I think we all know by now how much I loved the first two books in this series (both 5 stars for me), but this one just didn’t quite meet my expectations. The ending was great, everything made sense, but it felt a tad forced and maybe a bit rushed? Like I get they had been leading up to it for a while, but then right at the end the whole plan changes and it somehow works then everyone lives happily ever after? I don’t know, there was just something about it that felt a little off to me. However, I still truly loved this series! I loved learning more about the fates and seeing them be more prevalent in the plot. I also loved how Scarlett finally got more of a character arc and held a more important role in the story. Unlike the first two books in the series, this one focuses more on relationships, the past, the future, and love. I think this may also be a part of why this one fell slightly flat for me - the first two books had magic, illusion, and gripping confusion that made me physically unable to put the book down, whereas this one didn’t really suck me in the way I thought it would.
Overall, I would still absolutely recommend this series!! Honestly, one of my more recent favorites! Excited to move onto OUABH now hehe

I really enjoyed Levi and Wylie’s story! Their banter was BANTERING! Wylie was so sassy and bold - really loved her character and her independence. I loved how despite everything, she would do whatever it takes to follow her passion. She really went on a mini self discovery subplot to recognize her worth and what she deserves and I am so here for it. The torture she put Levi through was hilarious and had me actually chuckling out loud. This whole book was SPICY - like do not read around other people who might get a glimpse at your page spicy. Normally, I am very picky about the super spicy reads, but this one was done perfectly - wasn’t cringey or overbearing and everything made sense with the plot. Levi was on a whole other level - he was 110% obsessed with Wylie, lowkey kinky, hilarious, and such a good friend to his teammates. Overall, go read this immediately if you want a playful, steamy sports romance with phenomenal MC’s!! This was actually my first read by Meghan Quinn and I will be going back to read the rest of the Vancouver Agitators ASAP!!

Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica

Final Rating: 3/5⭐️
Local Woman Missing is about two women and a child who went missing within 10 days of each other from the same neighborhood 11 years prior. In the present, the child returns after escaping captivity and questions surrounding the initial disappearances resurface.
There is really only one positive for me here: I did not expect the plot twist at the end, however I do tend to purposefully remain ignorant when I read thrillers- I try to not guess what’s going to happen, so even if it’s obvious I’ll be surprised and the book won’t be a waste of time. I feel like that’s what happened here- had I been paying closer attention I likely would have guessed at least who did what. The plot twist itself was pretty juvenile and feels overdone imo. The worst part about this read for me was the writing style - I almost DNF’ed after the first part (which was the worst), luckily it did slightly get better, but not by much. Every POV is written in a different narration style (second person was so annoying) and the sentence structure is rudimentary at best. I was a tad confused by the three characters that narrated the story (Kate, Meredith, and Leo), and I feel like this would have been a much more enjoyable story had it been told from other POV’s (like the villain, the little girl, or even Shelby). Speaking of Shelby, I feel like her side of the story left a lot of loose ends that would have added significant depth to the story had they been explored. Rating it 3 out of 5 because I did kind of enjoy it while reading, but after sitting with it for a few days things just don’t add up. If I keep thinking about this book, my rating is going to be even lower so I am gonna stop here.

Initial Final Rating: 4/5⭐️
I started this book because I wanted an easy, fun read in between my fantasy reads and hazelwood gave me just that with this one! I liked the exploration of chess and Mallory learning her insecurities/faults throughout the novel. The nuances of her family dynamic were perfectly captured by hazelwood. I do wish we would have seen more of Nolan, but the parts he was involved in were so cute! Overall, super quick light-hearted read perfect for breaking up a fantasy streak when you need a break!
edit: changing my final rating to 3.5/4 after thinking about it more. I think the reason I rated higher in the beginning was because this book was exactly what I was looking for at the time (a quick/light/short read in between long fantasy books) and had I read this at a different time, my rating likely would have been lower.

Alicia Berenson shoots her husband in the face five times and then never speaks another word. Theo, a psychotherapist, is determined to help her find her voice and unravel the mystery surrounding her decisions.
Enjoyed this one slightly more than I thought I would!! I saw a lot of people say it was very slow but I couldn’t disagree more! I think the pacing was perfect and the short chapters made me not want to put it down!! I was not expecting the plot twist at the end, but it did lose a star because I felt there were a lot of plot holes/loose ends that could have made the story more interesting had they been explored in more detail. The author intentionally throwing red herrings in there to try and throw us off, but not actually tying up those plot lines was slightly annoying. If you’re going to introduce a character and give them motivations, at least make it make sense in the end.

Spoiler
I was not expecting Alicia to actually have killed Gabriel. I know the author specifically told us she did in the beginning, but I figured it was a trick. I will likely go back and re-read this at some point because I know there is a ton of extra stuff i’d pick up on after knowing the final twist.

*disclaimer: I have only read the first book and am posting this before continuing with the series*
↬Plot:
↬A young huntress, responsible for providing for her ungrateful sisters and useless father, kills a wolf in the woods that turns out to be fae. A beast then comes to demand retribution by way of the treaty, requiring a life for a life, so he holds her captive in the land of the fae to make amends. There she realizes that everything she previously believed about faeries was not true and begins to develop feelings for her captor.
↬Thoughts:
↬I really enjoyed this one! I wasn’t sure how I would feel about a beauty and the beast retelling, but this one was very intriguing and starts to stray away from the original story near the end. It was sort of slow at first, but it honestly didn’t really bother me that much because I knew to expect the pacing from other stuff I'd seen. It still kept me engaged most of the time I was reading it-but oh boy did it pick up after the second half. As soon as Rhysand was introduced i was hooked!!
↬Characters:
↬Feyre: I really liked her character arc in this novel! She has such a deep sense of selflessness, but also starts to realize that what she wants is equally as important towards the end of the novel. Such a strong, amazing female lead.
↬Rhysand: At first I was like,, don’t come for tamlin!! Literally GASPED when but then after I was hooked on him. So excited to see how that all develops in the later books! His chemistry with Feyre makes me kick my feet and i'm so excited to see how this impacts the plot later on!!
↬Tamlin: Honestly I was so confused with Tam for the majority of the book because I know that everyone hates him for some reason?? Assuming he does something unforgivable in later books, but for this book I really liked him! I thought his love for Feyre was super sweet and genuine and was rooting for them pretty much the whole time.
↬Lucien: I grew to love Lucien over the course of this book. He gave me annoying younger brother vibes at the beginning, but loved how his relationship with Feyre developed by the end.
However, one thing (which may be trivial) that sort of bothered me was that the answer to the riddle seemed a little cliche? like that was my first thought but then i was like surely it can’t be that easy,, i get the significance to the plot but idk i just wasn’t impressed with that.
Overall, I think this was SUCH a strong start to the series and I am beyond excited to continue! If I already loved the first one and everyone says this is their least favorite, then I am sure the next ones are going to blow my mind. I would highly recommend if you're looking for a book with a great plot line, a very intriguing and complex fae world, strong fmc, and palpable chemistry between mc’s!

*not going to go into depth on the plot here bc I don’t want to give spoilers* *also disclaimer: i have only read the first two books so character opinions may change later on*
↬Thoughts:
↬omFG where do I even start?? I totally get what everyone was saying - ACOMAF is THAT GIRL. The whole speed of the series changes here and really starts to take off! My perceptions of the characters COMPLETELY changed in this book and I am fully obsessed with Rhys and am hereby enforcing a zero tolerance rule for slander against him. The love story builds beautifully throughout this novel and is prob tied for my favorite of all time! There is so much about this book that I love - it truly makes you feel everything deep down to your core, feel nostalgic for a place you’ve never been, and fall in love with the story and the characters (at least most of them - hate is more accurate for the others). I also really enjoyed how we got such an elaborate expansion to the original world built in ACOTAR - the universe really expands in this one and I loved the level of detail added to the Night Court!
↬Characters:
↬Feyre: Feyre darling, I am so so proud of you. I was so worried about her in the beginning, but her character arc through the novel is absolutely amazing. She transforms from this shell of a being into one of the most powerful fmc’s. She finds herself (with a little help and encouragement hehe) and really starts to move toward her full potential in this novel. I am so excited to see her continue to grow in the next books!!
↬Rhysand: I literally have no words except that I am utterly obsessed. He really moved the bar higher for men everywhere. The way he treats feyre - so gentle, yet so protective and fierce. He is selfless and will do anything for the people he loves and I love him for it.
↬Mor & Azriel: Really hoping for more context around these two later in the series! There is so much potential here. Love the grumpy x sunshine vibes.
↬Amren: I love the mystery around her character! Excited to see her story unfold!
↬Cassian: I love the energy Cassian brings to the group!! The banter between all of them is so heartwarming and I love that he would die to protect any of them. So excited to see his love story play out too hehe
↬Tamlin: I actually hate him. My opinion of him completely shifted from the first book to the second, but I honestly kind of expected this. I also expected the twist involving him at the end. However, as much as I hate what he did, at least he stayed true to his character. He always let his fear of losing Feyre and his toxic masculinity dictate his actions and this was at least consistent till the end.
↬Lucien: I actually am so disappointed in him. I mean, on one hand I can’t fault him for his loyalty, but on the other hand - he knows dang well what is right and what is wrong. He doesn’t have the guts to do anything about it and I lost some respect for him in this one tbh.
↬Overall I really loved this one with my whole heart & wanted to reread it immediately after finishing it. I will forever be chasing the feeling this book gave me

First Class Romance by Camille Hope
4.0
Tropes: Holiday romance (Christmas), grumpy x sunshine, travel in paris, insta love, spice
Final Rating: 3.5/5⭐️
This was a very light, cute rom-com that follows Emy, a flight attendant, and Jackson, the lucky guy who sat in Emy’s section on a flight to Paris on Christmas Eve. The overall story was enjoyable; I liked the travel theme and touristy first date. These two were very insta-love, pretty much love at first sight, which led to an extremely fast-paced read. I think it would be perfect as a palate cleanser in between denser novels.
The reason this book lost a little bit of stars for me was because it was written in third person, but the chapters were set up like it was going to be in each characters POV? And throughout the book there were a few instances where it would randomly shift to first person for a sentence or a paragraph. This made reading it really confusing at times because when the characters would show up in the same chapter, you would get both of their thoughts/feelings. However, this was just my personal take & I highly encourage everyone to read bc the story is super cute!!

This one was so cute!! Loved the story line, but it did lose a star for me because I feel like the plot could have been fleshed out a little bit more. There were instances that the characters kinda just grazed over an important topic when I thought it was something that needed a bit more communication However, overall it was a very enjoyable read! I liked the characters and there were big moments I was not expecting! Also, loved the way Maya (and just her character in general tbh) supported them throughout the whole thing!! Will definitely read more from Lola in the future<3
