Anna Marie McLemore’s view of the world touches me in ways I never am able to find the language of until now. When I read (listen) to their writing, I want to be creating the art that they have spilled out all over the pages alongside them. This book was no exception to that.

I enjoyed the unique narration style and the concept a lot. The pacing of plot felt a little unbalanced and dragging in moments where it should not have been and rushing over others. Compared to Alexis Hall’s other period pieces, I felt as if the worldbuilding here was lacking and relied on implied prior knowledge of this world a lot more.

It was a fun book. I enjoyed all the transcriptions and interviews that layed out in-between Hunter’s narration—it was a cool touch. I enjoyed the story overall. I think I just maybe wished for more depth about the rest of the band and a little bit of a longer ending. The true breaking point in the plot occured around 90% of the way through and I wished there was more action around that before tying things up. Overall though, I thought the messages Adib Khorram was trying to tell landed well. I especially appreciated the references to my hometown thoughout haha
