Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
4.0
Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of this book!
Summary: Kirie is different. She can manipulate and control light, but thanks to her mother, her light has been kept in the shadows her whole life-until now. When Kirie’s abilities are discovered by a group determined to eliminate light from the world, she will have to come out of the shadows and let her light show.
What I loved:
-the history brought into the book and story
-Kirie’s interest in helping others, not hurting them
-Luca/Kirie’s connection
-The light vs dark theme
What I hated:
-Kirie was a bit immature for her age of 17 (calling her mom “mommy” and asking very basic questions)
-French phrases were used but there wasn’t a translation
Summary: When Synali decides to take revenge against her father, she doesn't have the hope to survive another day; however, when she is saved by an unexpected person, she starts down a journey that will change the future of humanity.
Spice Rating: (0/5 peppers)
What I loved:
Multiple POVs that keep you on your toes
The mysterious vibes throughout the book as Synali slowly uncovers the truth
The relationship development and character development throughout
Heavenbreaker
The definitions at the beginning of the chapters
What I hated:
The beginning was hard to follow, trying to figure out who was saying what
The cliffhanger ending
Favorite quotes:
I have learned that when fear bites, you must bite back, or it will eat you whole.
One does not need to be routinely intelligent to achieve victory, Synali-one merely needs to strike when their opponent blunders.
The pawn is the only piece that refuses to move backward.
There are things in this universe that do not die; they only change their names.
They can choose to kill you. But you are the only one who can choose to live.
Summary: Fourth Wing follows Violet Sorrengail, a scribe by training turned dragon rider cadet thanks to her mother, a General at Basgiath War College. Her journey to ride or die brings a surprising romance with a sworn enemy of her mother, Xaden Riorson, after she bonds to the dragon mated to Xaden’s dragon tethering their lives to one another. As their year progresses, secrets are unveiled that expand beyond the War College which change Violet’s life forever.
What I loved:
-The dragons. I love them all, but I have a special place in my heart for Andarna
-Xaden and Violet’s romance. I love them so much and their spicy scenes were well done
-The plot twists. The foreshadowing throughout the book was well done and some of the things said early in Fourth Wing reflect back into Iron Flame.
-Liam. *still crying*
-The foreshadowing. Writing this after reading Iron Flame, there was so much intentionality in the writing of this book that makes a re-read after reading book 2 a whole new adventure.
What I hated:
-Dain existed.
-We didn’t get to spend as much time with the dragons as I would have liked.
-World building was a bit lacking, but acceptable given this is book 1 of 5.
