With June in full swing and summer almost here, I needed a good laugh and a cute romance. And I found everything I needed in this book.
This is the kind of feel-good, body-positive rom-com that had me rooting for Aaliyah from page one. She’s bold, funny, and totally over the nonsense that comes with dating in your late twenties especially when the family pressure kicks in. I loved how real her journey felt, from reclaiming her confidence to figuring out what love actually looks like for her.
The chemistry between Aaliyah and Ahmad? Instant and addictive. Their banter is flirty and fun, and I couldn’t help but smile every time he showed up. It’s giving “right person, wrong timing” vibes in the best possible way.
This story isn’t just about romance—it’s about self-worth, shutting down toxic opinions (even from the people closest to you), and leaning into the love you truly deserve. If you’ve ever felt like you had to prove yourself your size, your timeline, your dating life you’ll find a kindred spirit in Aaliyah.
Perfect for your summer reading list, especially if you love confident heroines, fake dating with real feelings, some good spice and a love interest who sees you.

A bad a$$ FMC and a good quick story. This was good for being so short. I’d recommend if you want something entertaining and short.

Thank you to NetGally for providing me the ARC.
This read is dark, comical and emotional all in one. What would you do when faced with your own mortality, how would you help your spouse and children cope without you?
Find a new wife and mother for them, duh…
The story follows a fiercely determined mother who, upon learning she has only months to live, embarks on a mission to find her replacement—before someone else does it badly. What starts as an unconventional love story quickly spirals into a tension-filled exploration of legacy, trust, and control. With its unexpected twists and signature sardonic humor, the novel walks a fine line between heartbreak and hilarity.
Maggie sets out on an almost absurdly practical yet deeply heartfelt mission: finding the perfect woman to replace her in her family's life. With sharp wit and a no-nonsense attitude, she navigates grief, control, and love in a way that is both poignant and laugh-out-loud funny. If you enjoy strong, flawed heroines, a touch of twisted humor, and an exploration of what it means to truly care for those you leave behind, this book is a must-read.
Equal parts darkly funny and emotionally gripping, Don't Tell Me How to Die is a heart-wrenching, fast-paced tale of love, mortality, and one woman’s audacious plan to secure her family’s future—on her own terms.
This author has delivered a unique take on a protagonist who’s facing terminal illness not with despair, but with calculated determination.Making this more than a suspenseful ride—it's a poignant look at what we leave behind and who we become when the clock is running out.

Wow! What else can I say, I was blown away by this one.
Harlem Rhapsody is a vibrant, emotionally rich tribute to one of the most dynamic periods in American history — and to one of its most overlooked heroines, Jessie Redmon Fauset. Set in the heart of the Harlem Renaissance, this novel immerses you in a world where Black pride is bursting from the seams — in literature, music, fashion, and art — with Jessie at the center as the literary editor of The Crisis.
The story beautifully captures her discovery of voices like Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, and Nella Larsen, and paints Jessie not just as an editor, but as a visionary who helped shape a cultural revolution. Her complicated, passionate relationship with W.E.B. Du Bois adds emotional depth and conflict, showing the high stakes of ambition, desire, and legacy in a world rife with racism and sexism.
Although cheating is never the answer I can understand the charm and poise of W.E.B. Du Bois was enticing.
I was swept away by the richness of the historical detail and the humanity of Jessie’s journey. If you love character-driven historical fiction that reclaims forgotten stories and celebrates the power of Black art, this is one you must read.

It gave Clue and Murder on the Orient Express vibes!
I love books about authors, especially ones that kill. What happens when you lock up six best-selling authors for a little game of murder.
This was a twisty good time, with a semi-likeable main character with a score to settle. The tables turn quickly and leaves Mila guessing who’s behind the antics that unfold.
If you are looking for a dark, suspense filled novel that will leave you guessing to the very end this is the one.
A wonderful debut by the author, and a book you will want to re-read to see if you can find the clues the second time around.
The ending will have you gasping.

This book was fresh, with adventure on the seas, historical fantasy, and a bad a$$ FMC who’s anything but ordinary. The story unfolds with a mix of swashbuckling excitement and supernatural mystery, all set against a vivid backdrop of the Indian Ocean world that feels otherworldly.
Amina’s journey isn’t just about treasure its legacy, identity, and a past never quite stays buried.
If you’re in the mood for a sarcastic, unhinged wild pirate tale that feels authentic, magical and off the rails fun this one will check all the boxes.

When Beatriz steps onto the creepy grounds of San Isidro, the dread builds immediately. The atmosphere is thick with secrets, and the house itself feels like a main character watchful, malevolent, and unwelcoming.
This one is tense, slow burning and ominous. Beatriz is a likable character who you will root for. Then the priest, who wasn’t always holy. Padre Andrés comes to help, while harboring his own secrets. Together they try to right all the wrongs of this house.
Perfect for reading with the lights on long before bedtime.

This was powerful and emotional. Dealing heavily with the intersection of race, medicine, and bodily autonomy in 1970s Alabama. Civil Townsend, is a young Black nurse determined to make a difference. Civil uncovers the injustices faced by two young girls placed under her care.
Not at all surprising is this is inspired by real-life events. Shining a light on the systemic abuse that targeted marginalized communities under the guise of public welfare. Civil struggles with her role in the lives of these young girls and takes a stand to get justice for them and all women and girls like them.
The characters are so relatable. They could be anyone you know. This one will stay with me for a long time, as a mother a woman. It will make you question systems and beliefs on legislation and policy designed to control the rights and freedoms of others. The freedom of choice, or the illusion of choice and who holds that responsible.

Alicia doesn’t speak, not since the murder of her husband. She’s been locked away in an institution considered to be the guilty party. Is she quiet because of guilt or grief? After years have passed with no progress has been made psychotherapist Theo Farber is convinced that he can help.
He quickly becomes obsessed with unlocking her secrets. I was eager to keep reading to find out why she stopped speaking and why Theo was so sure that he could help unlock the truth and get her to talk.
This was a well paced story with a good plot and a great twist. I didn’t see coming and the ending was mind blowing.
This deals with layers of trauma, obsession, and the quiet ways people break. If you love a twisty narrative that keeps you second-guessing everyone, this one will definitely hit the mark. Giving some true crime vibes disguised as a who done it.
