Catch and Keep by Erin Hahn

my first fishing romance, and I have to say, it didn’t completely give. the first half of the book was a bit slow and lacking that attention grabbing moment. but once you hit the second half of the book, the pace picks up. you fall in love with the main characters, maren and joe. there are also a few spicy moments that grab your attention as well! this was an older brothers friend romance, friends to lovers. overall, it was a quick read, less than 300 pages, and there were enjoyable moments.
It Had to Be You by Beth Moran
3.0
starting off with I absolutely enjoy beth moran’s books and the writing style. They are typically a little longer and maybe even overly detailed, but they are such wholesome and realistic books and characters that is very easy to read.
it had to be you focused was not your typical romance. it can be a harder read because of all the real life representation going on - toxic/unhealthy family relationships, broken family, social services and the foster care system, divorce and not having a handle on life. while the book could be condensed, following along libby’s trials as she gains back a hold on her life and household was interesting to read. I love the past and present telling because you really are able to understand what lead to the current day situations.
the book did end happily, as beth moran’s typically do. libby was able to mend her broken relationship with her mom, jonah and libby did have a second chance at love and a life together, and libby was also able to get a grasp on her life and structure with parenting.

The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith

beautifully written, I ate up every page of this book. so much hurt, pain, trauma. definitely check the triggers before reading. this book is so moving and a spot on representation of what trauma can do to someone, especially a teenager maneuvering life and changes through high school, friends and relationships.
edy experiences a devastating trauma during her early teenage years, freshman in high school, and goes through the next three years battling her inner demons. completely changing who she is, she becomes a promiscuous teenager, abusing alcohol and drugs, wrecking her friendships and relationships with others all as she’s finding a way to cope with what she’s been through. she finally finds a sense of peace when she opens up and tells the truth, sharing her story.
tw - rape, addiction, drug use, promiscuity

Her Pretty Lies by Angela Henry

this book has so many twists and turns! it will definitely keep you on your toes and questioning everything. the beginning was a little confusing because there are different starting points and characters, but once you get past that point, it gets so much easier to follow. the book also gives a hint of frieda mcfadden stories!
The Sunflower House: A Novel by Adriana Allegri

if you’re a fan of historical fiction books and the handmaid’s tale, this is definitely a book you should read! I loved every page from start to finish. so many times I wanted to burst out in tears from the obstacles being presented and the love that was still very present during a time of so much difficulty. it was so eye opening, because while it is fictional, the historical aspects where very realistic and inspiration taken from the truth of our history.
The Seamstress of Auschwitz: A WWII Historical Fiction Novel by C. K. McAdam, C. K. McAdam
4.0
lately I’ve been falling back into reading more historical fictions, especially surrounding the holocaust and World War II. it’s a time period in history that’s always been very interesting and devastating to me, to witness the amount of loss and destruction brought on by people. reading through sara’s story was so saddening yet full of hope.
the seamstress of auschwitz was a shorter book on Sara, following her and her family as they were brought to concentration camps. they depended heavily on their skills as seamstresses to survive their time at auschwitz, creating fashionable outfits for the wives of officers. sara finds love amidst the destruction, and when the war is over, she embarks on a journey of not only finding herself again, but finding her love in palestine. eventually, sara learns he didn’t make it to their meeting point, but his friend does who retells their journey. sara ultimately is able to get to america, where she has family awaiting her arrival and can provide safety and a new life for her.

Not a Happy Family by Shari Lapena

as much as I wanted to enjoy this book, I honestly didn’t. it was definitely a murder mystery where it seems everyone in the family could have done it. there were so many secrets, lies, past trauma and deception with everyone that you really couldn’t figure out who did it because everyone seemed like the perfect suspect! I do feel like the story and mystery was drawn out longer than it needed to be. and it’s not until the very last few pages that you find out who did it.
not gonna lie, I did come close to dnf-ing this one. but I was a little intrigued to find out who did it. the pro to the book was there are short chapters, which I loved!

Second Time's the Charm by Stephanie Rose

a spicy romance was everything I needed to get me out of a mini slump! loved every moment of this book!
after two high school sweethearts break up before college, they find themselves back together at their school reunion. and that’s where the magic starts. watching emily and jesse rekindle their love after so many years, amongst all the trials and tribulations of life, was so heart warming. while there were so many past feelings on emily’s part of getting back with jesse, she realized he was always the one for her.
