I honestly don’t know what to say other than I think I cried the second half of the book because it’s so tender and wholesome

I went back and forth on if I liked the book? Like the romance was so cute and tender but the characters themselves were so cringey and self-important. There were many times I wished I could reach out and Bart Simpson style strangle them

I think this is the first time I’ve ever read a Meg Cabot book and been like “oh god this is bad.” It was like the entire book was just a boring vessel for the two main characters having sex. How was it? I don’t know! After the act was done the man said “you’re like an Olympic athlete of sex.” I wish I was kidding. It felt like dear Meggin was really phoning it in— like she’s already a bazillionaire from her good books, so at this point she’s lazily turning them out. The characters each had like 2 defining traits (horny/artist for Bree and horny/angry for Drew).

This book started off as ABSOLUTE GIBBERISH!!! I had no idea what it was going in. I have absolutely zero recollection of requesting this from the library, it just showed up on my kindle like a ghost. I’m so glad that instead of putting it down I read like, 2/5s of it in one sitting because otherwise I wouldn’t have finished it.

Once you get past the world building (there’s a LOT) it gets really good. Like, to the point where I would be doing other things and wishing I was reading this book instead. If you’re good with heavy and dark fantasy novels like this, I think you’ll like this book.

Also I want Serapio and Xiala to kiss more

I like the premise of the book (fake dating to real crush), and it was super cute to notice how they slowly fell in actual love with each other!!! I feel like I haven't seen a fake dating set-up be queer like this before, especially since one of the girls isn't out to her parents.

The pacing of the book was kinda weird tho, with incredibly short chapters and indiscriminate time jumps. The characterizations were kinda weird too, like "ooh one is popular and the other is a nerd" but the popular one was just kind and kinda shy? Like she didn’t talk to anyone besides her parents and two friends. And the nerd was a massive bitch. There was really no time for character development, more like there was just a light switch that flipped in each

This is a Hades/Persephone retelling which I didn't realize when I requested it in august. It was fine? I guess? Like it was supposed to be some smutty book, but I can't stop focusing on the rules of the world. Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon are passed though bloodlines but Demeter is democratically elected? Persephone wants to go to UC Berkeley, so the current day US exists? Because I think it takes place in Olympia, Washington? Persephone makes a reference to a Catholic Saint, so even though they're the "gods" Catholicism exists? Also, Hades is like "waaah I rule through fear" and that fear is created by... holding sex parties. I'm so confused I read the entire thing in less than a day. Star Wars exists in the cannon as well???

Listen, it was cute!! There was romance!!! It takes place in Michigan!!!

These characters are functioning alcoholics, but in the sense where I’m concerned that the author herself is a functioning alcoholic because the characters think their constant drinking is cute and quirky?? Like oh my god, all they do is drink. To the point where I couldn’t focus on anything else?? Nonstop. January drank wine out of her PURSE
