Paper Doll: Notes from a Late Bloomer by Dylan Mulvaney
4.0
What a strange world to come out as a woman into. The obsessive makeup/hair/clothes obsession, all the money and excess, and the internet fame just seems like an uncanny valley. How does she figure out who she is and who she wants to be in the middle of all that artifice? This memoir is written well and I'm cheering for Dylan but somehow I'm left feeling that everything would be easier for her in a setting that was less about visual artifice.
Antisemitism in America: A Warning by Chuck Schumer

A book about antisemitism from a person who handed the country over to nazis.
Dare I Say It: Everything I Wish I'd Known About Menopause by Naomi Watts
4.75
I decided to read every book about menopause published in the last five years, and the vast majority of them are utter garbage Pollyanna propaganda. I certainly didn't expect the book written by a famous actress to be the one that covered the most aspects of peri and menopause in the most balanced and realistic way with the most medical research and the best blend of personal stories and facts, but Dare I Say It is easily the best, most readable, most realistic, most comprehensive, and kindest (without being at all maudlin) of all dozen or so books I've read.
Grass of the Earth: The Story of a Norwegian Immigrant Family in Dakota by Aagot Raaen

Calamity after calamity. It's horrible that this is a true story.
Unlock Your Menopause Type by Heather Hirsch

Three of these "types" seem to be the exact same thing, so the concept of the book seems to be a marketing gimmick. The core message seems to be that trying hormone therapy is the smart choice for symptom relief and general health.
Never: The Autobiography by Rick Astley
5.0
What a delight! Astley is honest, funny, self-deprecating, and warm as he tells us about his quest for stability after a horrible childhood of abuse and neglect. There are so many wonderful moments in his telling his own story, but the ones that made me laugh the most were his yelling "wanker!" repeatedly. I can't wait to see what he does next.
The Menopause Reset: Get Rid of Your Symptoms and Feel Like Your Younger Self Again by Mindy Pelz

Menopause Is Hot: Everything You Need to Know to Thrive by Alice Smellie, Mariella Frostrup

If this is the first book you read, having just heard about menopause, you'll think it's great. But having read other stuff about menopause, this book is tedious. So many words. Words and words and words, just for the sake of writing them. There is no new info in this book that you can't get from Jen Gunter or Mary Claire Haver, but there are tons of pointless anecdotes and discussions of treatment options without any actual data on effectiveness. By the time I got to the heading "Tending Your Lady Garden" in the chapter about sex I was just done with this egotistical overblown snoozer.
