Ima Koi: Now I'm in Love, Vol. 5 by Ayuko Hatta

"I'll make you fall for me all over again."
This still remains one of my favorites. Yagyu and Satomi are so sweet they make my heart ache in the best way. This series speaks to the younger, misunderstood me who was never as brave or as kind as Satomi. Yagyu is definitely the "cool," and "aloof," high school heartthrob but Satomi is the genuinely loveable character. The way that Yagyu never fails to see that or see her makes my heart all gooey.

"Like a shot to the heart."
This volume focuses more on the plot and growth rather than mature content but it is still present.
I love Yiyoung and Kang! Their story is so sweet and I'm so excited every time a new volume of this drops. This series takes Grumpy-Sunshine to a whole new level for me and watching the characters navigate those vulnerable spaces together has me addicted.

“But women aren’t broken versions of men; they’re women.”
This book was really eye opening and I'm glad I crossed paths with it. I have had a lot of trauma wrapped up in my sexuality but most of it has never had a name. Halfway through this book I had an epiphany and it snowballed until so many things began to make sense. So many things I never knew because our culture finds it taboo to educate people about their own bodies. If we are never taught that it's important, how are we supposed to know? I'm happy my journey in life led me to understand that it is important and that I took the steps to understand myself more. I'm not saying this is a cure all, I'm just saying it definitely provided the context I needed to know what direction to take next.

"You told me exactly what I needed to hear."
I really like the premise and the vibe of this story, it was just a really heavy first step. It definitely felt like an everything all at once kind of situation and didn't give me any big emotions one way or another. But I found a lot of things to hold onto through the volume, such as the characters and the overall mystery and direction of the story. I will definitely be checking out volume 2!

...You know I understand that there are a lot of things you can add and shed light on to add to a plot. However, one tidbit that the author felt was somehow necessary to mention on the first page was telling enough for me. Reading the reviews and seeing it had nothing to do with the plot, I'm glad I immediately stepped away.

I really couldn't get into this story. I wasn't sure what to expect out of it but the longer I tried to go with it the more I felt myself forcing my way through it. The writing and the premise seem really cool which leaves me confused as to why I put it down. I may try to circle back to it in the future.

"Mortals decay. Lost boys never die."
This was a much needed fast-paced snack. There are a lot of familiar names in here but it is definitely it's own unique story. I'm a sucker for anti-heroes who go wild over the person they are fixating over and this definitely delivered that for me. I look forward to reading on through the series and seeing where else they go with it.

"Don't believe the truths told to you by the light. The brightness you're used to casts the most vicious shadows."
I had been waiting to read this book for a while but already knew I was obsessed with it. I really enjoyed the world, the creatures, the magic system and the characters as well. Arioch and Aheia are all hard edges and seem to be the only ones able to wear each other down. I cannot wait for the next book in July. The ending is what made it for me, my little chaotic heart was just reveling in it. A lot of this book was beautifully chaotic. I appreciate that most because I can usually suss out what's going to happen fairly early on. It was a wonderfully stressful dark romance and that is my sweet spot. I just have to figure out what to do until July. 😅😅😅

"When we compare a man in action and a girl in action, I feel girls are more gallant. - Hayao Miyazaki"
I have been so excited to read this book ever since I saw it about a year ago. It happened to cross my path again this year so I took that as a sign that it was time. What drew me to this book originally was the idea of taking Miyazaki's work and using it to update an incorrect and outdated idea, rather than tearing it apart. Don't get me wrong, Joseph Campbell's super sexist point of view of women and their role in relation to the hero's monomyth really makes me want to tear it apart, but Scally has found a way to do that in a much more professional manner. (Any suggestions that it was, "just normal at that time," will immediately be directed to my trash can. Just because it was the "norm," doesn't make it right.) Going through, you get a breakdown of a lot of great Miyazaki characters as well as stories and how he consistently bends the stereotypes and proves them wrong. I feel any Miyazaki fan would enjoy reading this. I have obsessively consumed his films for years and I still learned many things about the films while reading through this book.

"If you and I really, truly wanted to change the world, we’d invent more words that started with x."
This was a buddy read for me. It was quick, refreshing, and I really resonated with a lot of the feelings projected in this collection. I felt that a lot of the themes in this book are an accurate representation of all kinds of poignant moments in a relationship. Not to say that we have all experienced every one of the emotions portrayed in the story but I think a lot of us have. It felt like I got to sit down with someone and vibe, relating experiences.
