The first part or two were fun. Towards the half when I realized we weren't gonna get any deeper into linguistics she kinda lost me.

This book is so bloated with anecdotes it might as well be a memoir. While I don't mind anecdotes in nonfiction, if anything I do like them,  this was just annoying after a while and frankly I don't care about all these people she was talking to. Where is the linguistics focusd research?? oh scattered here and there at an extremely surface level but let's spend a whole chapter talking about how she and her friend she thought was more confident than her was "kidnapped" (they were not) by Scientologists.

I only enjoyed this because I listened to it. I would've probably dnfed after the first 2 parts if I read this physically

but it's also satisfying to see how much his writing has changed since then what an icon

Urban fantasy based on Filipino folklore and mythology! I think the story was really fun although alittle confuusing and disjointed at times. Some scenes reminded me of Junji Ito's work although alittle less visceral.
I didn't like the sketchy artstyle at first but it grew on me but i LOVED the colour palette here.
Was even more impressive after reading the afterwords where there were different palettes for the different worlds

Overall I enjoyed it, despite the storytelling not being as seamless as I wouldve prefered but in a way it adds to the atmosphere of the story, makes you feel like the lead character so not necessarily a bad thing. Definitely underrated. I think this would be a great animated movie too.
