Damn, I love a hot hockey player! This book is quirky and fun with great banter and steamy scenes that will fog your glasses!
After a random mishap with a dog and an elevator, pro hockey player Easton finds himself caring for a dog he's not ready to handle. When his NFL game schedule means he needs a dog sitter, a chance meeting leads him to Lilly. She is out of a job and will gladly spend her time with dogs instead of humans.
These two have instant chemistry, but neither is in a place where they can be in a relationship. But that doesn't stop the sparks between them!
I loved how organically Lilly and Easton become friends. This author didn't rush it and it makes the pay off worth it when they finally seal the deal. There are also some really good back stories here that make this book even better.
I received an ARC of this title from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

I always thoughtfully write hook reviews. Reading is so subjective. What works for one reader might resonate with another. So, it's very unusual for me to say the following: This book is really terrible.
The plot is so ridiculously implausible that it's hard to read. There are about a gazillion (that's a really technical mathematical term) plot holes and unanswered questions. This heroine is still hurt and traumatized over something that happened to her 10 years ago in high school with the hero. When we finally find out what this big trauma was it's completely stupid.
There is zero chemistry between the main characters and we get no sense as to why they are even attracted to each other. Their shared history seems to have all occurred on one day in high school. Then, the relationship we read about is built over the course of a few days in a cabin in which they talk about pretty much nothing of consequence.
It's all so far-fetched and the story is so patchy that I did not care one bit about these characters. This book just makes no sense.

I usually love Cynthia Eden, but this book was not great.
There is just no story here. It's all sub-par Spy stuff and conversations that repeat and spin in circles ad nauseam. "I won't allow you to put yourself in danger for me!" then "Well, I won't allow you to put yourself in danger for me either!" Repeat 3,000 times.
Add some sex and spies who really casually blow their own cover/really easily have their cover found out. We get no sense of emotional connection between the leads, just sexual.
This book cover is very misleading. It looks like a cover for a frothy Rom-Com and this is a dark, spy thriller with steamy sex.
If you're looking for an action packed and steamy hot romance you might really love this, but it wasn't great for me.

This is my first read by Kristen Proby and I will definitely go back for more! In fact, the second book in this series is already on my Kindle. This book starts with an absolutely epic scene on a beach where our Hero acts like a crazy person and grabs the camera from the heroine while on the beach. It's a great opener for this fun and steamy romance between these two.
I absolutely loved the banter in this book! The lead characters have great back-and-forth dialog. There are also plenty of truly sweet moments and the steamy scenes are MELT-YO-PANTIES hot!
I am so ready to spend some more time in Seattle with this series!

3.5 STARS
This book was pretty good and also pretty standard. Standard feisty heroine. Standard grumpy hero. Standard clingy ex-boyfriend. Standard family dynamics. Standard best friend from college. There's just nothing new or innovative here.
And the story is pretty darn slow. Just collections of daily tasks that have very minimal conflict. Yes, everything is moving towards an event, but it's all very mundane and we only get unsubtle hints at some conflict to come. I mean, we get a healthy dose of written out, but mostly uneventful trips to buy groceries. Is it crap? No. But it's not great either.
It's all very NICE. And, honestly, I want more than "nice". 1998-2020 has been years filled with romances that are shattering the standard. We're seeing story lines we've never seen before, main characters who are racially diverse, neuro-diverse, physically diverse, and emotionally diverse.
Some readers may still crave this kind of romance, like easy-to-watch Hallmark Christmas movies in December. But I am now expecting MORE from Contemporary Romance.

I wanted to like this book, but it was insanely slow and the characters weren't likable at all. I kept plodding along...waiting...waiting...the first kiss is at 70%. I finally gave up. There are plenty of books in the library, no need to struggle through one you're not feeling.

Damn, was this a steamy good read!
This was my first read from this series and it did really well as a stand-alone romance. I didn't feel lost or confused by the characters from previous books in the series.
I love a smart and driven heroine and Laney definitely fit the bill. She is wonderfully real and I loved her work ethic as well as passion for medicine.
Cole was a fantastic hero, if just a little too perfect. He's just 100% dreamy for every singe minute of this book and while that's very swoony, I prefer characters with some flaws. Cole delivers zero flaws and it's the only reason this book didn't earn five stars from me.
The only conflict in this book seems to be busy work schedules and Laney's reluctance to love again after loss. I wish there was a bit more for these characters to overcome.
The travel and food descriptions were amazing and the steamy scenes in this book were panty-melting hot! If you love travel, food, steam, and a very nice-guy hero then you will ADORE this book.

I'm done with this author. The first book in this series was good EXCEPT for some highly misogynistic parts. I was hoping the misogyny would not be present in this second book.
Sadly, this book was crappy and even more misogynistic.
These books have a gross amount of claiming of females. Men calling each other bitches and pussies when they show weakness. Women are constantly cooking food for these men. And women are repeatedly told to stay home while the men go do dangerous "man" stuff.
These male characters move beyond "protecting" females into "owning" females. Men can be Alpha by being strong, protective, smart, and decisive. But Alpha quickly becomes Asshole when these make characters discount women's opinions, abilities, and when they show over-the-top jealousy and control over the lives of the female characters.
