Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
3.5
I love Jane Austen’s writing, she’s so funny yall. And this story was really sweet, following a young and naive girl as she grows into a world of friends, balls and parties. She loves scary novels, and knows very few people, so her view of people and their motivations are a little skewed. But she learns and she grows, and I love that in a heroine! She gets be wrong and make mistakes, which is something I appreciate in Jane Austen’s books a lot. The main characters sometimes make stupid mistakes just like real people do, and get worried or embarrassed about things they’ve said. So relatable for a book written so many years ago

This book was fantastic, really interesting, well written, with a super original premise. So, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is considering reading it.
However, it wasn't really my vibe. But that's because I'm a character person and I felt no connection or intrigue with any characters. Not because I dislike unreliable or 'evil' narrators (I did think Lolita was really good for example), I just didn't feel anything for any of the characters including the women. I might be weird, because I know this book was objectively good, I just felt nothing!

Lies We Sing to the Sea by Sarah Underwood

So much romance. So much romance that it distracts from the story, in my opinion. And there is some very slight spice, which I didn't expect from what I believed to be a YA novel.
But, it was a very cool concept, with some interesting characters. Sadly, I don't think the ideas or characters were actually developed in interesting ways. Less flirting, more intrigue!
Also I didn't like the romance between Melantho and Leto. A super old woman who only looks young, manipulates a young girl into possibly committing murder and doesn't tell her the truth about why bad things are happening in the first place.
And it always annoyed me that Leto was on board with killing the prince because it's his life for the lives of hundreds of girls, but the second killing him would also kill Melantho it's suddenly a problem? You want to kill the prince, the future king, the only one trying to help the kingdom through their money problem, beloved brother, that's totally fine! But Melantho? Oh no, I love her too much to live without her, so I guess more little girls have to die until we sort it out! That's so stupid!!!

Considering I only read 70 pages in 17 days I don't want to inadvertently slump myself by forcing myself to read something I'm not engaged with. I'll be honest the font is so tiny in the edition I have, it's so hard to read for long period

Den här boken var exakt det jag behövde. En bra dekare, med fina miljöbeskrivningar och roliga karaktärer.

Good lighthearted murder mystery. Took a while for the real story to begin, but exactly the type of story I needed

I'm just not really feeling the vibes. It seems alright, I'm just lacking focus

This is just a taste issue honestly. I can't really handle unlikable characters, especially if it's never really discussed or analysed. And every character in this book made me so irritated!
