The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet

"The Kind Diet" is a spirited book on the benefits of organic/whole/vegan foods and a lifestyle around said foods. I enjoyed the premise but found it lacking in execution. That said, the author's celebrity status has been success in introducing many of my peers to a healthier life and so for that I am greatful.
Never seriously considered veganism, but I could cut down on a few things. Will try eating more brown rice, sweet potatoes & beans. Will chew more before swallowing. Will attempt to add miso soup, mochi & green tea to my diet. Will try to cut down on cheese intake. Am going to ignore the advice to go light on herbs and spices; no fun!
Recipes to try: Mochi waffles, Toasted Nori Burritos, Crispy Tofu Slices with Orange Dipping Sauce

In my continuing quest and interest in veganism ... this one is pretty good. Lots of good basic advice and some interesting info about what different foods do to the body and how the body in turn reacts. That said, I'm still looking for a vegan guide that doesn't rely so much on soy foods and "fake" meat. Is that even possible??
Awesome book. Great information and amazing recipes.
I became a veg after reading this book. What more can I say?
Loved Alicia's approach to living a healthy lifestyle. I don't necessarily agree that going vegan/macrobiotic is for everyone - but I do think that reducing dairy/animal-based/processed food consumption is a great lifestyle change that anyone can make. In addition to great information, Alicia shares some of her favorite recipes. I haven't had time to try any of them yet, but I'm looking forward to experimenting with them soon!
I definitely like this book a lot as a positive, not-mean alternative to the evil Skinny Bitch books (I hate those so much I hide them whenever I go to a bookstore and see them in the vegan section), to mass market veganism to people who just want to lose weight. It definitely had some delicious sounding recipes (if only it wasn't a 14-day book from the library and I could try them), that generally weren't full of processed vegan foods like the SB recipes I've seen, so I actually bought her claims of health. This book's encouraging and non-restrictive tone did made me want to be a healthier vegan (because being told that I should never do something just makes me want to do it). It did annoy me when Silverstone kept calling foods "nasty," "naughty," and "sexy" (+the occasional silly gender stuff and mentions of God in a "spiritual-not-religious" way), though it was also to be expected with this kind of book and at least it didn't make me feel like shit like the SB books would. Also, not having read many celebrity books, it bothered me that Silverstone's "collaborator", Jessica Porter, seemed to only be mentioned in the acknowledgements, but maybe that's par for the course in this type of book?
Finally, this was really well designed and the photographs are lovely--I would definitely buy it if there was a really good sale/I found it used (plus I want to try the recipes!).

This book was overall very informative and helpful regarding the vegan/plant-based lifestyle. She gives some practical advice and writes in a way that is easy to relate to.
Overall, the book is ok. I like her passion to help save our planet. What goes on with our meat, poultry, fish industry is absolutely appalling. If anything, Alicia is bringing awareness to the reader. Most of her recipes are simple and tasty. I purchased this book because I am a fan of her blog/website. My hope for readers who are new (like me) to the vegan worlds (and there are many) that this is but a catalyst to read more books that dive deeper into the issues.
