I think this book was WAY too long and could have been shorter. If this book were to remain the 600+ pages, I would have liked for it to have encapsulated Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. That would have made more sense. ⠀
⠀
I wish I was able to read Edward’s thoughts when Jacob Black started encroaching and messing with Bella’s feelings, and so on, but it didn’t. Now that I’m older, I see that some of Edward’s thoughts were not...”respectful,” and I mean that by stalking Bella, etc.⠀
⠀
Did I love Edward’s perspective? Yes. Did I love reliving my middle school book preferences? Yes. Am I still Team Edward? Always. ⠀
⠀
I knew the storyline and it wasn’t groundbreaking for me, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I enjoyed learning more about the Cullen’s and I definitely prefer Edward’s POV compared to Bella’s. I just feel like there could have been more depth to this one. ⠀

What would you do if you found a house at the bottom of a lake? Would you dive down to investigate or keep on paddling? Well, Amelia and James decided to check it out. This discovery turns into obsession and adrenaline for these 17-year olds in the height of summer. ⠀

I was gifted this by NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - thank you!⠀
⠀
This is the first Josh Malerman novel that I have ever read. Malerman is also the author of “Bird Box.” ⠀
⠀
I wasn’t very impressed with this story, and I HATE saying that- I really do. Any questions that I had about the plot never got answered, and this novel helped me realize that I’m not a fan of “water horror.” If that kind of thing is something that you’re in to, then I recommend this book. It was a quick read; I finished it in 24 hours between everyday life. ⠀
⠀
The way Malerman writes is different, so it was nice to see that change of pace. I could not get over the buildup of the story twist to then feel like it was just a small ripple in a lake (pun intended). Just didn’t live up to my expectation, and that’s okay! It may be a favorite to someone else, but just not to me.

TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE by Ellen McGarrahan⠀
⠀
I was gifted an ARC e-copy of this through #NetGalley. This book is to be published on February 2, 2021.⠀
⠀
Jesse Tafero has been wrongfully accused of murdering two police officers at a rest stop. Ellen, a reporter turned private investigator, becomes infatuated with this case after seeing Jesse die by electric chair. ⠀
⠀
Unfortunately, I had to DNF this book. The pacing of this was soooo slooooow. The author spent more time talking about herself and her life than the actual case itself. ⠀
⠀
I got halfway through this and it still felt stagnant. With this being the second book that has disappointed me, I’m hoping this doesn’t become a bad reading streak.

Tom Kennedy, and his son, Jake, move to a new town after the death of Jake’s mother. Becoming acclimated to a new town is hard for him; even harder when young boys go missing in town. ⠀

Please be aware that I have listed trigger warnings at the bottom of this post for those who may be interested in picking this novel up. ⠀
⠀
“The Whisper Man” is a chilling fiction thriller that follows multiple POVs, which makes the flow of the story so much better. I thought I was able to figure out “whodunnit,” and each time I thought I had it, I was blindsided. The pacing was great; I thought it wasn’t too slow and wasn’t too fast. The only thing I wish it had more of was the thrills. While it was suspenseful, I wish it had more scary scenes. ⠀
⠀
This is the first novel of Alex North’s that I have picked up, and I know it won’t be the last. ⠀
⠀
TW: abduction, death, alcoholism, abuse⠀

SALVATION STATION by Kathryn Schleich ⠀
⠀
A dedicated police captain becomes wrapped up in a murder of two young children and their pastor father. When Linda becomes obsessed in figuring out what happened to the family, she is also “placed” in a mission to expose a religious organization as being a fraud. ⠀
⠀
As Kathryn Schleich’s debut novel, I found this to be quite interesting and not something I would have thought that I would be sucked in to. The only issue I have is the way the POVs transition. I found myself having to really focus more on where I was in the book and who we were following. Despite that, I enjoyed this! ⠀
Thank you so much to Book Publicity Services for reaching out to me with a copy of this novel.
