This book was a bundle of genres (fantasy, magical realism, sci-fi, self-help and more). I was hesitant to read this due to mixed reviews and not knowing if this would be something I'd enjoy.
But! I loved the concept of this book, how between life and death, you'd first end up at The Midnight Library where endless books are filled with infinite possibilities of how your life could have turned out if only you made a different decision.
This book was really thought-provoking and I definitely have wondered a lot about how different my life would have been if only I did or didn't make certain decisions.
As someone who suffers greatly from mental health disorders, this book touched me, spoke to me, and made me teary-eyed. I could relate to Nora's pain, regrets, worries, and feelings.

“Some people criticized horror films for their ghastly depictions of violent behavior, but the fake terrors of the silver screen paled in comparison to what real-world psychopaths were capable of.”
This debut novel will definitely give you slasher film vibes and is made for spooky season! I enjoyed the script snippets of all 9 Reaper movies and the dual POV of Howard (the OG Reaper) and Trevor (the new and younger Reaper).
The level of graphic content was just right for a slasher book! But TW: animal abuse. Please make sure to look up the rest of the trigger warnings.
I loved the idea of this book and think this would make a great movie!

« It was witches we were threatened with as children by our parents if we didn’t go to bed. Witches would enchant us, boil our innards or shoot us with a fairy dart, and hand us over to the Devil. »
This book has SO much to offer:
• all the witchy elements - spells, runes, shapeshifting
• Scottish folklore and history of witch hunts
• a book within a book
• small island mystery
• sister love
• multiple POVs
• dual timelines
• dark, gothic atmosphere
I would have read this in one sitting, but I did NOT want this book to end. And truly, this never happens to me! Cooke's writing made things come to life, reading this book was like watching a movie and I loved everything about it!!
I was hooked from beginning to end and even the author’s note was compelling! This is one of those books you finish and immediately go back to page one, because it all makes sense. Full circle, y’all!

"Sometimes we love monsters without knowing that's what they are."
I went into this one completely blind and was very surprised with the outcome! I listened to the audiobook and wished I had the hard copy to easily go through the previous pages I'd read. Nevertheless, great audiobook and narration!
Feeney's storytelling in this one is top notch. I was able to easily imagine the stormy, isolated house on the tiny island, the way the rooms looked, I could feel the vibes and atmosphere in Nana's house. The poems were a great touch which made the story even more intriguing.
I didn't see the ending coming, though while I thought it was bold move, I ended up not fully loving it due to having read two books in the last month that had a similar plot twist.
"..but we are all just children masquerading as the adults we thought we should become."

This was a huge case of “don’t judge a book by its cover/synopsis” because I most definitely did it with this one.. I expected something ENTIRELY different to what I ended up reading. The synopsis made it sound like the book’s focus would be the locked attic which is why I imagined this to be a locked room mystery/thriller with an attic setting. If this book is giving you the same vibes, you might want to either go into this with an open mind or even better, completely blind.
If this book wasn’t short and I wasn’t invested in Danny’s POV, I most likely would have DNF this one. The story itself was anticlimactic, several aspects predictable, and the multiple jumps into different timelines made it messy.
Unfortunately, this book just was not for me.

My first read by Tudor and while this was “just” a collection of short stories, I definitely can’t wait to dive into her other books!
Each short story had an introduction with details on what lead the author to write that specific story, which I thought was a pretty cool way to look inside Tudor’s brain!
My faves:
- End of the Liner
- The Block (SO creepy, I had to stop reading at night
