like the story was dragging on. I found myself putting the book down after every chapter to take a break on my phone, but as soon as I got halfway through, I couldn't wait to find out how it ended.

I was hoping there would be a sequel when I finished the book (before reading the epilogue), as I wanted to see Odile keep growing as a person and sorcerer.

Speaking of Odile, I absolutely loved her character in the book. She has such a strong voice that she doesn't get to use often due to being mistreated her entire life, but when she does use it, she's a complete badass.

Thank you so much, Simon Teen, for the ARC from the Romantasy Summer 2025 Book Box.

Damnnnnn okay. Definitely not how I expected the trilogy to end, but you know, Iโ€™m here for it. You go girl ๐Ÿ˜—๐Ÿ™Œ

Oh dear, I finished reading the book and found myself liking it so-so. I had higher expectations for a cosplay competition ex-relationship rivals to lovers, then I see that this author was part of that Freydis Moon scandal?? Absolutely not.

The story is 3 Stars, but for the author being a terrible person, it will get 1 Star.
