The Redemption of Callie & Kayden by Jessica Sorensen

If possible, this book is heavier than the first one. It's Callie's turn to save Kayden this time and she is now strong enough to be able to do that for him. Together they are able to let go of what has been destroying each of them. Seth continues to be an amazing friend, as does Luke. Can't wait to read his story next.

I raced through the beginning of this book because it was just too heart wrenching, but the story come together nicely. My only real gripe with the story is the author keeps pressing that it is too late for Callie to take any legal action, and in most states when a minor is raped/assaulted they have a considerable period of time after reaching the age of majority (aka turning 18) before the statute of limitations (how long after something happens you have to file a civil claim or for someone to be charged with criminal charges) begins to run against their attacker. In some states that clock doesn't begin to run until after the person has turned 18 and after they realize that the rape impacted them, meaning you could be 50 and be like oh yeah that thing that happened to me when I was 13, that was bad and get help from the police. I think this is important to note because I don't want people who are in a similar situation as Callie to think that they don't have a legal recourse against their attacker because it happened when they were a kid an a lot of time has passed. If you want to report an attack find someone who is receptive, because not everyone handles these things well, and report it.

*I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
I really really enjoyed The Redemption of Callie and Kayden. I felt like this book had an end goal it was working towards. I did love how all of the characters were incorporated in this story. I also liked how this was a little more about Kayden and how he needed to fix himself. Callie had already started trying to come to terms with what happened to her in the previous book.

Kayden broke my heart in the last book, and in this book. His parents were just so utterly selfish and cruel that I was constantly surprised by them. They made him believe that he was the one that had the issues, and that he was embarrassing them. Then his mother tries to tell him how good he had it. Umm no. She is incorrect! Being beaten every day is not “good” and his mother ends up spilling the beans about her terrible childhood. I just can’t imagine why she wouldn’t be a good mom and want to protect her kids.

I loved that Luke, Callie, and Seth made the decision to go get Kayden. I don’t think Kayden would have ever recovered if they hadn’t gotten him and went on their impromptu road trip. Kayden was struggling so much, and this book was awesome because we really got to see Callie come into her own.

She was so much stronger than anyone gave her credit for. Not only did she handle Kayden and his trauma, but she also dealt with hers. Callie also ended up telling her parents what had happened to her, by herself when the time was right. That was something that it didn’t seem she would every be capable of doing.

I really enjoyed this book, even with all of the characters who had so many issues because I felt like they wanted a better life than the one they had been living. They were willing to try and move past it. They wanted those around them to be happy and they wanted to help others as well. Seth and Luke were such a great supporting cast, they each have their own issues as well. And we haven’t really gotten into Luke’s but I’m sure we will. However with Seth we know what happened and he also went through his period in this book of having to grow.

I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars because it was a great ending to this series. Each of these characters grew so much and it’s always wonderful to see them start to come out from under that dark cloud. I would definitely recommend this series for anyone who likes New Adult.

Contains slight spoilers :)

W-O-W. After the end of The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden I went into this knowing it was going to start intense. I just didn't realize the whole book would be that intense! My heart was breaking, then happy, then tearing apart, then bursting with joy. I was all over the place. And then BOOM, it just ended. I am still trying to figure out how I feel about the abrupt ending, I still have so many more questions!

Well this one isn't much better than the first one. I found myself eye rolling and laughing. The story, the characters and the writing is just so immature. It's a decent enough book that I kept reading, but it's pretty bad.

The Redemption of Callie and Kayden is the second part of their story. You should have read the first book before reading this. **Spoilers ahead** The first book ends with Kayden beating up the guy who raped Callie, getting arrested, his father bailing him out then beating him up, stabbing him and leaving him on the floor of the kitchen. Kayden could't handle everything and cut himself more leaving Callie to find him in a pool of his own blood. Talk about a cliffhanger of an ending.

So in this book we have Kayden shutting down and trying to shut Callie out of his life. He knows he is not good enough for him. After all look at what he did. He cuts himself, he left himself for her to find the way she did. He has issues with his family, he just isn't good enough for her. The only problem? Callie wants him anyways. She has her won issues. She throws up when things get too intense and trying to deal with her rape when she was twelve. They both have a lot to deal with, but together they can get through it.

So Callie, Seth, and Luke all rally in this book to try and pull Kayden back from his hole he seems to be stuck in. They keep trying to reach out to him and help him. They are there for him in whatever way they can be. Kayden is stubborn though, but eventually it all works out.

There is also the fact that Callie has to tell her family what happened on her twelfth birthday. She has to tell them that her brothers best friend, the guy who is like a son to them, what he did to her. They keep getting angry at her for hanging out with Kayden, but she is still not ready to tell them everything. Kayden has a therapist after what happened, but can he tell them everything that has happened to him? Can Callie tell her family what she has been going through? Can they figure this all out together? It was a good read, but like the first book I didn't really connect as much as I had hoped. It was good, just not amazing.

C&K for ever♡♡♡♡♡♡

I really disliked this book. Probably to the point where I may never read anything else by Jessica Sorensen. Nothing about this was believable to me. So far fetched!

Isn't Kayden supposed to be on the football team? It's like the author just wanted him to be a hot football player/athlete, but didn't want to write that into the plot. She could have used sports as a way for him to "express his pain" (or something)- working out too hard, tackling with his head down, mouthing off to the couch, tackling too hard, playing dirty during games. But that entire plot line was ignored. I realize most of this book took place during December, but college athletics are serious. They generally expect you to work out year round.

This book draggggggggggggeeedddddd on. I felt like the same angsty scenarios played out over and over again. And then Callie and Kayden had sex. That was it- angst and sex angst and sex. It was obnoxious.

The character of Seth was HORRIBLE. He wasn't even a real person. It was like he only existed to act as Callie's therapist or conscious, or to make her do things she doesn't want to do that the author didn't know how to work into the storyline organically. He only showed up when he was needed and faded into the background when his presence was inconvenient.

I was really hoping everyone would die at the end because I started to hate every single character. Except for Luke. Only because he basically served no purpose except to have a car. So he didn't get a chance to infuriate me.

UGHHHHHHH

SpoilerSo this book was pretty good, I think I just get aggravated because they put a lot of unnecessary stress on themselves by not telling anyone... and that’s basically the entire plot. So to me, the second book was a little unnecessary. After Kayden got stabbed, they both could’ve confessed that they’ve both been abused and there, story over and happy ending. Lol 😂
I am interested in Luke’s storyline though. I’ve had my fair share of theories about him, so I’m excited to learn more!
