This book hits the ground running Robert Hunter a seasoned detective gets a call from the killer, who has his new partner Garcia captive. Wow I was hooked immediately.
The deaths and torture methods the killer uses are varied and grotesque. The descriptions are so detailed you can picture it all clearly in your mind. Super sadistic and dark but I loved it. It made the killer so menacing and unpredictable. Also their seemingly random choice of victim is also an inspired choice as you really have no idea who he will strike next and why. The tension builds and builds in this one as the detectives scramble around trying to piece it all together before another victim is discovered dead. Bit of romance thrown in for good measure. I loved the big reveal. Truly excellent writing. Read by Thomas Judd who has the perfect voice for the job his Hunter is bang on and he changes up his voice for each individual character. He narrates all Chris Carter books so it's a nice constant cast of voices from this one man.

This gets a murderous 5 Lucy Stars from me ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

What a strong start as always for a Robert Hunter thriller. A priest found dead in a church blood splattered all around and the body mutilated. Oh I had chills from the off again with this book. Just when you think the deaths can't get more gruesome, Chris Carter hits it out of the park. Without giving too much away I don't think I will ever think of a steak frying the same way again. Grim but brilliantly descriptive writing.
I loved the introduction of their new Captain Barbara Blake. A no nonsense woman who speaks her mind and has a biting sense of humour. She really whips those detectives into shape. Also Molly a runaway medium/psychic girl who can feel other people's pain and is getting flashes of the murders. She is so sweet and well written you genuinely care what happens to her.
The tension builds and builds as the bodies start to mount up. But will they catch the killer in time before completing his tasks and disappear. At the same time as all this carnage prostitutes are turning up dead with their throats slashed it gives that extra level of threat and intrigue. So so good. This book will have you riveted and stuck to the end of your seat saying just one more chapter till you have reached its end. Read expertly by Thomas Judd as always.

I give it a thrilling 5 Lucy Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A very sad start to this one. It had me hand over mouth fully in shock at the first deaths in this book. The way in which this killer goes about killing is truly horrific and ingenious. I love how these books set you up with a strong opener, makes me reminiscent of Casualty back when it made for good TV on a Saturday night. You knew it always opens on some blood and gore a big disaster/accident scene. You knew it was coming but it was all the more exciting anticipating that moment when said accident would occur.

Chris Carter is the master of such writing he has you on the edge of your seat just waiting for that next body to drop.
Dee King makes a reappearance he was introduced in the Crucifix Killer murders. He is a high class hooker pimp that treats his ladies nice and let's them leave when they want. A pimp with a heart and provides great banter with Hunter. I am hoping he makes appearances in future books to come.
I love how these books are layered with anticipation and suspense. They get so close and then find they know nothing the next minute. Throw in a bit of sexual chemistry with Meyers the pretty private detective and this book has it all.
Kept me guessing till the end and when it is finally revealed who the killer is and why he does what he does it makes it all the more tragic. I may never look at threading a needle and thread the same ever again without thinking of this book. Great writing as ever and expertly read once again by the sultry vocal stylings of Thomas Judd.

I had no doubt from chapter one that this is another 5 Lucy Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Chris Carter has this one all sewn up.

"He didn't forget the peppercorns but he did forget to live"

This book is really different from anything I've read before. I found it hard to follow at first as Emma slips in and out of memories and it jumps back and forth in time a lot. You are Emma's mind and memory.
It is so beautifully descriptive. Everything is described with such feeling and detail. It is very poetic and devastatingly sad at times too.

It makes me want to visit Cornwall it is so beautifully described. The village life where everyone knows everyone's business and knows everyone living in the village. I love the group of friends Emma makes in Jane, Pete, Claire and Ann Jay's mom. Embracing life in a new place and the change that comes with it. Going cold water swimming is something I would love to try someday. Their interactions and how they take Emma in and care for her is truly special. Emma is trying to understand Jay and why he took photos down there before he died and to find out why he ended his life.

You really go on the journey of grief, love and loss through Emma and those around her. Having lost loved ones I could relate to some of the content of this book. And suffering with mental health I have been so low as to contemplate suicide before. This book allows you to see what happens after the fact. The people it affects and the lives that can be ruined from your loss and the way in which you choose to leave this world can affect those people around you. It makes you thankful for family and friends and to embrace the life you have as you only get one life to live.

I give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lucy Stars

I love a set up where you read about the crime first and then it takes you back to where it all begins and slowly builds to the dramatic finish.

I immediately warmed to Rose as a character even though she has been sent to prison for killing a man, after pleading guilty in court. I very much enjoyed Theo also as the writer visiting her in prison trying to find out why she did what she did and learn about her life.
I loved learning more and more about Rose with a dark sense of foreboding as we get deeper into her life.
Her love affair with Daniel Dean which burns hot, fast and lustfully. His over protective friend Ed who comes across as quite the sinister character. Her story all unfolds to Theo. And some of the twists and turns along the way are very shocking. Loved the ending very much. Well written and read really well by Daphne Kouma. I give it 4 Lucy Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The chain is a very unsettling and sinister operation. This book's premise is brilliant. If you give up your child dies. It's not about the money it's about the chain, a good slogan. The stakes couldn't be any higher. Rachels' life is thrown into turmoil with a single phone call to inform her her daughter has been kidnapped and if she doesn't follow all the instructions precisely Kylie her daughter dies. I was strapped in from the start. This book shoots off the blocks with a strong start. How would you even go about raising £25,000 I wouldn't have a clue.
Rachel is a strong leading lady in this story she becomes more and more of a survivor throughout. She enlists help in Pete, her ex Brother in law who has a heroin problem but will help get things done. Part One is very intense and keeps you on the edge of your seat. So many twists and turns along the way.
I loved learning about the origins of the chain and how it came to exist such a dark story and the characters involved were very well written.
Rachels' unease about being on the chain can't be sated. I loved the ending of this book it comes at you like a high speed train on a track. If not a little predictable it is still enjoyable. As things start to unfold and chaos rains over all involved. Very good indeed. Read excellently by January LaVoy it boggles my mind how people can change their voices so much for each individual character.

I'd give it a page turning 4 Lucy Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book had me at hello. I immediately warmed to the three female characters Siobhan, Miranda and Jane. The narration was wonderfully done and gave each of them a personality and heart as well as being well written of course. It is read by Evanna Lynch, Heather Long, Kathryn Drysdale and Luke Thompson as Joseph. Each character is so different from the next and all in love with the same man. No doubt this book brought the relationship drama at times. It had me frought with emotions. Rage, joy, sadness, giddyness, lustfulness, judgemental, delighted and more.
Joseph is a wonderfully created character also as a man he isn't perfect, he is flawed, he makes bad decisions but most of all he is human like us all. And he grows and changes in your opinions as this book unravels it's secrets. I had a typical love and hate relationship going on for him throughout.
I knew I'd seen this book all over bookstagram for a reason. Wonderfully put together plot kept me guessing till the very end of what ending you were going to be left with. Fantastic bit of romance and storytelling. Quirky characters not only in your leading four but also in the friends and family surrounding our core characters. I loved so many of them. The charity shop pals of Jane were my favourites and AJ is most definitely the man I would personally like to settle down with. I'd certainly read more books written by Beth o'leary in the future. Loved this.

I give it a lusty 5 Lucy Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
lighthearted fast-paced

This is a real sweet and heart warming book. I love the idea of a life swap. Leena a young woman having a work crisis and struggling with the loss of her sister is going to live in the Yorkshire countryside taking up all the responsibility of her grandma, whilst her grandma Eileen is moving to her London flat to give dating apps a try and to help Leena's friends to sort their lives out.
Both these characters are instantly likeable even more so with the vocal narration of Daisy Edgar Jones as Leena Cotton and the ever so wonderful Alison Steadman as Eilleen Cotton her outgoing and vibrant grandma. They really lend a whole lot of heart to both characters as well as them being wonderfully written.
The cast of characters that surround them are also as likeable as them. Fitz, Bea and Martha are marvellous as Leena's friends taking her grandma in and helping her to adjust to life in London and make the most of what London has to offer. The whole village of pensioners back in Yorkshire and Jackson the handsome teacher are a great group of characters. Although Lenna has a bit of a shaky start with most of them she soon wins them all over and finds herself in the process. Arnold was probably my most favourite character though as he and Leena form a friendship and she changes Arnold's life for the better. So much romance and high jinx ensues in both life swaps. It really is a touching story of friendships, family and dealing with the loss of a loved one. Having lost my dad last year I could really relate to a lot of the grief and memories of those loved ones lost in the time after their death. It had me in tears towards the book's end. It filled me with so much joy also that I was bursting with it. It's a really feel good read. Cannot recommend Beth O'Leary's books highly enough.

Another wonderful 5 Lucy Stars from me ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a real treat of a novella. 69 pages of pure creep. I loved it. It is the first book I've physically read for a long while as it did not come in audible form. The two main characters are so well established in such a short period in time. So bizarre reading books that include the pandemic I guess we will see a lot of those in the future. This really captures the loneliness and isolation elements wonderfully. Jack is a true creep peeping at Audrey through his telescope and writing all about her in his diary. As it is so short in length it is tricky to review with much more detail without giving away any spoilers of plot. But I can guarantee you won't regret giving this a read. Very enjoyable. I love Sarah Denzils writing style she can craft great characters and enjoyable thriller reads.
