5 stars, though I would rather give this 6 stars. Beautiful, heartbreaking, a must read!

This will be a short review, since I don't want to spoil the things that happen in this book (you can so easily spoil things, and that would be a shame) that pop up in this book. I really liked the surprises and sudden twists and turns.

So let's start with the characters. I liked both of the characters, though I didn't understand exactly why they needed to steal cars/motorcycles. They seem old enough (at least for American standards) to have a license to drive and to have a car. In most books I read 16-year olds will have cars and are able to drive, this book is really one of its kind that it doesn't have that and it makes it a bit off.

I am also amazed that during all that time they never got caught by the police (that one time doesn't really count).

On to the characters again, I really loved them both. They both have/had their problems, but they can both rely on each other. For most of the book you are left in the dark about quite a few things from their past, but that will all show up after a while, and I should warn you, be prepared.

The roadtrip part was fun, I really enjoyed it, though I would have loved some pictures or little souvenir pictures, like some roadtrip books do.

Now I would love to say more, but I don't want to spoil things too much. So last thing I will say is this: Read it! Love it!

I've been let down by James Patterson's most recent romance novels. I think it's because he has a co-writer and it doesn't have his same storytelling flair.

I did enjoy this one though, but I have a feeling it's trying to cash in on all the other "cancer" books out there at the moment. I kind of feel this is a poor man's "The Fault in our Stars". But I liked both the characters, they were written really well and I liked going along with them on their journey. I think I would've enjoyed it more If I hadn't read TFIOS recently.

I may have ruined it a little for myself when I started. Something I do with all my novels is look at the end of the book to see how many pages there are, and this time round it was a bad idea because there was a HUGE spoiler at the end that I could not not look at. Oh well!

At first I was hesitant with this novel. I read and loved James Patterson's Maximum Ride series, and though it does have some romance, not a whole lot. So I was nervous about reading his NA romance.

Then I started it and all worries went out the window.

I wish I had more to say, but I don't. This novel is beautiful, heart breaking, heart warming, will make you smile, laugh and then cry. It's one worth reading for sure and I love it. The ending will just tear you apart, I warn you.

A beautiful, and touching read! Please, do not let the negative reviews deter you away from picking up this novel. I picked this book up on a whim at a used bookstore, previously, I had never heard of this title and had never bothered to pick up a James Patterson book. Man, I'm certainly glad that this novel caught my eye. Lately, I had been on a thriller and mystery kick, and needed a break from the genre. I was looking for a touching story that would just touch my heart, and move me: this novel did just that!

It is impossible to explain how beautifully the book began, and all the emotions it stirred up inside of me. What a great contemporary romance novel! It is well written, the story is beautifully told. It is not often that I find myself choking back tears or crying: it's just not who I am or in my demeanor, but I had to grab the tissues on this one.

The novel is based on two friends Axi and Robinson, who decide to embark on a journey across the United States, leaving behind the small town they have come to know all too well. Do the two remain friends? Or is there something more there?

5/5 Stars: I found this novel to be touching and inspiring. It was a quick and fast-paced read. I literally could not put the book down. (I lost sleep trying to finish this book because it was just that darn good! By the way, I read the entire book in less than 24 hours!) I have never been a huge fan of contemporary romance, but this novel has broadened my horizons and opened my eyes to the genre, personally I think I may now be addicted. I did not realize until after I finished the book that this story is based on a real life experience James Patterson shared with someone near and dear to his heart. "First Love" has left an imprint on my heart, and will have a forever home on my bookshelf.

I was completely surprised by this book. I was unsure about it for the first few chapters, but then I absolutely flew through it. It’s a tale of heartbreak, first love, and of course grief. I also love that it was inspired by James Patterson’s first and possibly true love.

Okay, the first thing that I want you to do is do not compare this book to The Fault in Our Stars. Just because this book is a love story involving cancer does not mean that it copied The Fault in Our Stars or even tried to be it. Besides, A Walk to Remember came out before The Fault in Our Stars and that was a love story involving cancer. Just because an author decides to write about cancer in a love story does not mean that no author can ever write a love story involving cancer again.

That being said, I thought that this book was beautiful and heartbreaking. It was a story of first love and even though the circumstances were extreme, it did not make this book unrealistic because no one's first love story is ever the same. I loved the adventure aspect of this book and the relationship between Axi and Robinson. For most of the novel they weren't in a relationship and just best friends and it was really sweet. I highly recommend this book if you want an adventure that involves love and is a little tragic. It is a great young adult novel I would suggest for slightly younger readers, only because I remember how reading these books felt when I was a blossoming young adult and I feel that it would have hit me better had I not been in my twenties.

But that being said I thought that James Patterson did a great job and I find it amazing how good of a romance author he is even though he normally does mystery and crime. This book is worth checking out, but please also read Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas by Patterson. It is a tragic romance novel as well and still haunts me.
