Another great Telgmeier graphic novel. I look forward to whatever she puts out next!

Status: Committed to Telgemeier's books #foreverinlove

Telgemeier's books are always a delight through clean, cartoonish drawing style and goofy storytelling. I find myself always comparing my reading experience to my first Telgemeier comic, Smile. Though, I was not disappointed with this companion piece to my Telgemeier favorite!

Sisters is a fun, enjoyable read with the perfect blend of humor, zany characters and story events, and cartoonish drawings. It will appeal to younger teens, as they may relate to the sibling relationship in the story. Imagine being the only child and now "blessed" with a new sibling of yours? Imagine being stuck in the car for hours and hours and hours with your siblings? Sound like fun, right?

Actually, it's interesting how Raina deals with her sister, and how much she wants to be involved in her sister's life, while her sister is more independent and develops different interests. In the end, they're still Sisters, and the conclusion of the story leaves the reader with a feeling of warmth and love.

General Thoughts: I just adore Raina Telgemeier's work! I enjoy her drawing style and her ability to structure a story clearly & naturally. She always makes me smile, laugh, and sigh. I think she has such a strong handle on the voice of younger teens. Using her deceptively simple visual and verbal storytelling, she evokes such precise emotions about the process of growing up; reading her novels, I am always reminded of my own experiences during childhood and adolescence.

Amazingly fun read. I have fallen in love with Raina Telgemeier's books!

LOVE. Again, Raina captures a time in the world precisely the way I experienced it growing up. I fell asleep last night recounting the fun, subtle details... Contempo bag, the outside of an AM/PM mini-mart, lying down in the van with your seat belt still on listening to your walkman...

Since I am a middle sister, this book sounded quite familiar: sharing rooms, arguing, fighting in the car on long road trips, snakes. Brings back old memories. I think this will sound very familiar to lots of kids, too.

Glad to read both of these books together (Smile) - the voice of the author comes through very powerfully here!

I liked Smile & Drama better, but this adds some dimension to the family, and is perfectly good enough when a young person wants to read more about the same people.

I guess I felt the characters were not fully developed - I didn't feel connected to anyone in the story at all. I have 2 sisters, and I have certainly experienced (& remember well) the bickering and just the incomprehensible agony of apparently ordinary life. I also have experienced the surreal weirdness of parents acting hostile & keeping secrets when they're about to get divorced. (...from both sides, at this point.)

I wanted the details & experiences described here to shed some light, or to show some universal connection, or to make me laugh. Instead, it just felt like going along, going along, going along...

Oh, Raina. I've been there.

Such a fun series! I always wind up laughing and can picture this time so clearly as it was my childhood era.
