***I do my reviews in the form of questions***

What made me pick this book up:
I like anything creepy, anything ghosts, anything horror. I had been wanting to read this book for years because the cover just looks so creepy.

What did I like about the cover:
It just screams creepy. Creepy girl? Check. Bloody white dress? Check. Dark ominous background? Check. I absolutely love the girl on the swing made of thorns. I would love to do a photo shoot based just on this book cover.

What made me read this book?
I had decided to try out audiobooks because Jenn had been bugging me to try for a long time. I noticed that this book was on our audible and it was one of the shortest books on there. So for my first audiobook, I thought this would be perfect.

What did I like the most?
It was definitely very creepy. From the moment she saw the first ghost in the book I wanted to keep listening. Then when she saw her foster sister's ghost, I just had to find out what happened to her. The relationship between the main character and her friend Officer Dan was amazing. I would have just read a book based on them, and honestly, I don't normally like that kind of book. I think one of my favorite parts of the book, was also the mystery about what happened to her with her mom. It had been years since I read what the book was about and when I was listening she kept talking about something that happened to her when she was young, and the way the author described it was perfect. I was staring off into space just listening to it and imaging. I can only imagine what my face must have looked like.

What didn't I like:
Her boyfriend, he isn't in the book much, but I really didn't like him. Or her friend. She was annoying. As far as the audio, it took me a little while to get used to being read to, and to her switching voices. When she does the voice for Mattie's best friend, it is really really really high pitched and annoying, but she's barely in the book so it's bearable. Otherwise, she's good at making sure you know who is who and she reads at a good pace.

Would I read the rest of the series:
Yes absolutely!

I really enjoyed listening to this. It gave me feels, it made me laugh, it made me want to read more and more. Even once I found out whodunit, I kept wanting more and more. I cannot wait to read the next books.

“We all have that inner fear of the dark, no matter how old we get. It’s an ingrained instinct to fear the velvety blackness of the night, of things you can’t quite see, but know deep down in your bones is there, waiting.” ― Apryl Baker, The Ghost Files

I really enjoyed this book. A tale of ghosts, non believers, love and loss. A teenage girl trying to navigate her way in the world while seeing ghosts when nobody else does.
this is not my usual read but it was a quick and easy read. perfect for young adults too.

this wasn't what I expected at all! I'm usually not a big fan of thriller but this book has such an amazing plot and it made me a little scared to sleep at night haha! this book + colleen hoover's verity has helped me open up to new genres! The first couple of chapters dragged on and it was a little boring but after the mirror boy appeared, I was hooked. Also, FUCK JAKE AND THE OLSENS. The only reason why I'm giving this a 4 instead of 5 is because Mattie is annoying! It might be because she's a sixteen-year-old girl and I couldn't really connect with her. I really like Eric! I hope i see him more in the next book!

This book is a good example of why I still plough through the many less than ideal free e-books available. Because every now and then you come across a good one like this, and if you're lucky it leads you to a new series. I liked Mattie and I was quite pleased that the relationship between Mattie and Dan was not a romantic one (given that Dan is adopted I am actually wondering if Mattie & Dan are related in some fashion - perhaps half sibs through Mattie's unnamed father). I thought Mattie's lack of trust in pretty much everyone was very believable given her life experiences to date but it is nice that Dan is there for her. What I found a little odd was Mattie's romantic prospects. First there is boyfriend Jake and it seemed as though he was going to be the one when Dan and Mattie weren't attracted to one another that way ( and Mattie on numerous occasions stated there was no tinlgle with Dan like there was with Jake).
Spoiler but then suddenly Jake is no longer on the table and we have Dan's college friend Mason who appears and disappears just as quickly , only to be replaced weirdly by ghost Eric as one of 2 people who make Mattie feel safe - even though he was the ghost that attacked her and a far as I can tell they didn't have a relationship in life. Odd
Spoiler I am really hopong Dan & Mattie are related so the no romance thing continues but if they are not hen I am expecting they will get together. Oh and I totally didn't guess who the killer was which is a nice change for me.

I love this book! Every chapter was intense, and I'm glad I read it! It kept me guessing who was behind it all when things didn't add up. Great cliffhanger as well! This book had romance and action! I can't wait for the next book to see what happens! :D

Cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I could not put this one down. I usually write that for many of my reviews recently but I am picky with what I read, if the plot or reviews about the book from other readers/people aren't what I would be interested in I wouldn't have even started reading it. But ghosts and supernatural themes intrigue me.

I would never of guessed the ending which is what I loved about this novel. It sort of reminded me of Psycho and Sybil (old classic films), only somewhat. The main protagonists were all loved, and easy to relate too. This was definitely worth the 5 stars I have given it.

Not your average ghost story

I liked the premise of this story. The writing itself not as much. There was a lot of repetition and explanations about some events were thin.

The storyline was awesome. The writing was juvenile.

I really wish I could give this book 5 stars, but there were so many times I literally rolled my eyes while reading it. How many times do we need to know Officer Dan has "liquid eyes"? How many times does it need to be said Dr. Olivet "can really tell a story"?

I found the plot to be refreshing and interesting, but it was a struggle to push through the poor writing and editing. I would still recommend the book to anyone interested in the genre, and will likely give book 2 a shot.
