There are some pieces of good info in this book, but overall it was confusing, her writing was disjointed. There were many time where the information was contradictory… fructose is bad don’t have it, but you should have fructose AND glucose for a variety of absorption rates. So… ??

Life-changing book with information that should be mainstream! It's half frustrating to go through life not knowing this information, and half exciting to put it into practice!

This book is full of great information on nutrition and fitness for a woman. It was an incredibly educational read. I've done a few things differently in my fitness and nutrition routine as a result of listening to this book. However, the downside to Sims's breadth of knowledge is that not all will be relevant to every reader.

Roar aims to be your comprehensive guide to fitness and nutrition strategy for female athletes. Her guiding principle is that "women are not small men" and that we must stop following guidance and studies based on male physiology. Instead, she encourages her athletes to leverage their unique female physiology to increase their performance.

I appreciate how Sims breaks down the female hormone cycle and other key aspects of physiology. There are some key aspects of her advice that really resonated with me. For example, I have stopped intermittent fasting since reading this book.

An unfortunate side effect of covering so much information is that there will be sections of this book that seem irrelevant to where you are at your current stage of life. There was a large amount of information for women older than me that went in one ear and out the other as I was listening.

Overall, I thought this was a good primer on fitness books. If you're looking for something specific this isn't it, but this is a great overview of where to start with optimizing your fitness as a woman.

Quite informative with some surprising advice (according to Sims' research) regarding training as a woman. Not all recommendations are completely practical for non-elite athletes, but most of the guidelines are really useful.

I really wanted to like this more than I did. There are some good nuggets here (the insight on how performance relates to menstrual cycle is a standout, and I will definitely try the pee stick thing!), but not enough for me to really change a ton of what I do. For a good that's supposed to make science jargon related to exercise physiology and nutrition accessible, there was still a lot of challenging concepts that were difficult for the science-challenged person like myself. Also, and this is not the author's fault, I had hoped there would have been more running-specific guidance; it's really cycling heavy. All and all, there are a couple of things I'll institute and refer back to, but it isn't a game changer.

Very informative sports nutrition book. So dense with information that it reads like a textbook.

TL;DR - Women are different than men. Daily supplement with BCAAs post workout, plan training around their cycle, and focus less on carbs.

I think this is a great starter handbook that nails all the major concepts. Some could argue in specifics, but that’s for the avid athlete that probably doesn’t need to read this in full.

Some interesting stuff in here- hope to do some of it, and will probably ignore some of it. Loved the perspective though, and like that she agrees with other people I like.
