It's always magnificent when it comes to neuroscience. However, brewer said everything except how to unwind anxiety.

Simple concept with a few steps and some ya ya that was also fine. There were some extra words, extra bits, for reinforcement that sent me daydreaming. I bet my brain was looking for something novel. I’m glad I took notes. My favorite parts were the section on noting and my new favorite anxiety mantra “Why doesn’t matter”. Also I am going to be reading all my boss’s emails with extra wide eyes from now on.

After reading some other reviews I think I've made the right decision to stop. The author just does a lot of reiterating of other publishings and often tells too many barely related to the topic stories. Good book to open a random page to and read a random good nugget of information. Not a easy book to read cover to cover. Especially having already read the source materials.

This was a fascinating read & I learned a lot about anxiety and how it forms. He made learning about my fear very interesting and it kept me engaged.

You’ll want to sit down and really practice what he teaches. I took the steps he laid out and created my own anxiety map— cheers to hopefully overcoming my anxiety in the future!

I’ll admit I was really excited to read this (the title did grab me), but the “new science” didn’t seem new to me (I’ve also read a lot about anxiety, CBT and mindfulness). This seemed to take existing therapies and “re-brand” them as new. The last few chapters seemed disconnected from the rest of the book (they were added later), with the name-dropping “way to go, me!” epilogue especially feeling weird and out of place. I will say that I did gather a few new, affirming nuggets of information, but it could have been more appealing written more concisely, with less repetition in half the length.

I’m just not built to read these kinds of self help books

I don't think this addressed anxiety like I wanted it. The real focus was on addiction and habit building. I understand the author is making the argument that anxiety is a form of addiction. I took a few tools away that I'll utilize but overall not exactly what I was looking for.
