Abbie is probably my favorite character of all time. I love her thoughts, her perfume making and her love for the mysterious. I love her snickerdoodle recipe, and I had to go buy her perfumes on the author's website......which was so long ago I can't even remember. I can reread this series and always find some new magical aspect I didn't think about the first time!

I loved the connection with 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' and I thought that the books was an interesting read but I did fing myself getting a little bored at times and the characters annoyed me slightly at certain parts. I did, however, love the ending. I think the last couple of chapters totally made the book worth reading and I will be picking up the sequel.

And I'm done.

Drivel.

I was mildly interested.
There was a mystery of how her friend died and the second diary, cool - following along.
Guy who keeps being off/on - fine. (BTW authors, a wishy-washy guy isn't mysterious. It's annoying. Mysterious isn't a disappearing act.)
Major plot threads/red herrings where it started to get interesting but the plot didn't follow - ok sure, there's a couple other books. Maybe they'll be addressed there.
Weird random characters that are set in their personalities but change based on whatever the author needs them to be - ok, starting to lose me here...

Reading ahead to hear that the main character kills herself over a guy? Uh, not even Twilight does that. :/ (really losing me here. Staying in it to finish since I'm 80%...)

but...

You lost me over the supposedly second leg of the psudo love triangle the author was setting up - Ben Bennett? Really? Benjamin Bennett. As a creator of worlds, the god of all ye shall write and you can't come up with a better bloody name?

Bye.

I really, really wanted to love this book... but I just didn't. I liked it, don't get me wrong, but this isn't necessarily a book that I would gush about to a friend or fellow bibliophile.

Abbey seems realistic enough and I liked Ben and even Caspian, when he wasn't being wishy-washy, but the story seemed to have gotten bogged down in the minutiae. Details are wonderful when they move a story along, though not so much when it seems to stall a story in the middle of the novel.

I had a feeling that Katy and Nikolas were not who they seemed to be and I had a feeling Caspian wasn't as well, but I expected him to be the ghost of a young Mr. Irving and not who/what he ended up being. I also didn't expect that the resolution of Kristen's death would be dropped in the end since it seemed such an integral part of the story.

I just felt as if there was all this build up with Kristen's diaries, Caspian and the issues surrounding their relationship, Katy and Nikolas appearing out of nowhere, and the budding friendship with Ben that sort of fell flat in the end.

And though this isn't a stellar review, I will likely read book two just to figure out book one.

DO NOT BELIEVE THE BLURB.

This is how not to write plots unless you want gaping holes.

When The Hollow was first released I rushed out to but it. When I read some of the terrible reviews for it, I decided to wait. Now I’m glad I did only because I don’t have to wait for the sequel to be released.

Abigail (Abbey) Browning refuses to believe that her best friend is dead. She and Kristen spent all their time at the river. There’s no way Kristen would fall in and drown. Abbey knows something else must be up. Unfortunately Abbey is distracted before she can uncover the mystery of Kristen’s disappearance. This distraction comes in the form of a very cute boy with some secrets of his own. Caspian is hiding something but does it have anything to do with Kristen or is it something entirely different?

I loved The Hollow but that doesn’t mean that I don’t have my complaints. My main problem was the length. I love big books but this one seemed to include a lot of unnecessary information. I also felt that all that info led up to an unsatisfying climax. I’m reading the second book right now to see where everything is going because the ending of the first left me wanting more, and not in a good way.

While I did have my complaints, I found myself enjoying the book. I loved reading about Sleepy Hollow and the characters were pretty great. Abbey was a bit emotional but what teenage girl isn’t? Caspian was confusing which led to the emotions but I finally understood at the end and it was quite a surprise. =]

Overall, The Hollow is, in my opinion, a great book. I enjoyed the characters, the setting, and especially the story. I can’t wait to see where Jessica Verday takes the story in the next book.

It was really slow to begin with, but you always get the sense something bigger is going on. I trudged through this book. It made me cry, made me laugh and made me angry. The story line is unfinished in the first book, there definitely should be a sequel to finish some business she left behind in the first book.

Over all it was a captivating novel that caused various emotions to surge through me. I would recommend this for those with patience, those that like legends and those that like the supernatural. It doesn't give much of the supernatural truths until the end, but they are there.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I for some reason did not see the ending coming looking back I'm not sure how I missed it. I wish there was more to this story it did seem like it could have more in the way of a plot. But maybe I'm just too used to over-the-top obstacles. This is YA in the truest form and you can tell it was written for the teenage audience whereas some YA is more in-depth. Overall I enjoyed the story and will be finishing the trilogy.
