Meh. I downloaded this from Hoopla on a whim, looking for a sexy distraction. Instead I kept getting distracted by my annoyance with how rushed and unbelievable the romance felt.

And while I'm not sure I'm qualified to comment on the ADHD rep, I didn't care for how finding the right Dom was presented as the best way to manage the MC's ADHD.

I am unsure if it is the books or the writing style, but I have difficulty connecting with this author's characters. With the exception of Law, Paolo & Styx, the MCs never fully draw me into their plights.

In this book Tackett Austin is going through a sexual mid-life crisis. He sees his friends settling down and begins yearning for that kind of joy and permanence. As he celebrates his birthday, the flirtatious bartender Micah Slayde makes it very obvious that Tackett is a Dom he would like to submit to. But Tackett isn't looking for a plaything, so now Micah has to prove to Tackett that Micah truly wants to be his boy.

Again, the story was okay. Micah truly was a scatterbrain. No wonder none of his prior doms would collar him. I am glad Tackett was patient and also took time to learn how Micah ticks. It was intense but a satisfying journey for both.

I will read book 2 because I already bought it, but I would like to try another series to see if it's the author's writing style that leaves me wanting a little more depth.

I quite liked this but as I didn't get any great affinity for either character, it read more like a manual for me. In BDSM books I like to get into the headspace of the sub, seeing things from their point of view. I didn't get that with Micah.
I think it was because his ADHD distracted me - not for him having it but me thinking about how he could possibly control something so innate to be the sub Thacket required. And how unfair it seemed to be punished for it. I enjoyed him as the cheeky, back-talking guy at the start, he seemed like a nice guy but we saw less of this and its emergence seemed punished - I wanted more of that Micah!
Thacket confused me - I enjoyed his softer side. But again, I didn't feel anything for him.
The story was easy to read, some emotional bits, was well paced and flowed nicely along and certainly I had no trouble staying with it.

This is one of those stories with beautiful, complex characters that truly come to life on the pages from the beginning. Micah is on the surface a bratty and cheeky sub who seems to have fixated on Tackett, an older Dom, who has never had a full-time sub and isn't looking for one either.

Micah is a beautiful character, who underneath the cocky exterior hides a conviction that he is somehow defective. He is a sufferer of ADHD and calls his brain "broken". I must admit that, while I'm not a fan of using BDSM to fix defects, this wasn't so much about fixing, as it was about giving coping mechanisms.

The reason I'm not rating this higher is because I found the timeline a little unrealistic. It seemed that all the issues and Micah's limits were overcome in two weeks. That to me, no matter how good the chemistry or connection is, is just not completely believable. So, unfortunately that took a little way from the story for me.

But overlooking that, it's a great story with very dreamy, sexy characters, steamy hot smexing...what more do you want?

I am at a loss - do I rate this book or not?

Truth be told, it was the cover that compelled me to buy this book. Absolutely gorgeous! But...

See, I don't really "get" BDSM. I have read some stories that have worked for me, more so because of the relationships depicted than the lifestyle aspects. I've loved the intimacy within those relationships; not necessarily the sexual aspects but more the emotional intimacy. And therein lies my dilemma. This book was well written and, from reading friends' reviews, hot and sexy in the Dom/sub interaction. But I didn't feel any real, emotional connection between the MCs.

This one didn't work for me much. While Tackett complains that he doesn't want a sub that isn't 100% into the lifestyle and know what they want, it was pretty clear he didn't know what he wanted and wasn't willing to commit to Micah. While Micah was the sub he had to be assertive about what he wanted and trying to get Tackett to be committed. I didn't care for how Micha's ADHD was handled either.

I finished reading this and needed some time before I could come back and write my review.
There were quite a few parts where I had to pause and stare at the ceiling to process what was going on. Some of what was going on hit a little too close to home and I had to take mental notes. Thank you for the insights you have given me to myself. Things are not crystal clear but you have given me a new perspective. I now have to read the rest of these stories.
I base my reviews on what touches me and this one touched me deeply. I don't claim to know a great deal about writing or about the world of D/s I know that some of the reviewers are very particular about those things. When a book touches your heart, your soul, your psyche it changes you in some way and you are never the same. That to me defines a great book. I will be telling people that Pup is a Great book and I will be recommending it to many.
